I readily accept that the Sox won't spend Yankee/Dodger money. What I find find so frustrating is that they refuse to put themselves in the best position possible, or even in a reasonable position, given those constraints.

Nylander was the most noticeable player in the first 2 games on that line. Toews and Kane are playing like ass. Every time Nylander had the puck in the opposing zone things were happening. Nylander wasn't the problem, 19 and 88 were. Nylander has some work to do in his own end but the talent is obvious. The only way that trade isn't going to be a win-win is if the Hawks sabotage Nylander by sitting him in the press box after 2 games in which he played well. The core forwards are all bigger problems than Nylander.

Sure he'll spend. He spent $40 million last year....on Colome (Yea), Herrera, Nova, Jay, and Alonso. On other topics: JBJ. Full Season WAR: 1.4; Adam Engel 1/2 season WAR: .8 37 year old Cano and his .736 OPS, with a 4 year commitment? (not to mention what the Sox will have to send to reduce that $96 million payroll liability). What? The Sox have scant little pitching. Stiever needs to be treated like the top prospect he is; not some trade fodder for average players.

Yeah -- if they decide to "go for it," I agree that that is the right strategy, I think as much because of what is available on the market as anything else. In terms of RF, there are really just a handful of DH types available, each with their own warts. The pitching, though, is actually pretty deep and features some high-end talent. Might as well spend on the good stuff and take a cheaper, upside gamble on the the flawed stuff.

Look to the Mets.....what about Mets send package of Cano and Nimmo and we sign Wheeler. Cano has 4 more years at $24/per against which Mariners pay $3.75/per. Cano solves for LH DH and can play a capable 2nd base until Madrigal arrives. Gotta believe Mets would pay down a portion of his salary (i.e. $5/yr.). So, we have Cano (assuming no trade clause can be worked out) for @$15/per through 2023. Nimmo in RF. No idea what we would have to part with but imagine it would be manageable.

I think steve stone would enjoy having a respectful and intelligible conversation about the things you address. I don't think Steve Stone likes hearing people talk about that "cheap Jew Jerry" - which has littered the twittersphere for quite some time. In a vacuum, all thoughts would be read by people on social media but in reality those who shout the loudest and say the most outlandish things online are frequently the ones who draw the most attention... they also tend to be the most relentless. Positivity doesn't really present itself front and center in the world of anonymous keyboard warriors.

So you're telling us this is just about the trades that jump started the rebuild ? Because there doesn't seem to be any disputing that but plenty to dispute in other trades, I mean great, pat the FO on the back all you want for picking some of the top talents from many many lists that tell you the top talent. But try relying on your talent evaluators for Major League talent for trades and it hasn't gone as well. Maybe some Sox scout/evaluator out there was adamant about not trading Tatis but it happened anyway. You read stories about how the scout for Trout was so convinced he was going to be good it may have swayed the Angel's FO to value him higher and they sweated out seeing if anyone else would pick him. Lat time I heard Hahn talk about how convinced a scout was about someone it was Manny Banuelos.

Stone can talk up the White Sox and his boss all he fucking wants. But keep the fans' names out of it. I really don't need the team I root for telling me how ignorant I am when I can see in plain site that they are a bottom 1/3 org success wise over most of my adult life.

JR can be a wonderful human being and family man who treats his employees and people in general really well, be an extremely smart businessman AND also be a really bad baseball owner. Those things aren't mutually exclusive. I think that's what Stone is missing here.

It's frustrating that we're all resigned to the reality that our team is too cheap to go after top notch talent. With the lowest committed payroll in baseball, plus living in the 3rd largest city in the country - why are Cole and Strasburg off limits?
