He’s a Sox developmental player…you should know by now not to expect a fundamentally sound player

I incorrectly assumed his Japanese heritage would overcome that though

The problem is that it isn't that the ump is awful, it's that they have to be drug out as the "female" ump. Talk about her skill all you like, but dragging out her gender with it is crap. No one ca

  • Great outing from Burke.

I hope somebody asks whether Nishida was explicitly told to bunt with 2 strikes or if that was on his own

Bunting with two strikes was giving an out away and not moving the runner either. I think that play cost us the game as we needed to score B10. Shame.

Watching on Gameday...did Colson swing at a pitch that looked like it was gonna hit him??

He seems to be missing a lot of pitches that are all over the place

Bunting is stupid

Particularly with 2 strikes.

Pitcher has one of the sweepiest sweepers in MLB so it likely looked a lot like a strike if you didn't pick up the spin

He was better tonight, but he was taking some huge swings in that at bat when he wasn’t even the tying run

On one hand, they should have won that game three times over:

  • Botched calls by the crew

  • Riku botched bunt followed by Sam’s hit

  • Mune pulling the ball instead of lifting it

On the other hand, they had no business even tying the game.

To be fair, we ended up in a very similar situation thanks to the infield single from Antonacci. But obviously that same contact from Antonacci would have ended the game if the runner was already on third. Can't necessarily assume everything would have been the same if the bunt was successful of course

His form was awful. Tried being too tricky with it.

Came to this game late so missed it. Generally, contact hitters who can't bunt tick me off. But was it a 2 strike bunt? Ouch, Venable.

You are surprised that a callup from AAA is not as good as most of the major leaguers? Isn't that exactly what you would expect from players?

And now we're mad that she made what appeared to be a correct call at first base because New York reviewed it and called it wrong?

Yeah, Billy Smith, the 1B ump, would get no extra commentary on the reversal. The only reason anybody knows to tie it to her is she's a woman.

We lost the game before any of that happened when Will decided to have Rikuu “attempt” to bunt with two strikes.

Teel's inability to stay healthy has fucked this team so badly it's shocking tbh

She’s proven herself to be awful. There’s nothing merit-based about a person coming up to the majors, be it in St or reg season, and consistently blowing calls. She missed an obvious check swing tonight, too….wasn’t even close.

She/he/they/ are fucking awful at their job, man. The Twins were out of challenges. The crew chief thought another look was warranted. How often do we see that happen?

This was just as bad watching live. I hope it was a total mistake pitch and not called by anyone.

Weird to say the team is "fucked" when they are currently outperforming preseason expectations

Im lost as to why we bunt with two strikes with a lefty contact hitter.

Also mind boggling

you know it was Quero's dumb ass that called for it, Romo would've been just as bad because they're both fucking terrible

I remember when people used to make excuses for Madrigal’s early base running blunders as well

Even after watching the replay I couldnt tell the ball bounced. Maybe after seeing it again Ill be able to tell. He wasn't going anywhere either way. Did look like he went back to 1st which is the right move if you think it was caught in the air. Shouldve just stayed there.

Agreed, it’s fun to be pissed about a loss again…but I think we’re all skeptical about this team’s staying power

I don't have a crystal ball but Teel to me is heads and shoulders above Quero and Romo defensively, both those guys have been a total nightmare behind the plate in just about every facet of the game. Romo hitting bombs has been the only value he's had

Borat would say it’s harder for them due to their smaller brain

Throwing the splitter made sense to me you just can't throw it in the strike zone. You're trying to end the at bat with a strikeout and he's fouling off your best strikeout pitch. You see if he'll chase the splitter in the dirt and if he doesn't, you hope you've opened up the high heater for a whiff on the next pitch. He just left it over the plate. I expected him to throw a backfoot slider instead. I just hope he missed it due to honest to goodness bad release rather than not trusting his catcher to block it.
