#DBacks sign C Brett Hayes and #WhiteSox sign 2B Steve Lombardozzi, who both elected free agency this month, to minor league deals.

Me: He was okay for a minute, wasn't he?

*checks*

Me: No he was not. Not okay, and for no minutes. Wait is that... is that a NEGATIVE SEVENTY-ONE wrC+ in 2015? How can you... ? 0 for 11 with one walk, that's how.

Can't say I understand this move.

It's a minor league contract. Maybe it's a favor to a scout or an agent, or maybe they just need another infielder at Charlotte. Besides, they can waive him in Spring Training, and the White Sox bank account will never even know he was in the organization.

Do you guys remember when Charlotte was a playoff team, and then we brought up Saladino, Micah, Trayce and EJ, and the team crashed?

Charlotte has a new stadium, presumably they want to field a good team and sox signing some vet fodder is good. He's not blocking anyone.

It didn't make sense to me at first due to the IF depth the Sox already have but you make a few good points.

Edit: makes even more sense now that Beckham has filed for FA.

Steve Lombardozzi - 2B - Diamondbacks

Diamondbacks signed INF Steve Lombardozzi to a minor league contract.

Lombardozzi went 0-for-10 with four strikeouts for the Pirates in 2015 and he also posted underwhelming numbers on the farm. The 27-year-old utilityman probably won't crack the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster.
