  1. Competitive in this division? Sure. Sox have very little committed to the 2025 roster and payroll besides a bargain superstar in Robert. A little tough to see Getz's longer term vision at this point (besides improving the defense) as nearly everyone he has acquired is a 1 year stop gap outside of Fletcher.

No, and even if he did it doesn't matter. Its not up to him.
  3. I absolutely cringe every time the man speaks. I would love to see the Sox surprise this season and play some level of interesting baseball for a few months, but if the season goes off the rails, one benefit is that clown hopefully being jettisoned to the moon.
  4. Matt Thompson and Baily Horn have the exact same amount of control. Sure, Horn is a couple years older, but the Sox traded a guy who extremely likely to never make it for a guy that has a decent chance to be a part of the Sox bullpen the next half decade+, and has three options. I also don't really understand why some here are grouping Dom Fletcher into the "low upside situational player" pool. He looks like a 2 WAR floor player that can play above average OF defense all three OF positions.
  5. I don't really see what the problem is here. Trading for a major league ready lefty reliever with 6 years of control for a guy that walks the world and is very unlikely to ever make it seems like a perfectly reasonable non-descript baseball trade.
  6. Carved out a role as a swing man on a bad team making some starts and eating some innings out of the pen? Not sure how that is some wild stretch. I am not talking about the guy becoming a mainstay in the pen for the next half decade.
  7. Feel for Jesse. That might be all she wrote for his MLB shots at his age, and he could have easily carved out a nice role this year.
  8. Does it really matter though? The vast majority of the older guys will be goners in 2025, if not sooner.
  9. Kind of a weird one. I liked Thompson. Guess they really want a lefty in that pen in Crochet is getting stretched out.
  10. But plenty of handwringing when Cease was topping out at 91-92 first few days after reporting.
  11. Keith Law is just one guy. Not overly concerned with cherry picking certain farm system rankings for stuff like this. I love how some here are suddenly these Mena fans. I am sure the guy had some supporters here before the deal (I certainly liked him), but its not like he's some upside arm. Has fared OK being young for each level but a fastball that maxes out 91-92 as a 20 year old and a career WHIP over 1.4, including last year. He could very well end up being a serviceable back end SP. But we traded him for a guy that is already a serviceable OF that hits from the left side, something this roster could certainly use. Seems like a pretty basic baseball trade to me.
  12. The Dom Fletcher hate is kinda weird. Guy has the potential to be the best Sox RF since 2016 Adam Eaton. Now that isn't a huge bar to clear, but he looks like a pretty easy 2 WAR floor guy, with upside for quite a bit. Not sexy by any means, but a nice role player type. This Adam Engel comp is nuts and doesn't even make sense.
  13. I liked Mena and all and realize he was young for AA/AAA but he had over a 1.4 whip. Gave up tons of hits and walks. Chances are overwhelming he is not the next Chris Bassitt.
  14. Sox can’t afford to not get a high impact offensive piece for Cease. Neither of us know exactly what had been offered so it’s tough to say if he’s overplaying his hand, but I’m glad he hasn’t settled. The offer I quoted is settling imo.
  15. Im not defending the Dejong move because it sucked, but your obsession with Rosario is weird. Guy isn’t even a SS at this point and Getz clearly made pretty much every move with an eye on vastly improving the defense. Rosario was never an option.
  16. I’d rather just see what happens next couple months than take that deal. It’s fine, but I’m certain Getz wants more and he should.
  17. Benintendi was worth 2 WAR than Bellinger from 20-22. I’d rather have Bellinger but he’s an extremely flawed player.

  19. Problem is that $5M buyout. Say Sox trade Yoan on July 31. They would still owe him $13M. I just don't see how anyone would acquire him even if he is on pace for a 4 WAR type season unless Sox eat at least half of it (which maybe they would). I don't think there is real any chance of a return outside of salary relief.
  20. I wonder how good Yoan has to be to get that $25M team option picked up. It’s really a $20M net decision for the Sox with the $5M buyout. Does a healthy 4 WAR 2019 type season do it? I’m not even sure with Colson waiting in the wings and likely to shift to 3B in the bigs, and the Sox next best position player prospect in Ramos also being a 3B.

    Rosario is a terrible SS.

Beni is amazingly not even 30 yet. I don't think its crazy the Sox could get someone to eat the deal if they prorated it down to like $13M AAV (call it Sox kicking in $10M). That would obviously require Beni to have a very nice first half, tho. I do think he is a much better player than we saw in 23.
