  1. This is a pretty good post, at the very least compelling and thought provoking. He certainly treated many people poorly, very poorly. Seems in his inner circle and to charities, etc., he was a gem of a human. Trash person? Open to discussion. I would tend to agree with your second paragraph more than disagree with it. Bully? For sure. Flat out bad person? Maybe. Somebody who did a lot of good things. Yes. Somebody who did a lot of bad things? Yes. Complex. But your post is certainly worthy of discussion. I wouldn't disagree with your basic point/premise.
  2. I just turned the game on to see two Phils have no chance on strike three in the dirt. Modern baseball. HR or K. The second out of the inning was flat out embarrassing, guy swung at a pitch that fell 3 feet in front of the plate.
  3. Good take on what it'll take to finish .500. The problem of course is we still have Pedro. Major problem there. Your pitching points make sense. But we still have a bullpen that will cost the Sox dearly after the fifth inning. Sox have no MLB caliber relievers except for Liam. The position player points you make look good. My take is Tim, Yoan, Eloy, Robert, Vaughn and Salvy might be salvageable no pun intended but without a new manager forget it. These guys will show up at spring training and see silent, overmatched Pedro and basically give up at that point. He' that bad. Just my take. Maybe acquiring Salvy will help negate the Pedro factor.
  4. He is really locked in. Quite a postseason for Jose.
  5. Remember back in the day the playoffs were such a big deal fans would never leave early in Game 7 even in a rout? They left early tonight!
  6. Could one of you chicagoans tell me how to get from Naperville to champaign, Illinois via car? How do I catch I 57 from Diehl Road in Naperdale? Is it an annoying/dangerous drive or ? Thank u much.
  7. Hey Harry, I enjoy following h.s. football. I know not many on here care but I did have an observation about BR. I watched last night's doubling-up of Rita and I will give coach Q credit. I can't think of any level of football where having two QBs trade off (each get a possession then immediately switch for the next possession) actually works. It's always a disaster and the coach finally picks one. Rice has used the two QB shuffle all season and last night it actually worked better than it has all season. The two BR QBs each bring something different. I'm still not a fan of two QBs but coach Q did get this team to the point the two QB system appears to be OK, pretty efficient in fact of late. They got a playoff berth and considering the difficulty of BR schedule, the team could conceivavbly start peaking with that strong running back who is headed to Navy and maybe make a run. Probably not but the h.s. kids played hard for Q last night for sure. Rita got hit with a sledgehammer. I actually think Rita prolly would win a rematch. Fraser is coming to my town for something in January and I hope to hook up with him and meet him and talk BR and UNC. We have some friends in common. Peace out, sorry for boring non h.s. football fans but I enjoy following BR's fortunes every fall/early winter. I'm actually going to be in town next weekend and may check out the Rice playoff game, prolly not if it's at some weird location and not 99th and P.
  8. I find it easy to root for them cause of Jose. Sox clearly thought he was washed up. He's had some really key hits and I think four homers in 9 games. Sox coulda paid Jose and got rid of TA and Moncada before this disastrous season to save $$.
  9. Jose 12 RBI this postseason. He's a winner, folks. Go Astros and Jose!
  10. Same here. No Royals for me. No Cubs for me. If they moved to Vegas I'd still follow the Sox. If they moved anywhere else, no way. I have been to Vegas so many times and know my way around there that it feels familiar to me. I watched so little baseball this season I'm no longer well versed in the game. I used to watch so much baseball. It's a pity the Sox ineptitude did this to me and other Sox fans. The Sox formula to lose fans has been so dramatic: first getting rid of Hawk (albeit he was getting old), then hiring Tony (although Tony looks like a genius getting these stiffs to play .500), then of course getting rid of Jose and hiring Pedro which is simply absurd and now Getz which is a monumental mistake. So we're stuck with this organization that can't even compete in the Central. Wow. p.s. The powers that be also ruined baseball for me. Home run or bust. Starting pitchers can't go through the order 3 times, only 2; the Paul Konerko adjusting the velcro every pitch (til they went with the clock thank God); and the insane amount of injuries in the game today.
  11. Jose MVP!!! Another 3 run homer. .... Good move, White Sox. He was over the hill ... yeah right. Congrats Jose, keep it going!
  12. I'm torn on Eloy being special. I know injuries are the wildcard with him. But his body of work suggests he's too brittle.
  13. Not with the current manager. I wonder if the Sox can acquire some decent bullpen guys. If not it might be more valuable to go with openers and 3 inning max guys. Cease and Clevinger might be pretty nasty in the 3-inning role. Sox have got to get some guys who can pitch 3-4 effective innings.
  14. Thanks for the update on hitting in the playoffs. I truly am not following the baseball postseason. Baseball has pretty much lost my interest after decades of zealousness. Like my teachers used to say if you feel that way, rest assured somebody else does too, thus i suspect baseball is declining in interest postseason-wise and soon it'll be like pro soccer. Baseball has a lotta problems, folks. Of course one of the biggest problems is the joke called the White Sox. p.s. what's going on with the pitching? Are starters making it through the fifth?
  15. True. That's why I never wanted a tank/rebuild. Get in the playoffs and see what happens.
  16. Can anybody who watches postseason baseball fill me in? Have the teams that are successful been playing "modern baseball?" i.e. the lift and pull thing where you win if you hit more HRs than the foe? Has this been happening or is anybody playing old style ball? Running, singles gappers? As far as pitching, are all the teams playing the 5 inning game for starters then turning to 4-5 relievers? I haven't watched anything except 2 innings of an Arizona game and I think all the D-backs hitters struck out during the stint I watched. Or most of 'em. It looked like the same ol modern boring ball. HRs are not that exciting folks. They are OK but again, let's change the rules and have four innings of HR derby to conclude games and 5 innings of actual ball. I did notice in the 2 innings I've watched that the batters for the most part were staying in the box and the pitch clock seemed dandy. One guy did step out surprisingly and did the Konerko glove routine. Weird.
  17. Pulling for Jose all the way. Go Houston.
  18. Glad to read this. One of the first posts suggesting things 'could' change quickly. Hopefully the Sox have a plan and will attack it right away once the WS ends. If this plan means acquiring Whit and Salvy right away, that to me is absurd. Maybe they think Sox just have to have these two 'winners' who in contrast to that belief lost a zillion games for pathetic teams in KC.
  19. Hi Bob, I meant and prolly wrote it poorly that the Royals should demand Montgomery and one of Cease/Eloy if they figure the Sox are that desperate to get Salvy. If our manager wants Salvy this badly, KC should demand Monty and somebody else that's allegedly good. Obviously I don't want Salvy or Whit. I'd take Massey though.
  20. I mean I'd be all for Salvy as manager. He's obviously got a clue. But he's old, slow and another guy who gets hurt. Whit is just another guy. Pass on him. At least Massey is younger with some southside pride. He's no star but could hold the fort at 2B til the Sox get their act together. From the Royals side ... Royals should ask for that one stud we have in the minors is his name Montgomery (?) and also Eloy or Cease, one of the two, take a chance on Eloy/Cease if we are dumb enough to go for Salvy. Make them throw in Massey and if Sox have to they can throw in one of our hack relievers. BTW, Sox were so dumb years ago to not keep Semien. He woulda been a huge part of our infield and with he and Abreu and the old Timmy the Sox might have had something. Also maybe it would make Moncada play harder with Semien, Abreu and the old TA his infield partners. Sox can't judge talent. Semien is/was GOOD.
  21. Salvy is not a good addition. Pedro wants him for leadership huh? His leadership couldn't help KC escape patheticness the last 2 seasons. Please get rid of Pedro. Geez. How dumb do they think their ticket buyers are. You don't fork over money to see Pedro-ball. Say no to Whit as well. If Sox do get Salvy, they are getting an old guy who is not fast anymore and doubtful he'll hit 30 homers even in the Cell. I'd rather have Mike Massey than Whit.
  22. Fans are fans. I'm sure they are thrilled with Jose now. Mr. October indeed. He still had 90 RBI in the regular season. Hit .237. They shouldn't care about a stat like batting average which means nothing. He drew 42 walks. 130 strikeouts is high but not in 2023, Go Jose, keep it up in postseason sir!
  23. I like anything that makes Jose look good. Wish I felt the same about any current White Sox. To be honest there's not one Sox player I'd defend against attacks on here. And not one coach. Just Steve Stone. I still 'worship' him in a non religious sense. Not as high on Jason B. Go Jose!!
  24. Ha ... my guy Abreu homered again tonight. And the Sox wouldn't resign him and tons of fans were ready for him to leave. Result, Sox 101 losses; Astros happy! Way to go Jose Abreu! You sir are a 'winner' advanced stats be darned.
  25. Abreu slugs two homers, five RBIs even though RBIs don't matter in the analytics era. Ha. Way to let him go, White Sox. Your locker room by all accounts was a mess this season and Jose clutch as usual. Never smart business to let go a fan favorite for no reason. Sox really replaced him well, lol. 101 losses. Hope Astros win a title for Jose.
