  1. QUOTE (Stocking @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) here's a dumb question, can i eat too much fruit and vegtables? I snack on baby carrots and bananas like crazy. I know fruits are high in sugar, so more so the veg. I thought this question was crazy at first. But then I became intrigued and did some light research. From what I gathered, it is possible to take in too much fruit. As you know, there is quite a bit of sugar in most fruits. You should try to limit your fruit servings to 3-5 per day (I don't go over 5). I couldn't find anything about taking in too many veggies. So I'll assume you can eat all the veggies you want.
  2. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) That's awesome J4L! I'm glad I was able to help in some way. I may have to lean on you some now as I have hit a wall and can't seem to break through it. Between work stress and hours, I just haven't been consistent either in diet or in working out and have to find a way. I'm hovering between 255-260 and really want to get down to 225 at least. I need to do so because I still plan on running a half marathon in Evansville in October. That's 30-35 lbs will make a huge difference. Anytime@Rex. I got your back anytime.
  3. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 01:30 AM) Making absolute zero sense in the process.... 1. Nothing has happened to assume Quentin won't play the rest of the year. A post all star game return should be expected. Him staying healthy after that is anyones guess, but assuming Quentin is gone for the rest of the year is nothing more than a guess by you, seeing as no time tables given by the White Sox suggest that. 2.Kenny trading young, valuable pieces for a 3 month stop gap. Again, just because they haven't come out and slapped you in the face with a rebuild project, that is what is currently happening to the team. Trading away pieces to that rebuild project for a guy guaranteed to test the free agent market isn't a receipt for long term success. And two draft picks aren't as value for guys like Poreda and Hudson. 3. You want Williams to trade for a player that has backed up all the Holliday doubters by posting an .800 OPS this season, his first out of Coors. I know because you saw him for 3 games against the Sox you fell in love, but he has been a slightly above average major league OF at this point, and still is going to command a hefty price not only at the deadline, but once he becomes a free agent. The only major deal Williams should make is one that will include a player that can fit into the core for the next few years. I fully expect him to be looking for that, but if it doesn't present itself, the Sox will most likely stand pat, see what they can do with what is currently on the roster and in the system, and continuing developing for the next few years, when they actually should be contenders. +1 Tony. There isn't a single word of this post that I don't agree with.
  4. Just noticed that Hudson made BA's prospect hotsheet last Friday. The bold is soooooo nice to hear. Was it really just a few years ago that Lance Broadway and Ryan Sweeney were our top pitching/hitting prospects?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Man, how good has Tommy Hanson been? He's been pretty solid. He's been a little lucky. He's walking too many guys. And I think today was the first time he's gone at least 6 innings. But the stuff is undeniable
  6. Just saw that Mariano Rivera picked up his 500th career save. I know it's fashionable to hate all things Yankees. But that dude is the best RP ever! There's not even a debate, IMO.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Danks might not rhyme with Ace, but it’s damn close enough. I don’t know when that change went from plus to phenomenal, but it’s incredible now. I was chattin' with some Cubs fans at a bar just a few hours ago. I was wearing a Sox hat. So it wasn't hard to put two and two together. They asked me "How the hell did your GM swindle not one but two all-star caliber pitchers for crap?" They were obviously talking about Danks and Floyd. It was kinda strange. We tend to take our own team's players, managers and GM's for granted. But when you hear fans of other teams talk about your GM in that way, it's a good feeling. I hope KW is around until he simply wants to quit. He's earned that and then some.
  8. Am I the only one that thinks it is pretty pathetic how fickle our attendance is? It's bothered me for years.
  9. I'll wait for something a little more official. But it's about to get real ugly pretty soon. Pedro? Wow. Well forget about his 1999-2000 seasons being the most dominant I've seen in my 18 years as a hardcore baseball fan if this is legit.
  10. Pretty much knew coming into the season that defense would be a season-long issue. Other than Konerko and to a lesser extent Dye, it's been pretty bad. And this isn't even getting into the chronic problem we have when it comes to holding and throwing out runners.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) If the Cardinals get Holliday and Carpenter stays healthy, they immediately become the favorites in the NL...maybe in baseball...to win it all. I'd still go with the Dodgers. With a healthy Manny they really don't have a legitimate weakness. I also expect the Phillies to make a move for starting pitching. They've got a pretty loaded farm. So I see something happening with them soon.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 07:22 AM) I've been Pods biggest critic, but you can't say a guy hitting .320 driving the ball a lot, knocking in big runs, and playing much better defensively than he ever played as a White Sox before isn't starting quality for a contender. Sure he still gets picked off a lot. He overslides bases and gets called out and he can't believe the umpire would call it, but he is playing at a higher level than he played when he was leading off for a world championship team. And that's big coming from you. Other than Capn12, ain't nobody around here ripped Pods like you have the last few years. To say anything that could even be mistaken as negativity towards Pods the way he's playing right now is to simply admit you blindly dislike the guy and will trash him no matter what he does. Pods isn't all that talented. Anybody can see that. But when he's healthy, he's produced.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 07:38 AM) Chris Perez had a few shots in the show and didn't really show much. Cards stole DeRosa. Bet PTBNL is Barden or someone like that. I like the trade for both teams. The Cardinals were dealing from a position of strength. They've got plenty of quality RF relief. I don't think it was a case of them giving up on Perez. He's only 23 and has filthy stuff. His K/9 rates have always been impressive. His problem has always been walks. If he can ever get his BB/9 down, the Indians will have landed a serious young stud (with closer potential). OT: I love how Cubs fans are ripping Jim Hendry to shreds over this deal. I think Hendry is a below average GM. But what the hell could he have offered Cleveland that would've topped Chris Perez? And we don't even know who the PTBNL is.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) I told you guys it wouldn't be the Cubs. They can't add a damned penny in payroll right now. That and their farm is as barren as any in baseball outside of maybe the Astros.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 02:28 AM) Pods is doing much better than expected, but he should not be a starter on a contending team. Then neither should Konerko, Dye, Thome, AJ or anybody else on this team. Considering Pods has been the best player on the team for well over a month now.
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) The offense hasn't been looking that bad recently, but on the field, we've looked like a little league team. This is a bad defensive team. They fail the eye test and the statistic/metric test.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Cincinnati is close (Willy Tavares). But no. He was playing so well before that 1 for 46 funk.
  18. QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) It was another horrible move by Ozzie against the Cubs. Marmol was shaky at best, and it would have been a nice way for Castro to contribute something to the team. As it is, he's probably wondering why the heck we traded for him, since he hasn't played at all. So far, I consider Ozzie to have lost both Cubs games with bad managing moves. We should be 4-0 against them. It's Ozzie's fault Getz botched a routine play and Linebrink took a big wet dump in his pants last week?
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Very true. Great win. We'd have bemoaned the errors had we lost. But we didn't. We won. Love the fact Nix didn't whiff and took the walk and Beckham showed great poise and guts and you got to love the fact he drilled it to the opposite field. It was funny how he was running away from AJ. I was thinking they were going to dogpile him. Great inning from Bobby. Great hit by Beckham to win it. Glad we finished it in nine. Extra innings mighta been tough. If Bob had to go another inning he might not be available Sunday. And if he didn't go the 10th, Liney might have gotten lit up. Victory is sweet. Go get drunk. Too late.
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Well he was rushed. But I'm glad we are giving him consistant at-bats to learn this. Still wished we saw more of the gap-to gap machine of Slayer from college to the whole minors, but that last at-bat, opposite field hit.. is nice to see from him. I'm not even talking about today. But his at bats for the most part have been solid. That's the main thing I wanted to see. The hits will come.
  21. And I want to take this time to fully admit I was wrong about Beckham. Not just because of today. He's more than proven he belongs.
  22. Ladies and gentlemen, that was Gordon f***in' Beckham. I haven't been this hype after a win in quite some time.
  23. I'll never doubt the Sox for calling this stud up again!
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...1&mode=wrap Thanks.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Where's D'Angelo Jimenez when you need him? Nice reference. Even though we came up short, 2003 was one of my favorite years as a Sox fan.
