What are the Sox trying to do here, really?
they’ve stopped denying who they really are, which is good. not that anyone should be encouraged or optimistic about it.

After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP

After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP
in listening to this, it sounded like dan evans told them dan evans was going to talk to jerry. i'm fine with an informational interview to get a perspective on the org from someone who worked somewhere else, but otherwise, no thanks.

Morrissey on JR...
it's a very good piece and does an excellent job of underscoring the hopelessness of it all. being bad is one thing, but being bad and unwilling or able to change makes it substantially worse. their solution seems to be to turn more inward and double down on strategies that have proven to be unsuccessful. it's maddening.

Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance
b-/c+ they added some interesting arms and hopefully have given themselves a few in-house catching options. the system is improved, which was needed. I’d have liked more but they’re going to hold onto this contention delusion. it’s bizarre.

Fire Rick Hahn
given the budget parameters that hahn would know better than anyone, the money spent on and attention paid to bullpen pieces is straight-up malpractice. all the while just letting two positions essentially get filled for multiple seasons by below league average has-beens or never will bes. he has two examples in his bullpen this year why you should never, ever do that. and he did it multiple seasons. ffs

5/6 Sox @ Reds 5:40PM CT - NBCSCH
hospitalized with abdominal pain. ffs

Fire Rick Hahn
i'm sure this has been well-covered elsewhere, but by far my biggest beef with hahn is how he squanders the already small resources he has. he came up through this org so he knows as well as anyone that second-place jerry isn't going to give him a big-boy budget. and yet he consistently spends the small amount of money he does have poorly. the bullpen expenditures are mind-numbing when year-in, year-out we see teams create great bullpens out of nothing. there's zero need to make that where all your cash sits. it's just dumb.

The Pedro Hire
it would have been great if all the sox ills could have been rectified with one kick-ass spring training. probably not very realistic, though. the problems we saw last year are still the problems the team has, because the org didn't change very much from a player perspective. none of that means this can't look better at some point. if this is what we get all year then you probably have to question the hire.

i’m not pulling the alarm eight games in but hfs does this team make it hard.
