I like that the Sox presently have a good mixture of drafting, developing, and scouting other teams cast offs. Peters, Grichuk, Periara, Perez, Rock, S Smith, and Romo come to mind.

I am a prospect hugger, but I know the smart play is keep drafting and developing at a high level and move some prospects for established players.

For what it's worth I would be fine moving Carlson if his value was higher. There is a glut of middle infielders, and there will be another when they select Emerson or Roch in two weeks. I would absolutely trade him for some pitching but he didn't come out the gate hot and then he broke his thumb. I'd rather not sell low.

Jerry is 90. He doesn't have much time left realistically. In a year where the Sox could make the playoffs and attendance is up, I really don't think he will thinking "I need to keep payroll low with a potential upcoming lockout". He's going to want to go for it once more while he's alive.

Maybe...and he may also be thinking 'I want to continue to leave as much money possible for my family because I am 90 and won't be around forever...'

I hope your version is right but again this is JR so who knows?

His family owns the freaking Bulls and White Sox. They'll be fine. I still think he'll want Getz to go for it this season. It could be his last chance at a chip.

Yeah, the notion that a freakin' billionaire is nervous that he's going to leave enough money for his offspring is ridiculous. He just wants to pile that money as high as he can. He's addicted, as all billionaires are.

Ideally, that’s what they say.  But the Sox haven’t shown the ability to consistently draft and develop in the upper quartile:  and consistently behind the Twins, Tigers and Guardians.   And is it really true anyway?  Everyone was beating on the Orioles for not cashing in some prospects for veteran pitching.  Well they finally did (Rogers, Baz, Burnes) – and they got decidedly worse.  There are other things you can do with “excess” prospects:  like trade for someone else’s excess in pitching prospects.

And for the Sox,  young-for-old trades have been singularly non-productive.  I think pretty much 100% of June/July trades have been, at best, non-productive with several absolute disasters.  The only exceptions are the Blum in 2005 (a minor trade for a utility IF) and the Contreras/Loiza flip in 2004 (not a young-for-old trade).

You really don't think JR would add during a season where they are playoff contenders? Especially with his age? He's spent plenty of times when the team was competitive. He absolutely loves his White Sox. I 100% think he'd want to take one more chance while he is still alive.

Bad memories linger from that one Britt Burns pitch that ended the season for the great '83 White Sox. That ending only makes me realize how hard it is to even get to that point. We keep asking ourselves as White Sox fans, "are they really this good?" And this team continues to answer that in the affirmative. This team has what it takes to go for it...all of it. I didn't say he wouldn't add. I think he'll allow some additions but Getz isnt going for the throat here . He'll see what he can get at reasonable rates. But I don't think JR changes the way thinks just because he's near the end now. Bottom line is bottom line with him. Leaving his kids as debt free as possible when they sell the Sox so its mostly profit means a lot to him.

Maybe if Sonny Gray is a salary dump they take a shot but then anything else is going to have to be prospects for a couple relief arms along the lines of Garrett Whitlock but not like Chapman.

I actually hope the Rangers decide to sell but after the series with Cleveland they can start losing. They have a relief pitcher named Jacob Latz (from Lemont) who might make the All Star team and had a 2 inning save tonight vs. Cleveland so has 17 save and 2 blown saves and a great ERA and WHIP. Sox always look for the local guys to come home. He could be their biggest addition for th BP and people might be saying "Who" ?
