They already used Taylor as a pinch runner, so they would have been stuck with Happ vs. a lefty. Will could have taken Hicks out since he had already faced 3 batters after the walk to Bregman.

I'd rather beat the Cubs than some other NL opponent, but if you told me the Sox were guaranteed to split this 6 game road trip then I'm taking the 3 against the Tigers every time and not thinking twice about it.

The Cubs effectively cease to exist to me after Wednesday unless I need them to beat an AL team to help our playoff odds.

I've done some reflection on my hatred of the Cubs because a lot of normal people don't get it. What I've realized is I hate their fans specifically, lol. This is not something that makes more sense to normal people who have never been around there.

I don't really have to deal with Cubs fans since I don't live in Chicago anymore. But yeah, Cubs fans basically made me hate the Cubs.

I should note that I probably hate the Packers and their fans more. BUT in that case the Packers fans I've known are the people who live their whole lives in Illinois and decided to like the Packers. But my biggest ire is reserved for the Cubs-Packers fans, of which there are many in the downstate where I grew up. I see fandom of both teams as fundamentally anti-Chicago

This gaff from Will is in a category all by itself. If this was a meaningless game then it’s minimally possible that those you mentioned maybe in a drunken stupor but never in a game of this importance not only because the Sox are vying for a division title but also because of who we are playing.

It's very annoying for the shithead PCA to walk you off but it's not really any different than any of the other ways you could lose. You're trying to figure out how can I make my 15-20% chance to keep them from scoring go to 30% or 40%.

Respectfully agree to disagree with Will and you. PCA is the best player in MLB who were scorching the ball tonight. You don’t let him beat you. You don’t let splits get on the way.

The irony is growing up, I saw the Cardinals fans as my friend. We could unite against the evil Cubbies.

But now living far away from the situation, I've grown to be very annoyed with The Greatest Fans in Baseball as well.

I'm not sure how much longer we can operate with this rotation, it is killing our bullpen usage. No days off and a bunch of close games doesn't help either. Figure out how to win one of the next two games at least please

If we're going to share extra innings W-L splits, I'll note the Sox are 0-fer on the road.

I don't really like our odds of winning the next 2 with the pitching matchups. But I said the same thing about the first 2 games in Detroit and we somehow pulled both of those games out.

Truth is, if the offense shows up and our combination of openers and bulk relievers keep them under 4 runs, we've got a shot.

Tomorrow is a new day boys. The pen has over performed and clearly he was trying to save some arms today.

These moments are good for a young team to experience. My only concern is with our current rotation of 3 starters how do do we get through the next 20 days. We really need Smith or Thorpe to become a thing down the stretch.

Agree. Our defense was mediocre at best, and our manager made some bad decisions. IMO.

Gausman is hittable, WAS just got to him for 6 ER and they have a similar offense to the Sox.

Hard to know what to make of Holmes since his return. Meh debut vs. KC, good line vs. STL but his velo is down and he wasn't missing bats at all (3 whiffs in 80 pitches).

Should be able to string together offense against at least one of them, just a matter of who can give us innings on the other side.
