Happy B-day, Kap!

QUOTE(juddling @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) Don't mean this the way it might sound but i haven't seen a lot of Heenan wrestling (a bit before my time) but i have seen a few matches. No offense taken - most of the people on the board are probably too young to have seen Heenan in his prime. When Heenan was primarily a wrestler (as Pretty Boy Bobby Heenan), there was almost no high-flying in wrestling. (Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell were called The High Flyers, and their only real "flying" moves were dropkicks and leg-scissor takedowns) Plus, throwing someone over the top rope was cause for a DQ in those days. So when Heenan would get thrown all around the ring, it was something that didn't happen all that often and was more interesting to me than the mat wrestling that ruled the day. Plus, Heenan played that sneaky/cowardly/arrogant heel role to perfection. I guess the main reason he didn't make my Top 15 was that he became a manager when I was still fairly young, and I don't have as many specific memories of him as I do of the guys on the Top 15. Although I suppose I should have included Heenan for being the guy who made me realize wrestling was "fake". I was 6 or 7 and I was watching wrestling on Sunday morning, and Heenan had a match against Spike Huber (Dick The Bruiser's son-in-law). I saw Heenan mouth the word "dropkick" and then Huber dropkicked him. I turned to my Dad (who HATED wrestling, but indulged me) and I said, "DID YOU SEE THAT, DAD??? HE SAID DROPKICK AND SPIKE DROPKICKED HIM!" and my Dad looked up from his newspaper and said "Yeah, no kidding.....it's all fake" and kept reading. I laugh now when I think about how duped I felt.

QUOTE(juddling @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) Bobby Heenan (though not so much for his wrestling) Heenan almost made my list as a wrestler. In his day he was a vastly under-rated wrestler. Very athletic and the classic "sneaky heel". IMHO, Ric Flair's early style was reminiscent of Heenan's. Heenan always did that corner flip Flair loves so much, and Bobby was "the dirtiest player in the game" before the term was coined. If there was a cruiserweight division when Heenan was active, he'd have thrived much more as a wrestler.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) When I didn't follow Howard Stern to Sirius (mostly because I don't have the time), I started listening to Adam Carolla. The show was pretty good. Not as many big laughs, but he's always pretty interesting. I got used to the show. This year, they blew up his staff and added Danny Bonaduce to the show. It's a wreck, as Danny doesn't know when to not speak. The chemistry is awful, so I went to the website to see what others thought, and they agree. I occasionally (almost accidently) post there as a result. Where else do you post? I disagree about their chemistry. I think they (and Teresa) play off each other well, and the show has a nice flow to it. Danny will probably wear out his welcome there, if history holds true, but I enjoy just about every clip I hear from Adam's show. I never heard his show before Danny got there, and I think I'm glad I didn't because I don't have any other form of his show to contrast and compare it to.

Here are mine - get ready for the Old Man List! (I counted tag teams as one slot if I liked the team better than the solo careers of the members of the team) 1. Dick The Bruiser 2. Nick Bockwinkel 3. The East/West Connection (Jesse Ventura & Adrian Adonis) 4. Arn Anderson 5. Mick Foley 6. The Road Warriors 7. Rick Rude 8. Billy Robinson 9. Steve Austin 10. Owen Hart 11. Chris Jericho 12. Ric Flair 13. Curt Hennig 14. Randy Savage 15. Eddie Guerrero

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) You have to give him credit for how he handled our bullpen that season, as he did a great job of putting Cotts/Politte/Hermanson/Jenks in situations where they could excel. The only reliever he handled poorly was Marte. Also, when we were getting good pitching, especially early, Ozzie did a good job of playing smallball early in the game to get us a lead. All these points are true.

GAME THREAD: LAAAAAAAAAAA vs Sox, 3:05pm

Hawk is closing in on Dusty Baker territory with the excuses he's making for the team. -
Well, that was boring...

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) Remember how it was said that MNM was initially split up to benefit Mercury and discipline Nitro? Yeah, that didn't work out too great. Was that how it went down? If so, it's weird that they give their main drawing card, Melina, to Nitro instead of Mercury. I thought it was Mercury who got punished in the split. As it turns out, it appears that Nitro is much closer to having "it" than Mercury is. Nitro has a better look, seems to work a little better, and draws more heat than Mercury. (Granted, that's not saying all that much....)

Joey Mercury was released today. MN.....no M. And after he sacrificed his face for the business!!!

How many Sox games are you planning on attending?
The Critic replied to Rex Kickass's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just one so far. I had too many last-minute bail-outs last year, so I didn't renew my share in the season ticket group. -
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 01:19 PM) I know he's trying to make it the new n word, but is it really acceptable to say? I still see it as a racial slur. Mexican-Americans and immigrants I know or have encountered never, ever call each other that. I would never use the word in a discussion not involving him. I only used it because it's so prevalent in his routine. I certainly didn't mean to offend you or anyone else, and I'm sorry that I did.

There was also a clip on YouTube showing an old Sam Kinison bit about Jesus and the crucifixion and then a Mencia bit roughly about the same thing, but it didn't seem as blatant a ripoff as the Cosby thing. Mencia's bit, as always, wasn't funny. I can't wait for Mencia's 15 minutes to run out - the amazing thing about him is his ability to suck the funny out of the stolen bits. The thing that made Cosby's "Hi Mom" bit funny was the sadness behind it at the end - Mencia, as usual, just freaks out and screams, which kills the bit in my opinion. But that's his schtick, The Screaming Beaner. Ugh.

LOL The negativity goes away and the game thread dies. EDITED to curse the stupid time problem - I thought it had been an hour between posts. to myself. Trying to bring it back on track - Danks looks good today.

QUOTE(max power @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:00 AM) What the hell is props short for anyway? It's short for "propers", which is short for "giving him his proper respect". Oh, and props to Dylan, by the way!

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) What CWSGuy and I are hanging our collective hat on: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...se.notes/1.html I hope Skille pans out, but I remember when Ruutu was "the best player in the world not playing in the NHL". Tuomo was supposed to be all things to all people - "the new Jeremy Roenick" is the phrase I remember hearing and reading the most - and maybe he'll develop into something close to that someday, but my skepticism is miles ahead of my patience at this point. The Hawks are becoming sort of Cub-like, minus the blindly faithful fanbase and goofy "curses". I've kind of given up hope of seeing a Stanley Cup victory in my lifetime.

Andy the Clown and the Get Up Guy annoyed me every bit as much as Woo Woo does, but they probably didn't smell as bad.

QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 02:06 AM) They shoulda replaced those blue seats with blue seats that match the green ones. For comfort and aesthetics, yes. For history and accuracy, no. As long as I'm not sitting in one of the blue seats (which look much smaller than the green ones), I vote HISTORY AND ACCURACY!!! -
I also enjoy Gene Simmons' show. His son seems pretty cool and this season should be interesting just to see Gene's new plastic face. I like Dice Undisputed, although I must admit I am just a bit disappointed in it. I always end up getting sucked in to those "Inferno" MTV shows, and I enjoyed the White Rapper show just cuz MC Serch is a favorite of mine from "back in the day". But the all-time reality show champion - and I will accept NO debate on this fact - HAS to be: Breaking Bonaduce Danny is a total whackjob who will do literally anything if a camera is on him. And THAT makes for great TV.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) There's no songs I like more than "More Than a Feeling" and "Peace of Mind." I know those are popular answers but those two were what got me hooked onto Boston. I agree, although the first two albums are solid throughout. Lots of great songs there. "More Than A Feeling" still takes me back to my teenage years - EARLY teen years, but teenage nonetheless...

...well, obviously neither of those are as exciting as yet another "posterizing" dunk...

I watched "Hollywoodland" last night. I wouldn't recommend it. Adrien Brody was very good, but the movie itself was kind of dull and the ending was not satisfying at all.

Music RAWKZ!!!! ....unless it sucks....

Don't they have a freakin' grounds crew??? "There's a big ol' hole in the pitchin' surface, Skip." "....where's the grounds crew?.....ahhhhh, just stride over it, what's the worst that can happen?" Unbelievable.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) We brutally execute millions of animals each day to feed the populace in assembly lines. Pigs, cows, and chickens have the same feelings that dogs do and are considered just as smart. Only a small handful of people seem to care about those animals. *awaits to get pummeled by Soxtalk nation* Odd slant coming from Soxtalk's "godless killing machine".... I think the difference in the two scenarios is the ADDED cruelty of sending a head to a girl who was papering the neighborhood looking for her missing pet. Oh, and dogs aren't delicious....if they were, they'd be on that assembly line.....(wouldn't it be a DISassembly line?).....that's the other difference....
