White Sox @ Guardians 5:40 PM: Martin vs Cecconi

Featured Replies

I have mixed emotions about Colson Montgomery. His home runs are nice but it seems like he can't drive in many runs unless he hits a home run. I read where he said he's not worried about his batting average being low. It seems to me he's trying to hit a home run every time he comes up to hit.

WTF. Did you see their June schedule by chance?

  • I know Dominguez didn't pitch today or yesterday, but damn that is an epic fail to sign a guy to be your closer and he isn't used at any point in a pretty important game. Just damn.

Barely and tougher than the rest of the year, its marginal

June had them playing 4 of the top 7 teams in baseball without their team leader in OPS, there's not really a comparable stretch remaining in the year. The common take at the start of the month was that being within a couple games of .500 by July was a fine target.

What the f*** is happening.

Well, my point, as clearly stated in my first post, is they’ve been fine. And if you want to use your sample size, which is less recent than my sample size, and the whole point of this is RECENT play, but whatever I will oblige, .500 ball over a month of play in a 162 season is still FINE. Yankees have lost 7 in a row. Guess what they will be when the season is over? Guess which word?

My guess is they'll be in the playoffs with 90 or so wins in part because they'll do whatever they have to do and take on whatever salary they have to do at the deadline to correct their issues.

Think Newcomb screwed them today.

Yeah he probably gets the 7th if he didn't pitch so poorly in the 6th. But he's been one of our best relievers this year, so it is what it is.

Taylor has got to do better than this. These implosions happen way too often.

Eisert has no business pitching in the late innings.
Newcomb was terrible too, but he's usually good.

Anyway, team's not a finished product - no surprise.

I can make a safe guess that the Yankees will be far ahead of the Sox when the season is over, yes.

My point was that all teams go through rough stretches and go through periods during the season where they don’t play great ball. The Yankees will be fine at the end of it. The Sox recent has been fine. Sure they’ve lost a few tough ones and there are obvious holes that need to be filled, but they aren’t spiraling.

Wondering the same. You jumped down my throat for saying the havent been playing great. Take a big chill pill

Sox have the 3rd easiest schedule in the AL for the rest of the year

You’re the one who got weirdly aggressive for not understanding they had a very hard June schedule without their best offensive player.

Sorry you’ve been disappointed in whatever the Sox have been doing this year. Hope they do better for your sake.

If you think they're playing great, you shouldnt be so worried with convincing me. Have a great evening

There's no world in which this Sox team is going to be much better than .500 and if they pull that off it's amazing. Don't be shocked if you find many stretches of play in which they are slightly under or over .500. And don't be surprised if they continue to play games that look something like a coin flip against this Guardians team that is about .500 or so at a true talent level.

Sox are 45-41 over their last 84. 🤪

Doesn't see that easy to me. Still have series with Yankees and Tampa. Still have to play the entire NL Central except Brewers). Don't have to play Dodgers, Phillies or Braves, but neither do Guardians (who also finished with NY and Brewers).

Anyway, could be a good thing for these guys to experience a game like this right now if they can learn from it.

Today sucked, but the next 9 games before the ASB are still a big opportunity if they take advantage.

Plan and simple they need to go get pen arms that have better experience with late innings and closing. Grant is one of your better arms but hasn't been well for the last week to month. They only have a couple decent arms and when they dont go well its game over.

Yep, this is the most unpredictable Sox team I think of my lifetime. They could go on to win the AL Central or win 33 pct of their remaining games, and I don’t think either would be truly shocking. I trust the offense, but the pitching seems to be a weak spot going forward.

Because of the pitching shortcomings it is hard to see them have a stretch where they can win say seven in a row or 12 of 14.

The pitching just doesn't seem to be good enough to allow them to do that.

It's going to be fine. Every team has these types of games. I think they put a stat on the screen that said the White Sox had either the 2nd or 3rd best record in one-run games.

We have walked off, I believe, 7 games this year. Sometimes it happens in reverse.

Let's see how the team responds and go from there.

The Guardians' starting pitching is just so much better...bullpen as well, and they'll get Ramirez-Martinez back to cancel out Murakami's return.

Cleveland also has a lot more milb trade capital they're potentially willing to part with as well.

Finally, have always done better in Latin America.

Fair point which makes Friday's game a little more important in my opinion.

Sox are 7-9 in their last 16 games.

You literally do nothing but come up with ways to s%*# on this team. I don’t like telling people how to fan, but I have no idea why you follow this team when all you constantly do is look for the negative in a surprising, amazingly fun season.

Davis Martin was awful leaving way too many innings for the pen to cover in the first game of a four game series.

Taylor's final pitch was predictable - Roccio was all over it.

That was a rough one my friends...

What a ridiculously stupid hard flex. Going .500 when you played five of the best teams in baseball is fucking phenomenal. I get you’re scarred from being a Sox fan post 2005, but let’s try to have an ounce of objectivity here.
