Out of LF's with 400 PAs, he ranked 32nd of 34 with his 0.2 fWAR. Even if you ignore his league worst defensive rating (literally 34th of 34), he ranks 23rd of 34 in LF. Teel DHs against RHP. They split the catching duty otherwise. Sprinkle Quero in at DH a time or two a week instead of Beni, and/or experiment with Quero at 1B or Teel in LF occasionally. I understand the concern, but Sox aren't deep enough for this to be a real concern. Injuries will quickly mean none of these guys will have issues getting plenty of at bats when healthy. Not saying I wouldn't move Beni - I would - but I'm def not just cutting bait, eating $ and DFAing like some want. Makes zero sense.

The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

When healthy, Benintendi is fine, and all things considered, his salary is high for the Sox, but not among his peers. Could the Sox do better? Yah, of course. Will they do better if they dump him for a shitty overpaid pitcher? Almost certainly not.

I can't see Jerry allowing any more big ticket signings with Robert still on the payroll. Okamoto doesn't really fit here anyways unless the Sox are seriously considering Murakami at 3B. I'd love if Ishbia stepped in and aggressively went after Imai. He is arguable the best of the 4 coming over from Japan this offseason and would give the Sox a legitimate ace starter.

On the same point, the '77 WSox Hitmen were so much fun to watch and in this day and age, would have drawn even more fans. The atmosphere in the stands back then was crazy.

The excitement about Murakami coming to the WSox probably has little to do with the fact that he is coming from Japan. Reinsdorf already knows how one player or a couple of new players could excite the Sox fan base....which begs the question, "why hasn't he done it more often?" Consider when he brought Fisk in from Boston. Fans went crazy on Opening Day in Comiskey in 1981. Fisk had already homered at Fenway in their Opener. Fisk responded again in Chicago with a grand slam home run. As we now know, Fisk, Luzinski and Kittle all became fan favorites and made us occasionally wear the ugly '83 uniforms. The roof shot home runs from those guys drew fans into the park. So if Murakami, Colson, et. al. hit some bombs, more fans will come for the show.

I was surprised that everyone passed on him when waived last season. And since then, he basically did what he’s always done in the minors.
