Am I a clown for being a Getz-lover (as a fan) at this point? I haven't been on the board much so I don't know what the board veterans think of him. I see all this talent on the field and can't help but think Mr. Getz knows baseball.

I agree with Plesac. As far as media attention Muni makes Sox nationally relevant. Then when the media gets interested cause of Muni there are a bunch of other players worth talking bout and writing about as well. Sox are a dandy team to dissect.

I only watch highlights on mlb and I must say his calls of spectacular plays/HRS do not annoy me anymore. I'm willing to give him a new 3 year deal.

B. Curious to know why the well-respected fathom went with D. Think back to the days the Sox were 'good' before the tank job. Sox rarely made moves at the trade deadline. I feel like Getz truly is moneyball baby. Modern GM who makes moves.

Is this guy our Gerrit Cole? Gets the ball in the first game of every playoff/WS? You can see I've become an optimistic fan probably because of the fact I can't log in often unless I'm at library.

Trades galore. Mr. Getz and his analytics crew must think our Sox are true contenders. Sox have become a real organization under Getz IMO. He's not a gangster but a "Getzster."

Make sure to tell him to be aggressive and make sure he gets what was promised. Some of these schools (I know nothing of Norberts) fail to come through once the kids arrive. Just my take. My cousin's kid was a good Catholic League linemen but quickly deduced it wasn't for him any more.

Is acquiring veteran players at the break actually a winning formula for the second half of the season or merely an outdated baseball cliche? Why would a team need to add anybody if it's already doing great? Maybe try to steal a reliever for some stiff in Class A and cash but a real trade? Cmon.

Is your son still psyched for Norberts? My cousin's child was a stellar lineman at Marist and he chose one of the Wisconsin state schools like Whitewater or one of em. He only lasted a few weeks cause at some of the smaller schools it's not like the kids envisioned: perhaps the food isn't as good as expected and social life isn't as good as expected and the towns can be isolated. Also some schools "sign" kids and then wind up actually cutting them. Not saying Norberts will do any of that, just see how he makes it through fall camp and if his enthusiasm wanes. My cousin's child ended up moving back and trying out at St. Xav's then gave it up completely. Did u see the Rice kid won the high school home run derby? And the Royals took a Br Rice grad sixth in the entire MLB Draft? Wow. Rice is on fire. How's enrollment looking? Is Rice still a viable option for kids? I know our bball team looks like it's reverted back to mediocre at best after the amazing run of Conte and Fraser.

Don't forget ... the World Cup was here this time around so it's naturally going to be popular. After the World Cup it'll return to being a non watched sport in USA. Heck the Cup won't be back for what, 20 years? Although the women's World Cup could come soon and bring that excitement. As far as popularity, baseball seems to still pack stadiums. The all star game was a big deal as far as being sold out, same with the HR Derby night. If baseball truly was dead to fans, it'd show in attendance at the big events like playoffs, WS, all star game. That said baseball remains on life support because of analytics. The HR or nothing offenses are offensive to many. Strategy is dead. It's all about the HR or K. Pitchers all throw 98; nobody can go more than five innings. The pitch clock isn't working. Games are still too long. Games need to be like Banana Ball: 2 hour limit (in MLB I'd allow 2 hr, 20 minutes). NBA is now boring. High screen and drive and get hacked inside on layup tries or drive inside or pass inside and pass to a 3 point bomber. Last two minutes of games are so dull with all the time outs. That's what is killing college basketball too. NFL and college football have too many replays. College has become insufferable with the stoppages. At least NFL games are 3 hours max. College football now flirts with 3 hours 40 minutes. That is insanity. Soccer: Brutally boring. Megan Rapinoe turned a lot of people off with what seemed to be an anti-USA sentiment. WNBA: Too physical. Too controversial. All the headlines are about Clark getting beaten up and perceived jealousy of other WNBA players toward her and Sophie Cunningham. Tennis: Boring on the men's side because of their powerful serves keeping rallies to a minimum. Women's tennis is pretty exciting on TV. Golf: Believe it or not, made for TV if a guy you like is in contention. WIth all these no name golfers it also it dull though. Bowling: Addictive but I don't think it's on TV anymore. Hockey: One of the best sports to watch in person. "Bobby Hull ... A shot and a goal" - cut Lloyd Pettit.

If he likes the bunt that can be a postseason killer, playing for one run here and there rather than letting Muni, Vargas, Colson, Beni, etc do some lifting and pulling.

All we need is pitching, right? However, I've said it before and will say it again. We've had so many pleasant surprises or pleasant performances from guys in the everyday lineup aren't we set there? Even Peters is hitterish. The two Montgomerys are a delight and my faves like Antonini and Meidroth and Vargas are dandy. Our catchers named Teel can hit (bring up Quero please and send the other guy down). Even Beni is hitterish and you wait, he'll be one of our postseason heroes when we beat the Yanquis. Muni is such a great find. He is legit star. This may seem outlandish but I don't even think we need pitching. Not in this day and age. Trading for a starter? Dumb cause they only go 5 1/3 anyway. Just keep getting the most out of this staff and continue to develop our young studs. It's amazing how legit the Sox have become (cue the Vargas blast in all star game). I don't want to derail this thread but I even love Getz now. He's proven he has a clue. That sweep of the A's was nice and makes me think I should purchase mlb and start learning more about this ballclub which lost me during the tank. Peace out.

Before when I was able to post (I can only post when I am in an establishment using their internet; mine won't take me to soxtalk successfully) I was considered somebody who knows very little about baseball. I wrote: "Vargas might be what Moncada wanted to be. He's young and looks good in a uniform. Getz called him one of the brightest young bats in the game. This trade might be OK cause those guys the Sox gave up were nothing to lose sleep over. Sox are due to have a prospect excel. Maybe Vargas will be the answer in the corner outfield." You gotta admit I was spot on. Vargas is hitterish and is doing well. How bout that bomb in the all star game?

Any comments about the ending to the St. Rita state title baseball game? Did the catcher have the ball in his mitt long enough? Should the game have ended there? Can you believe Rita shrugged off the blunder and won it anyway? As far as football Harry and Sox2023 is Rice favored to beat Lincoln Way East? Any good transfers coming in? Is that quarterback back and that good lineman? Finally ... my grade school is closed by the diocese. anybody know what happened to queen of martyrs? I have fond memories of grade school followed by 2 years at BR. Lipman do u still follow Rice sports or not interested? Did u enjoy your years there?

I'm ecstatic Sox have won five of last six vs KC I think. Sox have put themselves in position to do what I've been clamoring for them to do for years: That is dominate a weak Central. Sox have so many good young hitters I like the team. I am now a huge Getz fan even though our pitching isn't as good as our hitting. ... It feels weird to be able to post again. After so many months of not being able to log on, I feel I will definitely be way more low key than when I knew a lot about our players/pitchers. I'm not qualified yet to comment much on personnel as I've only watched mlb highlights and not bought the package for 3 seasons now.

This is one of those games that used to (tank years don't count; those are a different animal) send us spiraling. Remember how we could always point to one game that wrecked our team and sent us to series loss after loss? I'm not worried about that with this team. They are young and dumb so to speak and won't let any one game send us spiraling. Tough loss though.

Thanks for the info; i appreciate it. I just have never wanted to go to south america. I've traveled to most of the states in USA but only London overseas plus Canada of course. I just picture myself like the guys in Hangover One. I could see me getting thrown in a trunk of a car or be missing 3 days and tortured. I feel like I should stay put. KU is playing in Vegas this year so I might go to the tourney even tho vegas is now a ripoff IMO.

I hate soccer but this certainly was a good time for the World Cup to be here. Even though the networks aren't covering it this way, fans love the US men's team as opposed to the women's team with all the controversy. Soccer receives a big boost in USA with all the goodwill vidos on social media from foreign guests who love the USA and the fans sticking around to sing "country roads" after our wins. I despise soccer but I want Team USA to win and if somehow they get to the semifinals or finals ... wow. Soccer baby will be the new thing in USA. Only reason it wouldn't is if this was just a one-timer with the World Cup here. With it not coming back anytime soon it's possible soccer reverts back. GO USA. GO SOX. Beat Belgium.
