2027 Rotation
David Robertson was paid like a quality elite closer. Credit for Shark offer, which would have been horrendous?...not to mention the acquisition cost for just one year. Ummm...no. They let a long line of pitchers leave the organization without replacing them. The one they QO'd (not Rodon) led to Kimbrel/AJ Pollock/Benintendi. Not to mention Keuchel (very last pitcher from that FA tier) and Mr. Steak & Potatoes by way of St.Louis/TLR and Texas...capped at three year deals that went bust.

The Sox probably guessed right how to get the most out of this lineup. It’s readily apparent. There’s a cost to everything

I wonder if they thought the same way for the pathetic second half of Kolson.

A limited point I think. Yes, they cratered during the Cleveland series. But it’s only 1 series. They took it to 5 games without starting pitchers. They’re young, gonna make changes and improve the talent. The “ approach” can be tweaked with better talent.

2027 Rotation
They extended Sale and Buehrle. Quintana. They all say hello back. So do David Robertson. Let us know what they offered Samardzija. Should Reinsdorf offer Jon Cannon 15/999999999999999 just to prove he wants to win? This is a stupid narrative. All owners "allow" their GMs to offer free agents deals.

I think the final paragraph of the article sums up the season perfectly, for this squad to makes the ALDS was a massive achievement, but to then lose it after going 2 games up in a 5 game series and to strike out like they did in the last 3 games exposed the shortcoming in the offense, and the pitching was on the brink all season and just finally fell apart in the final 3 games, particularly the 2 games at home. Overall, there are many positives from this season but unless the obvious flaws in the squad are adressed then hoping for a repeat next season (if it happens) may lead to disappointment.- Sox Machine with final takeaways...

Three factoids today: October 12, 1966 - Another one of then Sox G.M. Ed Short’s best moves. He sent two-time former All-Star pitcher Juan Pizarro, nursing a bad arm, to the Pirates for minor league pitcher Wilbur Wood. Wood would blossom in Chicago thanks to his knuckleball, first as a record setting relief pitcher then as a four-time 20 game winner. Wood would also make three All-Star teams. He pitched for the Sox through the 1978 season. In that four-year span, from 1971 through 1974, he totaled 90 wins. He started 181 games and in those four years pitched at least 320 innings with a high of 377 innings in 1972. At various times he led the league in games, games started, games finished, innings pitched, batters faced and wins. October 12, 2005 - In one of the strangest endings to a post season game in history, the Sox beat the Angels 2-1, in game #2 of the A.L.C.S. With the game tied in the ninth inning catcher A.J. Pierzynski ran to first on a third strike that bounced in the dirt. Angels catcher Josh Paul, the former Sox player, thought he struck out normally and never threw down to first base as required by the rules. Home plate umpire Doug Eddings agreed with Pierzynski and let him remain at first base. After pinch runner Pablo Ozuna stole second, Joe Crede’s two strike double brought home the game winner and tied the series at a game apiece. October 12, 2021 – The Sox were beaten 10-1 by the Astros in game #4 of the A.L.D.S. eliminating them from the playoffs and ending their season. But the Sox, despite numerous injuries that caused key players to miss significant stretches of time, still won 93 games and the Central Division title. They had consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2003-2006 and for the first time in the 120-year history of the franchise made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. They also beat their crosstown rivals the Cubs, five out of six meetings.- Fire Derek Shomon
Don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit it. Ah Hawk...- Fire of a season!
Sorry man, I don't hate them. I envy them and Milwaukee and Tampa Bay. They make the playoffs seemingly every single year. The Sox with all the advantages of a major market can't seem to get out of their own way let along even post a winning season. Only six since 2007 began.- 2027 Rotation
Chris Sale, Carlos Rodon, Dylan Cease, Garret Crochet, Jack McDowell, Alex Fernandez and Wilson Alverez say "hello..." (and those are just the ones that I can think of off the top of my head. Hell Mark Buehrle was as steady and reliable a pitcher as you could find. Consistently winning in double figures, consistently pitching at least 200 innings, consistently starting at least 30 games. JR let him go to Miami. But time will tell if your prediction comes true that JR will allow Getz to offer and sign some 'decent' starting pitchers. Not over the hill, broken down, injury prone retreads just hoping to hang on or refugees from the KBO. I hope you're right. If they play next year the Sox can not be put in a position where they have to start 30-40 games with openers and hope for the best.- The Official Scoreboard watching thread
No. People like Ken Rosenthal have already discussed that even if it is Milwaukee/Tampa Bay it won't change the owners desire for a salary cap not for competitive reasons but because they want the value of their franchises to increase to the level of the NFL and NBA. One minute after the CBA expires MLB will announce a lockout. The Athletic reported a few days ago a multi page memo has already gone out to teams detailing what they are to do and how they are to react when it begins.- 2026 Appreciation Thread
If you asked that question before June 1, I would have answered 'of course...' But now? Honestly I don't know what I'd do or what the Sox should do. And remember it takes two to make a deal, any other offers he gets will play a major factor in his decision.- 2026 Appreciation Thread
I wouldn't even consider him a switch hitter at this point. He's not an MLB hitter from the right.- ALDS - Game 5 - Deciding Game - Sat 10/10 - 7PM Ct
Cheating on your wife without protection with a kid at home is honestly one of the most despicable, deplorable things a man can do. Full stop. I honestly don't really see a difference between physical abuse and doing that. Good luck explaining to your wife how she got a fucking STD because you were a piece of s%*# who couldn't even bother putting on a condom when cheating on her. The normalization of cheating on your wife in this day and age is fucking deplorable. Then again, we elected a serial adulterer as President, and the most "Christian" people in this country worship him like Jesus, so none of this should be surprising to me.- 2026 Appreciation Thread
if Braden can get his wRC+ against LHP from 17 to ~80-100 he will be OK. Lots of work for him in the offseason to improve his RH swing.- ALDS - Game 5 - Deciding Game - Sat 10/10 - 7PM Ct
Bringing up assholes from well before the days of social media is just stupid. Nobody knew s%*# about Wade Boggs because the internet really wasn't even a thing back then. Everything is different.- Erick Fedde deserves praise
we still have a 10 game winning streak when Fedde starts- 2026 Appreciation Thread
Mune has next season to prove he's a legit MLB 1st baseman. His inability to hit a fucking fastball the latter half of this season is unbelievably concerning.- Erick Fedde deserves praise
Hell yeah!!!- Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer
I can't wait to see both Bonemer and Roch on the MLB roster.- The Official Scoreboard watching thread
