They can, but then they get dinged again because their division is gonna be a bloodbath. Their causal approach to the offseason (thus far) would be less of an issue if they were in one of the central divisions.

Vaughn and Sox avoid arbitration: $5.85 million
Snopek replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's interesting to think about the alternate timeline. If Tatis was never traded, maybe Hahn signs him to one of those Eloy/Moncada/Robert deals and we're not even in a rebuild right now. But yeah, your general point stands that the Sox are cheap bastards. -
Fully agree. It’s just that passive approach of ‘we already have a potential ace so we don’t need to seek one out’ that bugs me.
-
To be clear, my quote is just snarky paraphrasing of what Elias actually said about Grayson, but the essence is there.

From the Kittredge thread:

I think it’s all relative to expectations, draft position, etc. If Vaughn was a fourth round pick, he clearly wouldn’t be a bust. But he was a consensus top 5 pick and seen as a polished hitter who would be a difference maker offensively. When the results are league average production after that, that’s bust territory IMO. -
Orioles add Kittredge to high leverage corps

The Elias quote about Grayson is giving off real Rick Hahn circa 20-21 vibes. ”If everyone stays completely healthy and reaches their 99th percentile outcome, it won’t matter that we didn’t make any bigger signings.” -
White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas

Interesting stuff, but absolutely nothing there that indicates the groups “hated each other.” -

The amount of high profile busts from the last rebuild is truly incredible. -
I imagine this will be a tough Sporcle answer down the road for Sox Opening Day Starters.

Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart

Maybe it went straight to the spam folder. -
Later in 2025 season - Schultz and Hagen S. as MLB bullpen pieces
Snopek replied to Fielder Jones's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Sox were "normal bad," this might make more sense. But since they went out and made themselves historically bad, it becomes a completely different scenario. They've dug such a deep hole for themselves that signing these players, while it would make the team marginally better in the very short term, would not get the team any closer to contention. -
Vance Joseph was actually a failed HC with the Broncos in 2017-2018, so even better.

Oh I agree, just joking. I hope. -

And now the Lux for Robert trade to undo all of the Getz goodwill from the Crochet deal. -
I was expecting the “That’s bait ☝️” gif from you.

Lol'ing at the thought of Getz spinning this into a bullet point for his resume for the GM position: Directed efforts to supplement organization with over 20 WAR from players with no previous MLB experience

Wonderful use of punctuation there, Bowden -
Daniels would’ve been awful on the bears. Caleb was the right pick then and he’s the right pick now. Despite his current flaws, he’s still the most direct path to a franchise qb.
-
Who would they take instead?
-
What does this even mean? If you're saying they were hoping he'd be one of the top starters, sure, why not. If you're saying they were expecting him to be one of the top starters, I'd like to know where you're getting your information from.
-
Just under. I know it’s hard to do, but I think the roster is that bad.

Chicago sports lololol

Yep. I’ve been wanting the streak to end for a few games now with the hopes that it would allow him to stop being so conservative. I don’t that kind of play is best for his development. Especially in all these meaningless games where they could have been working on more downfield plays, which he clearly needs to work on.

CWS Acquire Reliever Cam Booser from BOS
Snopek replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Right, and many teams are run well enough where they can absorb those mistakes and still be successful. Meanwhile, because the Sox have been bad at almost everything, they have way less margin for error. They don’t have other strengths to fall back on, and it’s nobody’s fault but their own.
