  1. We’re in town for this one! Our summer trip this year was NYC/Philly/DC and we’re finishing up tonight/tomorrow in Baltimore. My son is undefeated in his Sox game career (4-0) and we’re looking to push it to 5-0 tonight! Sitting in left field, hoping to snag a bomb off the bat of Miguel.
  2. And looking at some of these fledgling "dynasties" (Baltimore, Detroit, Minnesota, Boston) and how quickly the wheels can fall off and the window slam shut, Getz should be planning on that happening to us. Vargas, C & B Monty, Meidroth, Ant-man, Peters, Teel, Schultz, and Martin, everybody looks great, but some of these guys are going to prove to be smoke and mirrors. Some are going to sustain that career-altering injury. Offensively, everybody noteworthy graduated. Now, all you have at the upper levels is Quero, Bonemer, then it starts to thin out with Shelton and DiPino. All of the pitching that was close ran into injuries or setbacks, and we're talking about trading the only promising arm in AA (Gabe Davis). As somebody higher up in this thread said, they're a year early. Ride it out, supplement with fixer-uppers, let the next wave percolate to the upper levels.
  3. We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trades in year 1 of our competitive window.
  4. Sox are 2 years ahead of where they should be. And they are still not one of the best contending teams in the league. I hope Getz doesn't mortgage the future just yet. Get solid guys that won't cost alot and stay the course.
  5. Grab some crab cakes, a sixer of Natty Bo, and let's take it to these O's, hon.
  6. Your first place Chicago White Sox are 44-39 and a game up in the division. This broke a 9L streak vs. Baltimore, which also makes it Venable's first managerial win vs. BAL. Sean Burke pitched a 3rd consecutive good outing, and Sox have won all of them (@NYY, vs. CLE, @BAL) Murphy/Taylor/Eisert combined to put up zeroes until the offense finally came alive late. The guys did bust out the Strokin' shirts again today, maybe that helped.
  7. First win against the Orioles in a long time. Great way to start an important road trip.
  8. Hell of a win. Loved to see Burkes swagger
  9. Looks like Colson may have been a flash in the pan.
  10. Been to 16 of the ballparks so far and I have Camden ranked #3 mostly because of the vibes. Also, it was hot as f*** when I went and they had free water everywhere and I even saw some ushers bringing free water to people in the stands. Our usher was giving out free baseball cards. Cool place
  11. Trading Fauske is not it. He's ascending in an area of need. I like him more than Carlson long-term. Might be prospect hugging, but I'd rather not trade Bonemer/Fauske/Carlson yet. We are a bit ahead of schedule on contention and I think you primarily focus on rentals/eating money at this point.
  12. Every guy who had an at bat got a hit. Nice team effort.
  13. Imagine trying to curse the White Sox when we have a literal Wizard and The Pope on our side. Girl dun goofed
  14. His family owns the freaking Bulls and White Sox. They'll be fine. I still think he'll want Getz to go for it this season. It could be his last chance at a chip.
  15. And that’s a walkoff ABS challenge!
  16. Fitting to win on a challenge K with the night the ump has had lol
  17. How nice would it be if this could spark some road momentum and then they get Mune back around the next homestand...?
  18. Good stuff Colson, big for him to come through there Love when he punishes lefties
  19. I like the Tulowitzki/Correa comp better than Swanson.
  20. s%*# has gone sideways since Ron cursed us with that gamethread bullshit!
  21. I think going "all in" this year would be ill advised. Stay the course and let some of these guys grow. Try to get as many bites at the apple as possible. They finally have depth throughout the system with positional players, don't go back to nothing. Then we'd have no pitching or hitting in the pipeline and we are right back to where we were.
  22. Personally, I would not trade Fauske. If he could be Grady Sizemore (a guy who was in fact traded as a prospect), you're going to regret it for a decade. Boughton, sure. Any and all of the older college guys including pitchers, absolutely. But you start trading your overslot guys like Fauske and Bonemer, you are eating the seed corn.
  23. Seemed like he was throwing a lot harder than I remember from him
  24. One banana, two banana, three banana, four Put him on the Sox and let him rack up 3 WAR
  25. I have not. The only western ones I've been to are Arizona, Anaheim and Colorado. I'll get there eventually though. My husband always tries to plan our vacations around what ballparks we haven't been to yet. Glad to hear we still have some good ones to check off the list
  26. For what it's worth I would be fine moving Carlson if his value was higher. There is a glut of middle infielders, and there will be another when they select Emerson or Roch in two weeks. I would absolutely trade him for some pitching but he didn't come out the gate hot and then he broke his thumb. I'd rather not sell low.
  27. I’ll never complain about the area around Rate Field ever again. What a crap hole!
  28. I would not say we have “so little pitching”, but rather that we have a lot of “uncertainty with our pitching”. Martin, Burke, & Schultz (if healthy) look like 3/5 of a major league rotation. There are a lot of internal options for the other two spots in Sandlin, McDougal, Hagen Smith, Shane Smith, Adams, Thorpe, & Bush. No doubt we should probably add a TOR starter, but ideally that can be done in free agency. If not, we may need to trade for one, but I’d rather make that decision in the off-season or next year’s deadline than do so right now.
  29. yeah Camden is a real nice park, went there circa 95/96 and it was super hot, saw Frank launch a few out to right field during BP.
  30. To me, Bonemer is an untouchable. Carlson, Fauske, & Gonzalez are in the next tier where I’m only moving them for a controllable SP and if they are essentially the centerpiece. Hagen, McDougal, & Sandlin would also be in this tier and the same rules would apply. I would not package two of those guys together either. As such, we’d be a long shot for a controllable SP and that’s ok in my book. Almost anyone would theoretically be available, although there are guys I’d try like hell to avoid trading, such as Oppor, Larson, & Wolkow. Again, this will limit what we can do at the deadline, but I think we can still address the rotation & bullpen using our lessor prospects and financial means. And beyond it being year one of our controllable window, I also don’t think it makes sense to pay a premium for a controllable SP ahead of a lockout. Feels like there is risk that part of the control you’d be paying up for could get washed away in a work stoppage. As such, I’d rather keep my best trade chips for the offseason and once things have settled.
  31. Grichuk gets a DH day against a RHP, Chase a little lower in the order
  32. My guess is Getz will trade for bullpen arms and keep running the young guys out there. Assuming we make the playoffs, it's typically a bullpen battle.
  33. Yea Camden is a top one for me as well. Baltimore isn't bad as long as you stick pretty close to Inner Harbor/Federal Hill/Fells Point. I probably woulda made the trip up if it was a weekend series.
  34. I'd have to be privy to Ishbia's instructions to have a better opinion but if they are going to have to add payroll, either through a new CBA or a new energy from ownership, then there's a 3rd starter and two good bullpen pieces right there, or two good starters even. If we have 60 million to play with in the offseason I'd rather spend that than deplete the lower minors of position players. Quantity has a quality of its own imo and we have some decent quantity.
  35. We'd be fools to give up anything for rentals. I guess after the draft if you think you've got some depth in the lower minors at certain spots it might make sense to target some guys with cheap control but even than what you said. Sox gotta make sure they aren't in a situation like last rebuild where you go from a top 5 system to a bottom 5 system basically over night with graduations into MLB.
  36. I was at Camden back in like 2011 when I was still pretty young and had a lot more hair up front. Was an absolute blast. That was Viciedo's debut at 3B. 22s of PBR were $4 bucks from the outfield stand and Camden def lived up to the hype, a great "open air" stadium is how I'd describe it, it feels like an organic part of the neighborhood rather than how Rate feels sorta just plopped down with some parking lots.
  37. Fair enough. For me Fauske > Carlson. I like the profile better. His hit tool looks better, plus, if they draft Roch, Carlson already redundant somewhat. Different strokes. But I likely wouldn’t trade either of them or Bonemer. Especially for a rental in a year that the Sox are very unlikely to make the WS.
  38. FWIW, yesterday Braden dove for a bloop off the bat of Isaac Collins and came up just short. Some folks thought he might have misplayed it since the ball hung up in the air for a long time. Statcast data is in: 5% catch probability, the first time Statcast has classified a ball hit to him as potentially catchable without him catching it. That's basically at the "only PCA can catch it" tier. So ultimately I'm fairly impressed that he was only a step from catching it and his ability to run down fly balls continues to impress, especially when you consider the scouting reports usually suggested that he didn't know what he was doing out there and would have to develop in order to be a good overall outfield defender. Interestingly, this is his highest difficulty catch so far: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=2131e45a-c7a0-33f5-bc02-8a31eccd7a58 Such a good jump and speed that it looks like a routine out.
  39. So you're going all in on this year, burning any and all future assets to compete this year? Fair enough. I would not be that aggressive in the first year of a competitive window, but I respect the passion.
  40. The wands powers are obviously derived from something in the Chicago area. Possibly something unearthed during the excavation at the 78.
  41. Fair enough. Then the fact that they have struggled on the road having lost 13 of their last 18 games comes into the equation. Let's hope they turn that around this week. This stretch of seven games is important.
  42. But how much of that is due to Venable and how much is due to Vasil's wand?
