Colson Montgomery at Short and I dont care about any of the other positions.

Put meidroth at 1b. I dont care.

What a fucking joke of a response. Can’t even attempt to think through the big picture and just assumes whatever pads Colson’s fWAR is best for the team.

Teel going 5 for 6 yesterday gets me pumped. Add in Mune doing on the field exercises and we are about 2 weeks from having a whole team again. Just tread water and win/split series until they get them

They weren’t late inning defensive changes. They were offensive changes that are now on defense. You can debate whether the pinch hitting was actually beneficial, but they were playing for runs there

Another thing to note - Romo killed two innings with RISP. Ouch. Teel we need ya.

I don't really care about Colson getting innings at 3B. I want the players aligned in whatever way makes the team defense the best. Meidroth is good at SS but I suspect his arm might limit him a bit as a 3B, so the team may well be better defensively with him at SS and Colson at 3B than the other way around. And I think Antonacci's infield D is best hidden at 2B so you're kinda stuck with him there, IMO. Not to mention that you now have the advantage that Colson is getting increasingly experienced at 3B so it's not exactly playing a guy out of position. I don't remotely think it puts him at injury risk or anything like that. That being said, I recall James Fegan saying that a reasonable assumption is that the White Sox's internal evaluation of Colson's defense at SS is probably a shade less optimistic than the couple public metrics that have him at a top-top level.

Wow, a reasonable, well thought-out post on the matter. And to your point, even public defensive metrics are split on Colson with OAA believing he is one of the best SS’s and DRS having him negative on the year. Maybe there is a bit more nuance to it than the loudest poster on this site would have you believe.

Just too many easy outs right now. It’s amazing they’ve done as well as they have the last month.

Yes!!! 100% true. It’s a free 12 or 13 non-competitive outs of the 27 outs an opponent needs.

The problem is, you do this in scenarios where you try to give your bench infielder a platoon advantage with the bat and play him where he is strongest. The guy sucks against both lefties and righties.

Vargas' 3 pitch K with 2 on in the 5th was also a killer.

Montero shut them down at home a couple weeks ago, so it doesn't get easier tomorrow.

God, this week has been such a massive buzzkill after the Braves and Dodgers series.

Carrying multiple bench Outfielders and your only bench infielder being Acuna is leading to this problem. Look, you’ve already won the trade. You didn’t pay Robert his buyout, he’s already hurt and going to contribute nothing on his new team. You don’t need to save face. Cut Acuna.

They hopefully will when Murakami comes back.

I just switched over to my lucky blue Father's Day Sox cap....all will be well now.

I'd expect Gonzo to be the move for Murakami, as he needs more seasoning and there won't be LH at bats available at 1B anymore. He's also 0 for his last 20 facing primarily favorable platoon matchups, while Acuna is 9 for his last 21.

I really think people misdiagnose both the roster reasons why Acuna survives and the player archetype it would take to displace him if that's what you want.

What is the archetype? Fast and defensively versatile? That’s great if he can actually hit some…just not confident his last 20 PA’s are all that predictive. I obviously hope he proves me wrong.

Here’s my complaint for the day: I’m fine with the Sox announcing team, whoever it is: Schriffen, Stone, Plesac, Gordon, whoever. I think complaining about who’s calling the game is silly. They’re all the same to me.

But . . . I hate it when the offense is terrible and in a prolonged slump, like now; and the announcers try to gaslight us and try to make us viewers believe that each and every pitcher throwing for the opposing team is pitching like Cy Young today.

It’s total and obvious gaslighting. It’s not that the Sox bats have been and continue to be terrible. They want us to believe that every pitcher for the other team really has their best stuff today and there’s nothing the White Sox hitters can do.

It’s such an obvious lie, total gaslighting. It happened during the game today and they kept it up in the post game show.

I had some real concerns about this series. Human nature being what it is when you went through what the team did the past two weeks there's going to be a let down even if it is subconscious.

Hopefully they can salvage a game tomorrow with Cleveland coming in.

Shoddy effing team and a joke of a contender. Cut the krap.

The division they are in helps the 'contending' possibility but there's no question they have a lot of holes.

One thing that has been forgotten is the loss of Austin Hays, not a devastating loss but enough to make a difference, guy is a proven major leaguer, good defensively and with some pop. If Hays was out in RF playing everyday they could have given B. Monty more time at AAA.

Awful series so far at the plate. The kids came up and provided a boost but between Romo/Quero, Gonzo and Braden they have been rally killers the last two series.

I think they are exhausted. No games off is a real issue

We've had two off days in the last two weeks and guys are being rotated pretty well. I don't buy fatique. I buy guys regressing sure.

they are due for a losing streak

still not a fan of the opener, I hate it more than bunting

From the Sun-Times game recap story:

Rotation vacancy

The Sox hope to have more options on their next turn through the rotation to fill the spot that required a bullpen day.

Lefty Noah Schultz is scheduled for a rehab start Sunday at Triple-A Charlotte, but he might need one more before being recalled. David Sandlin, who pitched in three games in his first major-league stint this season, is ramping up at Charlotte and was set to pitch Saturday night. Mason Adams, who rocketed up to Charlotte this season, is another option.

“It’s continuing to build right now,” Venable said of those options. “Those guys are still building back, and we decided to have those guys be options down the road. There was a time this year where it felt like there were maybe four guys down there that could be options for you. So it’s always moving at different spots through different times of the year.”

For whatever reason, the tigers are always a bogey team for us. Especially in Detroit. Even when they suck. I don't get it

Pound the Tigers on Sunday and come back home with, hopefully, Teel coming up to catch soon. Terrible pitching yesterday (Eisert) and today (Rock). Sox could never get momentum going. Detroit is playing with urgency to prevent a lost season, and the Sox are coasting right now. Maybe a motivational clubhouse talk before tomorrow's game should be in order. Venable doesn't seem to have the pizz and vinegar flowing in his veins to do that, but I don't know, maybe he does...or invite Ozzie down there for a little guest appearance. Let's go. Now.

Not sure why Acuna would be cut instead of Jacob Gonzalez when Mune comes back...although I have no issue with cutting Acuna if/when another infielder comes up. I guess I have not seen enough of Jacob Gonzalez at any position other than 1st base. Just from seeing him at a few games and on TV. he looks like a big dude that handles 1B pretty well, but maybe , I am guessing, doesn't have the quickness and range that Acuna has to play SS or 2B. JMHO..

The guy on MLB TV that angered a few of us for not buying the White Sox because of run differential, and ERA was reasonable.
