24 million would buy 1 good player. I can understand that Getz believed the collective efforts of 7 players you name might out produce that 1 player, but it didn't work out that way. Maldonado at 4.5 million is the one that sticks in my craw.
Bill Veeck didn't have the money to compete but never stopped finding ways to entertain the fan. Lousy teams are part of baseball but failure to entertain the fan is inexcusable.
This was 1972 and Bobby Hull was the "Golden Jet" not an abuser. Hull was a true superhero to Chicagoans. JR has done nothing so offensive to the fan base in comparison.
Still watching every game...but for sure disappointed in the poor start. On another note...happy they dropped the gangster celebration after home runs. That's only cool when you are leading the league in all offensive categories.
