Another victim of modern baseball: The no hitter. Does anybody really care if 2-3 pitchers combine on a no hitter? Because of modern baseball (pitchers never throwing complete games) the Nolan Ryan type of no hitter is an endangered species. Does anybody agree with me that a combined no hitter is one, big yawn? Only no hitters that matter are by ONE pitcher working the whole game. I stand by that. A complete game was part of baseball lore, a thing of beauty by Buehrle and many other pitchers. Good luck getting players in the Hall of Fame in the future. W/L record which was so important in a starter getting in the hall (300 wins was a huge Hall of Fame deal) now is totally meaningless. Waht will be the standard for pitchers? Ks vs innings pitched? I guess closers can still rack up a lot of saves that the Hall would be interested in maybe. Hitters? I guess the only standard for the Hall consideration will be WAR. Players won't be smashing 3000 hits with players considered over the hill now at 36 or so. Players 'might' still be bashing a lot of homers, though, so I guess 500-600 career homers might still be possible and catch the Hall's eye. However with HR and K the only outcomes of at bats when the ball is lively, the home run stat might not get ya in the Hall either. We actually might have too many with 500 hrs. Batting average ... meaningless now for Hall consideration. And RBIs? Not important either. Stolen bases? LOL. Rest in peace stat book of Ricky Henderson and Tim Raines in his prime.I guess it'll be WAR combined with longevity. If you have a great WAR over 10 or more years that mite get u in the new hall. So sad.

Steve is great analyst IMO. He's just sick of all the whining on Twitter. Thing is there are a ton of reasons (besides the cliches, fire the manager; fire the hitting coach, fire the GM) the Sox stink. The primary No. 1 reason of course are the injuries and as a former player Stoney knows the injuries have decimated this club, forcing the Sox to use many players who never ever should be in the big leagues. ... The fire the manager/hitting coach stuff grows old after hearing it 50 years so Stoney is a bit testy on Twitter. As much as fans despise Tony, that fire the manager, fire the hitting coach argument is too simplistic and cliche driven for Stoney.

Ron, are u serious? Lightfoot will win again. Chicago is like so many cities in the country. That 'D' next to her name assures victory. Just like in say, Kansas, the 'R' almost always assures victory. And no other 'D' is going to beat her out or the nomination. If Foxx was voted in again they'll vote any 'D' in. What Foxx has done to that poor city is so sad. Hard to believe a couple politicians can have so much influence on people's lives in a once-stellar city.

Sox are done for this season. They can't contend. More injuries this week, every week. Mendick out for season? That's just crazy. This injury thing with the White Sox has to be addressed by the FO in some way. There's no reason the injuries figure to stop, either. I would guess we're due for some more pitching injuries though the guys with hammy problems can have those return at any point as well. Sox are not contenders. Just too many guys spending way too much time on IL.

Damn. This is a great post but scary. Harry do you feel safe on a daily/weekly basis living your everyday life in the city? Any new concerns or precautions the past couple years? Can you explain with all the problems in Chicago that Foxx wins elections and Lightfoot assuredly will win reelection? Are people noticing???

I have not seen those stats. Must be a tough job. Toughest part of it has to be the times you do catch a murderer or armed robber, carjacker and/or home invader and they are let off by the DA. That would make anybody with pride quit their job after that happened once. It's a dangerous job, police officer, and if the mayor and DA don't have your back, it's not worth the risk.

They are sincere, thanks. I've pointed out, oh a zillion times, my nephew is a firefighter on the west side of Chicago and actually lives near the station. His opinions are valuable. Also have fam and friends still in Mt. Greenwood/Beverly who I speak with. And finally I have peeps in Naperville and Lisle and Aurora. I also point out my cousins are abandoning Chicago/suburbia for Zona and Nashville and the latest cousin is headed to Texas. All are sick of the taxes and danger in Chicagoland. Despite my trepidation about the city, I pointed out I was there in the spring and even walked around alone downtown one night and also wasn't afraid. I consider it luck. If it's the night somebody's cruising looking for trouble, that's a city u can get carjacked or whupped over the side of the head and robbed. I hope for the best for Chicago. Until the DA starts charging people and making the charges stick and not letting violent criminals out on bail ... uh, that's a problem. Gas has been expensive before but never an outrageous price like what's going on now. They are talking about 7 dollar a gallon coming soon. WTF? I know the days of the lines around the block were worse but that's about it. Joe is at war with the gas companies and at war against all fossil fuels. The Repubs love the gas companies and fossil fuels. So it will be very 'funny' to see this all change, total reversal, in 24 if Trump wins again. Or DeSantis. There's no way the Repubs will go green and get rid of gas-driven cars for all electric cars, etc. Two parties with entirely diff. philosophies and agendas. Joe has made it clear he's at war with those who produce fuel in the USA. Trump/DeSantis will be lovey dovey with the gas companies. Crazy times indeed. ... I do know I hate paying big bucks for fuel.

That would be neat if aliens were nice, caring beings with no delusions of grandeur/violence, and finally came down with solutions on how we can all get along. It's possible. I mean if you use the idea of probability (the things the government has said; very intelligent people thinking the govtment is hiding info on aliens from us) I would say a reasonable take is we are not alone. How could we be alone in the vast universe? If the aliens are friendly that would be awesome if they come on down. You (Jerry) don't fire your best bud a second time especially when your bud is a Hall of Famer and you yourself are very old. Yeah I saw a tweet after my posting that said he's due back tomorrow. I would be skeptical of that. This will go down as the year of the Sox injury. Hopefully they can shake the bug next season.

Not to be mean, but this is about the time I expected Luis to go down with injury. He had a nice run but was well overdue to come up hobbled. Basically the entire roster is an injury waiting to happen. Very very sad but I think true.

You can't say this with 100 percent certainty. ... For one, how do you know Putin would have chosen this time to invade Ukraine with a more trigger-happy dangerous USA leader in Trump. Say what you want, it's possible he doesn't attack at this time in history if Trump was still in charge. ... And Trump would never have reduced drilling in the USA. He may be the devil to many, but there's no way he's pulling back on oil production in the USA. Discuss all you want if Joe's vision on energy is better, but no way in hell is Trump pushing ANY green agenda if it means this kind of pain at the pump. No way. If somehow the Repubs win it back in 2024, there will be an immediate complete reversal regarding oil production in the USA, pipelines flowing, etc. So many things going on now (border included) would/will be reversed in 24 if Repubs somehow won. Not trying to say my reaction is mature, but I'll be honest and you all please tell me what you do while filling up. ... -- I actually say these words out loud unless somebody is close to my pump as I don't want to offend and/or get punched by somebody who might have no problem with the prices. I always shake my head while looking at the price monitor run amok and say, "Thanks Joe." I also look around and assess the possibility of a carjacker being near my car. So far I've mainly filled up in Lawrence and though we do have crime from the gangs in Topeka coming in, so far I haven't seen potential trouble from hooligans at the pumps.
