  1. Tony is so funny with his rest. Taking Timmy out is so soft, just cause team is getting bludgeoned. He had two hits, let him have a night.
  2. Suddenly the Sox are the new Baltimore Orioles.
  3. True. I love Steve Stone but he should stop singing a positive note on Twitter.
  4. I'd be OK with that. It truly is time to fire people. HOWEVER that costs money, lot of money to pay Tony's salary the rest of his deal, pay Hahn's contract and NO WAY Jerry will do that. This embarrassment should cause firings tho. No more defending Tony. He needs to go relax somewhere and fish for a few months.
  5. I'm OK with getting rid of Tony. That is all. This team is a mediocre mess. Losing like this at home is a total and utter embarrassment. So Leury to pitch one or two innings?
  6. Wow just tuned in. 13 hits to one. Brutal.
  7. Those are five decent starters. Too bad this isn't the old days. All five of those guys cept maybe Cueto if he runs out of gas in the old days could go 8 and leave the closer to mop it up. Or go a full nine. Now they'll go 5 1/3 all season and Sox gotta hope bullpen is good nuff.
  8. Anderson is a gem of a human being. Josh deserved a significant penalty but he's a Yankee and there are different rules for Yankees. The surprising thing is a lot of Twitter is calling Tim out for being soft. He didn't start this. Tim has been fine in all this; Josh not so much. He shoulda got at least a month on the sidelines. You can't bring up race and only get one game. Many have been canceled completely for less than this.
  9. Agreed fully. And Donaldson also should be ridiculed for his stupidity. Nobody else in baseball has dared tease Tim about his magazine article. Very unwise to go there whenever the name Jackie Robinson is involved. You are just asking for trouble if u are Donaldson.
  10. I knew he'd get off light being a New York player. But I figured one week. He's lucky he plays for the Yankees. In today's cancel culture he really truly coulda got two months. Why? 1.) He didn't need to say anything to Tim especially after the recent shove at third base. 2.) Choosing to say Jackie? Wow. You are talking a two month suspension if this was somebody outside of the Yankees doing the same things. I'm disappointed lots of folks on Twitter are calling Tim "soft" for complaining publicly. That's the wrong take. He got asked about it after the game and gave a reasonable response. Tim didn't do anything wrong. He gave a reasonable take to SI for that article and Josh seems to be the only MLB player to for some reason joke with Tim about it.
  11. That would be very unfortunate. Doesn't security kick u out immediately if you are going after a specific player with taunts? Fans have to help the security in this case and point out the hecklers so they can get ejected from the park. Can't be yelling that at players.
  12. Exactly. Same with a good comedy show or music performance. ... This incident should result in an apology and significant suspension and then baseball try to move on with the season.
  13. Good post Shoeless Joe. Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry u have gone through a lot in your life in terms of hurtful comments. Trust me I'm serious about that. And I'm glad u are resilient. Glad u never followed thru on your thoughts of leaving the world. I'm glad you said this line in yout post u said, '(I'm not saying Chappelle can't make trans jokes or should be "canceled" for doing so'). That proves to me you in addition to being a thoughtful person u have a clue cause you apparently realize it's comedy. Then you add a statement which you have every right to add: (You said ... 'I'm just asking, why do it? Why punch down? It's hack comedy, and it emboldens bigots to continue viewing people like me as subhuman')." That's a fair statement. My only answer is some comics "go after" all people all things. Not telling u anything u don't know. Remember Andrew Dice Clay? Don Rickles? They attacked virtually everybody. If you watch Chappelle long enough he'll probably get arround to offending a lot of people. If I was sitting in the front row at his concert he'd probably mock me. My only answer to you is it's comedy. If somebody at a show doesn't want to take the joke and are offended, one could either just wait to see how many other groups of peeps he offends or get up and leave. That would make a big statement at the comedy show. Like I said the Carlin concert I was at, I'd say 1/4 of the peeps left cause he was attacking parents who give their kids modern names he didn't like. The mommies and daddies in the crowd, some of em, didn't like the jokes. Carlin said he was for all natural disasters and loved reading stories about people dying cause he acknowledged he hated all people and actually had a joke saying he was for anything that caused people to die so it'd be less jerks on the planet. He went after so many groups ... he felt as if his hatred of all people was fair game comedy. I thought it was funny cause it was IMO pretty hilarious stuff he was spewing. He was so outrageous, yes in a comedy setting it was quite funny. He and Chappelle had/have other material too. They just don't bash away for 90 minutes. p.s. I hope your friends, siblings, bosses, parents are treating u with respect and love. Hope your pain will go away.
  14. Are u serious? Must be nice to have pals who back each other. He fired back what he did to me after my long posts and that's a fair argument to continue? LOL. Thanks. I'll sit this baby out for good. I lose.
  15. We've been thru this before. I told u you are quicker than me, smarter than me and come back at me with quick one liners while not answering my questions. I try to give a long response to your questions, get nothing in return but another question. So I won't take this bait and for now will say "no comment." I think I have the right after my long answers are returned with one liners such as this. I told you before "you win" any argument with me cause you are better than I am in such a give and take. I think it only fair if u want a discussion you do more than fire one liner questions bak at me. Peace out
  16. This type of post is thought provoking and interesting and personally why I still look at message boards. You offer an interesting perspective and give me something to think about. I'd have to think more about what you wrote before commenting but I totally endorse your right to make this post.
  17. Well ... sure. If I break the law I am responsible for my actions and should be punished. Like rob a store or carjack or punch somebody and break their jaw. If I do something like that it is my crime and I must accept the penalty. I am responsible for those heinous things and must be penalized. If I take a bat and start whacking my neighbor's car I am responsible for damages and must pay the price in court of law. If I jump. over the fence and run on the field and delay a Sox game, I am responsible and should be tackled and charged and thrown into a cell. If I am a baseball player and call TA "Jackie" twice during a game do I deserve a penalty? Sure. I think he should be penalized. The length of the suspension maybe to be decided after a meeting between commish and player. One week to two months depending on what Tim wants and how Donaldson explains himself. True all Donaldson did was utter words and not physically assault TA, however, the words could be construed as racist and meant to cause a disruption/fight in the baseball game. And those who run the game could feel these words were directed at one person in a sports setting, not some entertainment venue in which such comments might be allowed (like a comedy club). Thus the comments are not good for the sport or specifically today's game and Donaldson's words deserve punishment IMO. He did it to rile up an opponent and like u say, personal responsibility kicks in and he should be punished. Do I think comics are personally responsible for words in their act? Personally I'd say no. People can get up and leave or even ask for their money back even though that request would prolly be denied. If they do it on TV or Netflix, the consumer can always turn off the TV or close the browser window. You should know if you choose to go to a comedy show something offensive to some, funny to others, might be said. Now if a comedian grabs a brick and throws it into the crowd, yeah they are responsible for their actions and should be prosecuted. So I guess yes I do believe in personal responsibility. However I don't think you are gonna answer my specific questions about comedy. I tried to answer yours. I would hope most people in the world have a sense of humor.
  18. i'll drop this if you want, but I do have a question. Do you believe in comedy? Do you believe all topics are OK for comics to tackle? Have you been to a comedy show? And do you think comedy should be allowed in America with all topics acceptable, letting the people decide if they want to support the comic or not? To make him/her popular or not? It's OK if you think "risque" comedy or "cuss word comedy" should be regulated. I don't. I think Chappelle and others have free reign. Let the consumer decide if that comic gets popular or not. it's just entertainment. Comedy is something people don't have to support if they don't want. But no need to cancel comics over their act.
  19. This is all pretty unsettling for baseball. Baseball needs to solve this incident quickly. It has the potential to get really really ugly. Not sure what commish should do but it's pretty much all in Donaldson's court. He needs to figure out how to make amends for this and do it quickly.
  20. It's not like he has one topic in his show. It's not like he goes out there an hour and hits one group and one only. He goes after all sorts of groups as part of his COMEDY ACT. People need to chill out. Comedy is comedy. People can turn the channel, not buy tickets or walk out.
  21. I didn't start it. I was responding to a post about cancel culture and being told what it is. I love me some comedy cause I don't take it seriously. It's comedy baby. And Chappelle is so funny I can't even describe.
  22. I think Dave Chappelle is so funny it's beyond words. His job is to be a comedian. Like Don Rickles, no subject is off limits for a great comedian like Chappelle/Rickles. Some like Seinfeld (who I just love also) keep it clean and don't make jokes about sex and race and ethnicity; some do. It's just comedy. One can turn the channel or not go to the concert or walk out of the concert if they don't like it. I was listening to Chappelle's bit about meeting O.J. four times tonight off youtube and he had me laughing my ass off. A guy like Seinfeld won't go after an O.J., which is fine too. As far as comedy, I thought George Carlin was brilliant. I saw his show in Vegas. He was attacking parents for giving male boys what he called sissy names. He gave some examples of names he didn't like (he preferred Joe, Bill, Bob, Dave; names like that). I'd say 1/4 of the crowd walked out. Their right to leave of course but no need to cancel the late genius, George Carlin over comedy.
  23. Disagree. Can u say Dave Chappelle? The attempt at canceling him is over his profession ... cutting JOKES.
  24. Oh I think Josh D will get suspended for his comment. That will be him having to pay for what he did. How long a suspension is the question. I do think the 2 should meet and discuss what is going on or talk on the phone. And if Timmy doesn't accept Josh's apology, I think Josh might be sitting a long time.
  25. In a nutshell. ... -- Donaldson is lucky he's a Yankee. Might help him considering Yankee fans will have his back completely. -- Tim as a human being has a right to be upset about whatever he wants. If he was offended baseball and the world has to understand he has the perfect right to be offended. In a perfect reasonable world, Like flavum said, the two should meet tomorrow alone and hash it out (as long as Tim is OK with the meeting and there's no chance the two will brawl). Two good baseball players who apparently have talked to each other a lot on the field in the past should merely meet and talk it out). --- My conclusion: If he wasn't a Yankee Donaldson probably would get a HUGE suspension for this, since he admits calling TA "Jackie." No matter the context (SI article) he'd probably get 2 months suspension cause of cancel culture. Because he's a Yankee, I'd say he'll get a week suspension (since he's admitted doing it), maybe two weeks. However if Tim refuses to accept any apology from Donaldson, Donaldson might be suspended a long time. Tim's reaction to what happens tomorrow and ensuing days will probably determine Josh's future in the game. Just my take. I'd like to hear folks' takes on how long Josh will be suspended.
