Sox just need to avoid a sweep in Cleveland, and their chances of winning the division are very high. A sweep gives Cleveland 3 games in the standings, plus the tiebreaker. Essentially, 3.5 games gai

Can't stand Altuve. He knew he didn't get hit by that pitch.

They'll lose tomorrow to. This offense is too inconsistent.

Why? Their lead is the same as it was when they went to bed last night

The way they're playing...it's obvious they are finally starting to feel the pressure.

If anything Guardians out of game early should have loosened them up instead of causing them to play even tighter.

Why is Tyler davis on this roster…

Soxtalk Panicans say for the 100th time this season.

We were supposed to collapse in August. Some fans just want to be right about "us being bad."

Let Romo bat, let Romo run when on first, let Romo run when on second, keep Newcomb in to face righty

Just terrible managing to not use a righty there. Houston has nobody to pinch hit with. Velasquez is terrible against righties. Will did everything wrong that inning.

Will has been a bad manager lately. Not up to standard of a division leader team. Too many blunders.

If Castillo gives them no shot, they have to consider his role

Should have brought in Taylor but he used him in the 4 run game last night for no reason

He needs to start doing some real press conferences and get grilled by some media people like BJ has to deal with on Bears stuff. Right now he seems to only get a couple pool reporters after a game who lob him softball questions.

This inning rivals anything Grifol did. Also, so great to see Tyler Davis go from minors to high leverage guy. Wtf

This…I just don’t get it, it’s like he’s trying to sabotage the team

From what I read here, Will is too into platoon matchups and also not enough. FWIW, Newcomb has neutral/reverse splits and pitcher split overrides batter split. Seems like we had decided it was his game to lose long before any particular batter got up though.

that is absurd. There are so many times they could have felt the pressure and they didn't. They are losing a baseball game which happens during 162 games.

He’s obviously feeling the pressure, like a lot of these guys

One of those games where they made enough mistakes and couldn't score so a manager's mistakes cost them. Good luck against Hader. Hope he's super wild or something.

Not going to beat Hunter Brown with Castillo pitching

The won a game yesterday and are 4-3 on the road trip. Now will be 4-4 and with a win tomorrow will have a winning road trip like the previous one before it.

reconsider

for who though?

Charlie Hough?

Because we don't need another shitty lefty in the bullpen. He is fine as the last guy in the bullpen until Brazoban is back

You can’t let a platoon guy see a reliever twice like that. Does Venable’s dumbass know the rosters expanded?

Newcomb at damn near 40 pitches and he didn't even have anyone up. Shoulda had somebody ready after Yordan got on. Inning is partially on Chase too. That's a fairly routine play he whiffed on

It was obvious to anyone watching that Newcomb was losing it

Starting to think that Venable isn't very good at this managing thing. I mean, even the Astros pitch ran for Yordan. Leaving Newcombe in for a guy who sucks at hitting righties is baffling.

If the options are leaving Newcomb in or putting in Tyler Davis with the bases loaded and two outs in the 8th inning of a 0-0 game, give me Newcomb all day long. Don’t care about the splits.

the way we have played today we deserve to lose this one

Yep

Bad base running, bad defense, bad ABs, bad managing and bad calls (Altuve wasn't HBP). The pitching kept us in as long as it could though but too many mistakes cost the Sox the game.
