  1. Thoughts on Thorpe: Beckham didn't mention it until the 5th, but you could see his athleticism immediately, from the first play where he covered first base on a grounder to Vaughn. The last play he made was ridiculous. This also translates into one of the most simple and repeatable deliveries you will see. Every pitch slots exactly the same. He is fast and efficient to the plate, and his plus pickoff move is guided by very quick feet. I thought he actually gave Maldonaldo a chance to throw out Rodriguez both times, where there probably isn't even throw with 90% of pitchers on this roster. His weakness, obviously, is that fastball is 92 and doesn't move a ton. He's gotta be able to spot it consistently. If he can do that, I think he'll be very good. The change is obviously a weapon, and it seemed like his breaking balls were pretty meh last night, although it seems like he's several different ones. I'd like to see him develop a two seamer that runs a bit. Overall an exciting opening performance. he will take some lumps this year for sure if he stays up. But he is much more ready than the other rookie pitchers imo, and should have some successes along with struggles.
  2. Seems very streak at the plate. Started off sizzling, then a tough month, then sizzling for the last couple weeks. That's fine if he can maintain that high OPS and solid power at the big league level.
  3. No I think he managed Kuntz in the minors for a season.
  4. Adams is a little less precise than normal tonight, but I like his game. He's a easy thrower with a simple motion, could be a #5 who eats innings I think, or long reliever.
  5. Tony LaRussa just mentioned me on the Barons broadcast!
  6. Barons with 5 straight hits, including Gonzales, Baldwin, and Quero.
  7. Two since he's back, he hit two before he got hurt.
  8. 3 runs on one broken bat gork.
  9. LOL that was an uncompetitive AB.
  10. You don't see that level of incompetence from a 1B very often, just a total brain fart.
  11. If everyone in the system becomes their 99% outcome, the Sox would be great. Unfortunately that never happens. If two of them hit that would be lucky.
  12. I really like Yesavage, although I think if they go SP it will be Smith if he's there. His ceiling is really really high imo.
  13. Yesavage was just filthy in the first. Burns obviously dominant too but seems like a bit less command today.
  14. But they'd also probably like to see that he could do it for a year or two.
  15. Fair enough. I'd be happy with that return for Crochet.
  16. That's basically what Cease returned, minus Wilson.
  17. Are you taking the risk on a guy with his record to make a stretch and playoff run if you are a GM looking for a top starting pitcher? A guy who has already surpassed his total career innings by 150%, and you're asking him to throw another 60+ or so? I'm not.
  18. I don't think Crochet has much value because he's going to run out of innings. He's pitched 73 total innings over the previous 4 years, and by the deadline if he keeps this up he'd be well over 100 for this year. If that wasn't the case he'd get probably a low top 100 guy and another young guy. He will have high value this offseason. My initial reaction was they could get something like a top 200-250 guy for Fedde. I'd move that to a better prospect now, something like 150. Hard to imagine anything for Flexen. If he gets hot maybe a total flier.
  19. I feel like a mid-career dude who has been passed over for several huge promotions would be dumb to not take the huge promotion when he gets the chance.
  20. Watching old tape of himself. LOL.
  21. How can you even get mad? He's a complete beta, no clue how to lead a locker room. It's not his fault they were dumb enough to hire him.
  22. Anyone with a stat on how many GIDPs for Vaughn? Seems like one every two games.
  23. He seems to miss to the 3rd base side quite a bit. Still obviously encouraging. A night and day difference from last year overall, really promising player.
  24. The Athletic has a good short piece today on MLB deadline sellers with the White Sox listed as, you guessed it, #1 seller. Mentions Robert but doesn't think there's much chance he'll go. Montes has 60+ potential as a left-handed hitter, 65+ power. Not truly elite overall but this org desperately needs that. He's not a true headliner but packaged with a 55 IF and 50 OF, I'm not sure you're going to do much better in this environment. I still think holding him til 2025 trade deadline is probably the best move.
  25. It would take 3 of their top 7, including Emerson or Young, and Montes. Maybe some young pitcher as well.
