Come on Mike, what about a Cease homecoming? Think big

I just don’t see them taking on that contract. But with Ishbia in the fold, you never know.

We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trad

Trevor Bauer is an awful clubhouse fit even if you believe him innocent of any criminal wrongdoing. I also don’t understand why anyone would think a 35 year old pitching in the Nippon League or where

Gonzo can go back down to Charlotte and stop his arb clock once Mune is back. That's fine. He just got a nice pay pump for 6 weeks or whatever and now he knows he close he is and what he has to contin

As with every team in the MLB.

You only have Mune for 1.5 more years. You can’t assume anymore than that. It would be great if 100% of our players were home grown but it wouldn’t hurt to trade some and bring in somebody.

You need at least one more SP, assuming Schultz keeps his spot. You have Shane Smith, Adams, Thorpe, McDougal, Sandlin. Trade two of those for a known commodity.

I agree. But there are at least two reasons to make an in season, deadline trade. The short term, let's try to win this year and the long term let's add prospects.

Buyers at the deadline tend to be looking for short term, win now, and are willing to give up prospects.

Sellers are generally looking to off load short term contracts and pick up prospects.

This season I would rather not pick up players with one or two years left on their contracts in exchange for players that are still developing. That's what mid and bottom tier franchises go for.

Trying to win a division or make the playoffs is nice, but truly having a chance at a "multiple championship window" is what top organizations look for.

Seen several posts like this today, feel like it’s odd that Fegan would mention Detmers specifically. Usually the Sox try to keep quiet about these things.

“Like Detmers” doesn’t necessarily mean they are trying for Detmers

Man… if we could get Cease and his love affair with his slider back in town, that would be a flipping dream come true for this club.

Too bad it’s never gonna happen.

Just for shits and giggles, say Toronto comes to you with an offer of “Bonemer, Hagen Smith, and Fauske for Cease” — Do you bite?

I sure as s%*# would, especially after we just had the draft we had.

For someone like Detmers, I wouldn’t want to exceed a package of something like Carlson plus Oppor… and that is only because we just drafted Thome and Prosek.

Until it actually happens, I don't believe in any way the Sox are going to trade for a $200 million contract or sign someone to one.

I mean its fun to kick around, but Dylan Cease was traded because they had no intentions to pay him. Same reason Crochet was traded. They aren't going to turn around and take on that contract.

Same reason why I think its foolish to let Mune reach free agency, they will lose him if that happens.

I’d say the likelihood of bringing Cease back with him having about 190 million left is less than 1% 😆

But if they were to take on a deal it would be under this type of scenario, he checks all the boxes:

  • Former Sox player

  • Large amount of deferred money that is likely to not be an available contract structure soon

  • Ace level talent and track record

Still… you’re absolutely right. Until Jerry turns the team over, I too will believe them signing a pitcher for more than 4 years at a 9 figure rate when I see it.

And I’m not holding my breath. I just miss dudes sweet slider slide. 😆

I'm pretty disinterested in Detmers for what his cost is likely to be. One season of 100+ IP with < 4 ERA in his career, so the upside is limited. And for folks who are worried about Martin's recent fatigue signaling regression, well...

detmers.jpg

Career 4.69 ERA, 4.39 on the season, 4.55 in his last 10 starts, but because he's 27 with two arb years left (and had 3 great starts in June) I've seen packages like Schultz/Hagen + Carlson + Bergolla thrown out there for him. That's an enthusiastic no from me.

If the guardians trade for him you know what will happen

He'll bring injuries and bad luck to the Guardians like he did to the Mets and Sox !!! Yes trade him to the Guardians !!
