  1. Not too hot. I watched the Rice-Mt. Carmel game tonight. Rice got slugged 42-7. I will NEVER criticize high school kids as they are kids not getting paid and are trying. That being said coach Q is using two QBs and letting them each play a series, rotating. That's never worked on any level. Rice was down 28-0 and the public address announcer told the fans to quit making negative comments. I forget the word he used. Damn I wish I could remember it. It wasn't 'negative' it was something like 'derogatory.' He actually told the fans to behave better. He said 'this is high school football.' I'm assuming the fans were booing coach Q. Vanilla offense. Not our night in any way. I fear this is the year no playoffs. Team is 3-3 heading into Nazareth. After that Rita and somebody else. Got to go 2-1 to get in. Mt. Carmel QB is amazing. Mt. Carmel had big linemen. Unfortunately if Rice played 'em 10 times we'd lose all 10. Harry ... will coach Q stick around for the long haul? Rice is 3-3 and trending downward. Didn't see a lot of talent out there tonight. That said as always i appreciate the effort of the kids. The ain't getting paid and are trying. It just seems futile.
  2. Another good post. The only good thing about being a Sox fan right now is many of u on the board are smart peeps regarding the Sox.
  3. I guess I wrote it wrong. I want all new coaches and a new manager to coach 'em up. I don't want Getz but it's too late. I was being sarcastic about them possibly being successful in the draft while yes demanding the picks they get work out. ... No I don't want a rebuild. I consider the guys we are trading to be worth very little. I want to get rid of Moncada and TA and Eloy. ... It may look like a tank/rebuild but we don't have the current assets to deal in a tank/rebuild. I am advocating just normal trades of average players in TA, Moncada and Eloy.
  4. This post is useless. Why? Sox have no assets to trade that would support a tank/rebuild. Moncada, TA and Eloy and Cease are not going to bring enough in. I am in favor of getting rid of TA and Moncada, sure. But a tank/rebuild will not work this time. You aren't going to get much for either TA or Moncada, folks. Eloy 'might' bring something useful in the rebuild mode. Moncada is a player nobody with a brain wants. Cease walks too many batters to bring back a ton of useful rebuild assets. The Sox blew it by hiring Getz and hiring Pedro. The only way out of this is to have competent baseball people made a couple trades, coach up the few good players we have in the minors, draft well (lol Sox don't draft well) and try to get back to .500 which will let u compete in the laughable Central Division. A tank/rebuild? I'd rather the Sox move or be contracted from the league.
  5. Me too. I actually want us to lose 100. It's been that bad a season. Wear it Sox. Sox were so bad they are making this an unbearable winter cause we have nothing to look forward to sports wise in the spring. Sox are going to be even worse than this season after they trade the underachievers TA and Moncada and Eloy. Vaughn and Salvy will be our lineup leaders. Yikes.
  6. Can't believe we won with 3 hits. 23,000 fans?? Cmon how is that possible. Little April Fools joke a few months past April?
  7. 60-98? Wow. Who would have thought the team will lose 100 games and only win 60 or 61. Couple of comments. ... -- Despite the lack of talent on the team, Pedro must be let go after the final game of the season. Give him a trophy for having to coach this oft-injured, bad fundamental bunch. But he needs to go far away. It's INEXCUSABLE to let him stay after an 100 loss season. Cmon. This is Bevington-ish. -- Sox must SOMEHOW win trades for Anderson, Moncada and Eloy and Cease. The future of the team depends on it. Next year figures to be a 50-win season. The year after, if the Sox get good players in those trades and actually sign some GOOD free agents, the team could be .500 by 2016 and maybe a winner after that. I see no way this club is anything but awful in 2014, 2015. It might show a little progress in 2016, like maybe finish 8-10 under .500. 2017 better be a winner. Bring in Joe Maddon for gawd sakes. Somebody like Dusty Baker. Anybody but Pedro. Why would you want Pedro to coach the abysmal teams of 2014 and 2015? Bring in somebody the baseball world respects. Get Francona to un-retire. Wish we could get Rob Thomson.
  8. Thank goodness they got an F and are being called out. The White Sox are doing a great job in only one regard: Turning longtime multi decade "lifelong fans" into people who no longer care about their passion, White Sox baseball. They've turned many many fans into front runners. It used to be we loved our Sox thru thick and thin. Now ... wake us up when you actually have gotten your bleep together and have a contender. Worst season in Sox history with little hope for the rest of the decade. Thanks Sox (sarcastic) ... you made me not care. They make no effort to keep one likeable player in Abreu and then for some reason trade the semi-loveable Burger whose name truly fit that pudgy loveable face.
  9. Sox had an 80% chance of winning after inning one. How stupid are those odds during games. The Sox lost 15-4 for geez sake. Eloy elevated. I guess that's good. Man, the Sox stink. Worst team in many of our lifetimes bar none. Utterly awful ballclub.
  10. I wonder if Sox brass has talked to the Bears yet. The Bears probably want their own property/stadium, but it'd be intriguing to have them both out there in Arlington. That'd be a good scoop for Nightengale if he could find out if Bears and Sox have spoken at least.
  11. If they move to Arlington (why not Naperville instead?) they'll definitely have a suburban flavor to them. I'd think the diehard loyal south siders won't go out to Arlington much if ever to see the Sox. I would think the Cubs would love the Sox moving out there. They'd have everybody in Chicago proper coming to Wrigley IMO. I would guess true South Siders would be very upset and would not go out to Arlington. But again, suburbia is enough to average 30,000 a game me thinks.
  12. I haven't lived in Chicago in a ton of years but isn't the U-Center neighborhood kind of dangerous? I thought that part of town was kind of old and crime ridden. Am I wrong here? Is the U-Center area safe and thriving? And as far as being convenient for city folks ... to get to the U-Center is a pretty long annoying drive from the far south side and suburbia isn't it? I think the Sox frankly should move to the suburbs. They'd do well there once people got used to it. No offense to Chicago natives but if they wanna go to a Sox game they can drive out to Arlington Park. There are enough folks in the suburbs to support the team IMO especially if they build a palace of a ballpark.
  13. Finally some good news. First good news re. the White Sox in a long while.
  14. Good to see Cease not walk anybody. Some of these Sox do have talent (I think). Good to see him pitch well.
  15. Spencer hit 18 hrs and drove in 69 runs in 470 at bats for the south side hit men in 77. He hit some mammoth shots that year like almost all the Sox. Spencer hit more than a couple off the facade in RF. Soderholm hit 25 of his 102 career hrs in 77. He also consistently crushed the ball that year.
  16. I was so against drafting him but learned to like him. Typical White Sox to trade their only player close to being loveable so to speak. Robert is sensational but not loveable yet cause of all the injuries he incurs. Somebody said Burger has cut down his strikeouts with Marlins. I wish strikeouts now were what they were back in the day. If you struck out in a game you felt like an utter failure. If you got two strikes on you at the plate you choked up or at least concentrated on putting the damn ball in play. Not now, KKKK.
  17. This post says it all. The Sox prolly are convinced they need Salvy to save the clubhouse.
  18. Is Lee an automatic out? Does the guy have any potential to hit say .210 much less .310?
  19. Beni is short for 'mediocre ballplayer.' I'd rate him 4.5 out of 10. I see Vaughn is up to .270. It's 'possible' if he can learn to elevate more he becomes an average to above average MLB hitter. I'd say right now the only Sox who have a moderately bright future with the team are: Robert, Clevinger, Vaughn. In the group of players who would shock me but have a 20 percent chance of being above average: Eloy, Kopech (can't believe I put Kopech). That's it folks. I've given up on Moncada and TA. Dump them. And clean house in the bullpen again. Get rid of all those folks.
  20. I agree. He's got to go. I do think we can get a good haul for him as he figures to thrive outside of Chicago with a real manager.
  21. Hmmm Chiefs are minus 12.5 on the spread. I realize NFL games tend to be close but this has the makings of a true rout. The over-under is 47.5. I would tell you to bet the house on Chiefs and the over. It will be something like 38-14 Chiefs. Bears will be 0-3 and that is not good. No way the Chiefs are going to open 1-2 with 2 home losses. And no way the Bears will stop Mahomes. Just my take. By the way I am not a Chiefs fan. I've lived out here forever but maintained my Chicago roots in sports. It's hard to change when u grew up in Chicago and loved those teams as a kid. I am quiet and neutral in regard to Chiefs. If Bears can't win it, fine if the Chiefs do but I don't actively root.
  22. Not to derail the conversation and stir up the masses, but I think Harry changed a bit and became even more of a jerk toward the tail end of his Sox tenure. I realize he was huge when he got to Chicago being the famous voice of the Cards and had a name and ego before he got to the south side but me thinks he got worse in the ego department in Chitown where he was the mayor of Rush Street. My dad's partner at the Board of Trade was one of many of the Sox ownership group until he died and my dad had occasion to be around Harry a lot postgame in the Bard's Room. Back in the day for worse more than better people drank their butts off after games even if they had to drive. There was little concern about repercussions of driving while bombed. I guess Harry was hard to tolerate after a certain amount of drinks/beers/whatever. Not trying to disparage Harry. I loved the guy. I remember my friends and I would send a note up to Harry during games (remember he'd read on the air you were at the game if u sent up a note) and he'd announce we were there. People actually would notice if Harry read your name and tell me they heard I was at the game and it was neat of him to read fans notes on the air. We did it like clockwork. My dad had season tix in the fifth row and would give me four tickets as he sat somewhere else with his partner and I'd go with 3 friends. Before getting seated we'd always have the guard send our note up to Harry with a little line or joke on there. "Falstaff forever" or "We love Zisk" on there or something. He'd read those messages on the air. That was Harry. The fan broadcaster. Any how my dad ultimately followed the lead of JR and the minority owners who despised Harry at the end. My dad would simply say 'what a jerk' when I'd quiz him on Harry. As a fan though I never wavered. I loved him. I remember one rain delay he and Jimmy tore the Sox apart while killing time. It was brutal. Harry would have attacked this team big time. Rest in peace Harry you shoulda been a Sox announcer forever like Hawk.
  23. Harry was so popular in Chicago he might have been the spark some of the Sox needed to wake up and play to their potential. He would have been relentlessly bashing them and those players would have heard it from the fans too. Harry would have destroyed Moncada and TA and would have wondered aloud many times about all the injuries from running,
  24. No I don't foresee things changing under Getz. Yes, teams can continue to stink for many many years in a row as we look at the Bears and even the Blackhawks since the dynasty. I do get upset thinking about tanking even though like you all said Sox figure to stink whether they tank or not. Let's say the plan is to quietly tank and try to build a winner for 2027 or so. To tank you'd have to trade your best players for developing young stars. Who on the Sox is of any great value, to bring in the type of players to fuel a tank job? I don't think Moncada brings much; Anderson probably brings a respectable tank type haul. Vaughn probably brings what Burger brought. Sheets brings u nothing. I would think you have to keep Clevinger and Robert just to make sure you draw an average of 18,000 fans a game and win about 40 games total. So the tank job means rebuilding through the next 3 drafts? I'm not thrilled by that prospect. Personally I would get a real manager from somewhere, even Joe Maddon, and see if that lineup the Sox used the other night (plus Colas) when they got 15 hits and 6 runs, coupled with the usual Sox-like offseason additions can find a way to compete in the pathetic Central Division. In conclusion ... I envision a tank as trying to acquire studs for Anderson, Moncada (ha) and Cease (ha), get those acquisitions ready, acquire No. 1 draft picks the next three seasons and win with the tank work completed by the 2027 season. Can't see it working especially with Getz. In greg's world ... fire Pedro, hire Maddon or somebody like him, coach 'em all up and have many more nights like the other night against the Twins when they got 15 hits and won 7-1 or 6-1 whatever it was. p.s I've yet to read an intelligent post on how a tank will work this time around.
  25. Sorry this team's direction angers me.
