Taylor always struggles after his first inning. They wont get much for him.

Taylor has a career FIP of 1.27 at 13.33 k/9. He's worth more than pretty much any reliever in baseball on the trade market.

lol I fell asleep expecting a call off

I did the same! I woke up and was like why the f*** did my ESPN score alert go off.

If the Sox won both of the 10 inning losses preceding this game to sweep the Nats they would have a 5 game winning streak and there would be a different vibe among fans right now. Just have to stop blowing late leads and losing close games. So it was great to watch a 7 run 7th, the Angels bullpen implode, and of course,Yoan Moncada suck it in the clutch.

Indeed...that 7th inning looked like fun.

I said the same last year. He hasn't been great when he has to sit down and get up either.

I like Taylor a lot, but I'm not a fan at all of what the Sox are doing to develop him and think he's being broken by using him as a reliever for this long. I'd move him while his peripherals are ungodly and call it a day.

"What do you know about development, Pal?"

conversely lose to Soriano

12-18 winning 2/5=40%

64.8-97.4

You really love win pace early in the season even though it jumps wildly from game to game.

His name is pronounced the way he says it should be. I always liked coming up to Polish kids at work and saying their name correctly. One lady looked up and told me, "I haven't heard my name said that way since my grandmother as alive".

I always liked it on Barney Miller when People mangled Wojo's last name :)

I never thought in my wildest dreams Vargas could play this well. I take back all the rotten things

I've said about him.

Yeah, Kay better synch it pretty soon. Davitt, Sandlin, Shane Smith, Hagen Smith, and Tanner McDougal are all jockeying. I have a feeling next one up is going to settle like Noah Schultz. He could quickly be a LOOGY.

LOOGY's really don't exist anymore

With the three batter minimum, they have to be deployed differently than the used to, at the very least.

Shocked they won. Fell asleep right before the big inning. Good win.

Someone already said this but I have to agree. Vargas’s hustle in backing up Antonacci’s missed dive probably saved the game from going into extra innings.

Very few 3rd basemen would have had the awareness and athletic ability to get there so quickly. An outstanding play.

Stoney talks all the time about his high baseball IQ. People who want to dismiss his importance to this team don’t understand baseball.

watching the replay of the game, Grant Taylor gets lit up more often than you would think based on his stuff

you can use them traditionally, just has to be as an opener. of course you really only get this opportunity if their lineup starts out LHH heavy like the nationals

And based on his stats, although is so-so WHIP gives a clue.

But some of last night was well placed fly-balls that fell in.

Agreed, but he also seemed to have a hard time throwing his fastball past anyone. Can’t be giving up two strike hits then on your breaking balls to Grissom.

Pretty good but allows too much hard contact for his stuff.

About 80% of this has been bad luck, and about 20% has been Taylor being way to in-the-zone with two strikes (especially ahead in the count). He's got to get that fastball higher in the zone with two strikes and stop living middle-up.

I don't think Grant Taylor is going to be running a 400 BABIP against in his career. That paired with a 13.33 k/9 rate is bordering on absurdity.

Everything from the stats profile and just watching suggests he grooves too many fastballs, maybe as he tires in the 2nd innings. Should be something that can get corrected.

@DoUEvenShift game thread please. i want to b**** about the lineup.
