December 29, 201510 yr I think Upton has the highest demands in both money and additional clauses, which is why we're not as active in pursuing him compared to the other too, I doubt it has anything to do with Upton's "lack of interest" in playing here.
December 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 09:58 AM) Or he has no interest in talking to the White Sox because they won't offer the most money. How would one know that without a discussion?
December 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 10:00 AM) How would one know that without a discussion? Starting with the White Sox history of signing big named free agents to big deals.
December 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 10:05 AM) Starting with the White Sox history of signing big named free agents to big deals. OK. You wouldn't make a very good agent. Why would any free agent want to talk to the White Sox? You should probably close this thread. Edited December 29, 201510 yr by Dick Allen
December 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) OK. You wouldn't make a very good agent. I can see how my status as a sports agent is totally relevant to this conversation, and not just a personal attack.
December 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 08:14 AM) just a personal attack. Kumquat squash peanut butter pie all over your house - you irrelevant pop star, you!
December 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) I can see how my status as a sports agent is totally relevant to this conversation, and not just a personal attack. Personal attack, LMAO. You are saying because the White Sox don't have a history of being the highest bidder for free agents, that is enough for a free agent to not even be interested in signing with them, not to even listen to what they have to say . You can argue just to argue, but if you really believe that, there is no reason to believe Gordon or Cespedes will sign with the team either, so why don't you do everyone a favor and close those threads? And if you really think that is a personal attack, ban me. Edited December 29, 201510 yr by Dick Allen
December 29, 201510 yr Probably Upton doesn't want to leave the NL or prefers to stay near one of the coasts...
December 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 08:27 AM) Hope rosenthal is right. I think he is. Get er done Hahn! Could tomorrow be the day? It''ll be a Wednesday, ya know...
December 29, 201510 yr Rabbit says nothing is imminent but the Sox are waiting on Gordon. Brian Bilek @ChiSoxraBBit I can't anything is imminent, but things are going to plan. #WhiteSox waiting on Gordon... https://twitter.com/ChiSoxraBBit/status/681868130252111872
December 29, 201510 yr "So not Cespedes?" Brian Bilek @ChiSoxraBBit 29m29 minutes ago Not necessarily. Talks are most advanced with Gordon at this point.

We are growing more impatient by the day and our threads are continuing to become more and more off track with each days that passes.
December 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:33 AM) Probably Upton doesn't want to leave the NL or prefers to stay near one of the coasts... I think he will sign with the O's. He's from the area sorta (Virginia), they have been rumored to be interested, they need an impact bat with losing Davis. Makes a lot of sense to me oh and they have the money.

Davis isnt lost yet, they are just at an impasse
December 29, 201510 yr Who sets Davis' market? Or does the lack of bench mark create the impasse anyway
December 29, 201510 yr I don't see Davis' overall appeal. Sure, he can hit you 40-50 in a year, but he's bad at D, slow, and can't hit for consistent average.

Sure, he can hit you 40-50 in a year, but he's bad at D, slow, and can't hit for consistent average. His market reminds me of Adam Dunn when we signed him in 10. It is a limited amount of teams who need him because they already have 1B covered. Past that, he is only one season removed from an Adam Dunn like season where he hit under .200.

Appeal Boras and Davis seem to think is worth a 200 million dollar contract.

Good comparison, although the offensive environment is completely different today than it was when we signed Dunn, which is why he'll get a f***ton more than Dunn did.

Contract inflation is also way different, which helps Davis.
December 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) Contract inflation is also way different, which helps Davis. Also true. I will say this, Davis is crazy if he doesn't accept the Orioles' offer. I highly doubt any team offers anything close to a deal of that size.

The Yankees have Texeira The Dodgers have AGonz The Cubs have Rizzo The Tigers have Miguel Texas has Prince The Angels have Pujols The Red Sox have Ortiz, and then probably Hanley. The Giants have Belt, and no cash left. The Nationals have Zimmerman Philly is still stuck with Howard, and they are rebuilding The Blue Jays have Encarnacion Maybe the Astros if they have given up on Singleton?

Well, he can DH for an AL team. I do see the Astros as a fit.
