  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) I've never even seen Star Wars and think that's pretty cool. Why people are poo pooing on the idea is beyond me. Not one of the 6 they made ? I know you've seen Harry Potter.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) Today around 2pm CST they ran a pretty lengthy talk on this subject. Unfortunately I was out to lunch with the damned channel playing... no sound thou. Anyone else catch this that can give a summary of what was said? They talked about whether to use TNT, dynamite, plastic explosives , hand grenades or the A-Bomb.
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) Just the other day I was thinking "you know, Jose isn't that bad, but he's only a really hot couple months from getting back to superstar territory". Let's hope that has started. 15 hits? Color me impressed. Way to improve your trade value, Shark. Jose on another hitting streak. 8 games now hitting .412 during it.
  4. Welcome aboard rook. Now get my bags.
  5. 3 straight games with 10 or more hits. Abreu with 4 to get back to .300. Eaton with 3 . Melky with 2 more. Soto with 2. 6 doubles . Still took 15 hits to get just 6 runs but baby steps in the right direction. The Sox 1st win at MN. this year. Good pitching and defense. Melky/Ramirez threw out a runner at home and Soto caught Buxton stealing.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) At the time of the trade what was Brock Holt doing ? Just curious. I looked it up . He was repeating AAA and was 25 and had a fairly non-descript season. The Davidson trade was December of 2013 . In 2014 Holt was 26 and started playing very well at Pawtucket and after being called up was making headlines becoming a BoSOx mini legend fielding well anywhere they put him and making spectacular catches ( at least in the OF ). This year his age 27 season he's hitting .318 , OBP over .400 and just hit for the cycle last week. Hindsight ,I know, but wonder if the Red Sox had any interest in Reed. Holt went from a fringy prospect to solid ML contributor between his age 25 and 26 seasons.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) I have no idea, but neither do you and you are assuming Davidson was the best offer for him. If that was the case, and the White Sox knew what Matt Davidson would be, I am guessing they don't make that trade. At one point teams were saying he was not available, so as crazy as it seems, I think they could have received a player who would contribute at the major league level for his services. At the time of the trade what was Brock Holt doing ? Just curious.
  8. Yea just leave Danks in to save the bullpen for nothing Robin instead of taking him out when the game was still within reach.
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) Put Junior in please Has he pitched at all since getting to the bigs ?
  10. Why am I feeling good with that ball hitting Torii ?
  11. Hell of a throw by Buxton but why should it even be close with a 2 out hit ? . The secondary lead should be huge once the pitcher delivers the ball.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) Get a life, Brian! But seriously... ...that sums it up. Didn't they make a movie about Brian's life ? Do you recall the Life of Brian ?
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) Sox win 1-0 tonight. Shark with the complete game shutout. If this actually happens buy lottery tickets .
  14. This team is screaming "fire Robin" whether he's at fault or not . Is it Reinsdorf doesn't want to pay his salary through his extension ? I'm at a loss. I keep telling myself maybe this year they will be 2nd half team but that would be quite some turnaround.
  15. Conn Smythe winner Duncan Keith. Well deserved. All lines made solid contributions. Total team championship !
  16. It's so strange how fate steps up to help. Crawford's puck handling blunder early in the 1st period not only doesn't cost a goal but injures Kucherov who arguably has been the biggest thorn in the Hawks side,
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) there is no freaking way he is worth 4 mil. however to pull that bluff, the sox better have an option ready, to replace him if he doesn't want to come back. Bluff ? There's been a lot of options the last few years the Sox coud've picked up off the scrap heap who could be just as effective as Flowers.
  18. Lots of good play by the 4th line, Versteeg, Vermette, Crawford, all the defensemen and Toewes and Hossa for their steady 2 way play.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) Was barbecuing chicken while watching game and man this was disappointing loss. I just got home from work and it does suck when Conor hits a bomb to give the Sox a late lead and the BP coughs it up. I see Putnam gave up 2 hits and a walk . Don't really understand why when its late in the game he's not pulled after allowing 2 base runners or even one when you have a whole bullpen full of guys you can play match up with an out at a time.
  20. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) It was definitely a year too early. There were too many holes in the team. Trying to scrape your way to the second wild card is not a good strategy. Build a sustainable winner. Actually it was repeatedly suggested on the likes of Fangraphs that the White Sox would not have a successful season despite all their signings. And if people predicted the Sox to have a poor season amongst vast predictions of a good season, they kind of deserve to say I told you so. Still don't understand the year too early comments. I know it's your opinion and all but is Sox management supposed to sit on its hands with an ideal situation in front of them ? They needed help and got help . With the rarity of Sox playoff appearances what's wrong with wanting to make the playoffs ? You can't fill every hole in one off season . They filled a few and who's to say they won't add even more next year or at the trade deadline. Maybe it's time you explained what you would've done this past off season with all the room to add salary and not having to give up a 1st rounder while also keeping in mind they have to put butts in the seats . What the Sox did was fine and it also stimulated the prospective season ticket buyers. If you think the Samardzija or other moves weren't good what should've the Sox added ? How much should the player payroll have been ? Hahn has repeatedly said they are trying to build a sustained winner . Were his moves contradictory to that sentiment ? He didn't sign anyone over 3 years except Robertson and it's quite possible that some of the Sox pitching prospects will come of age in that 1-3 year period adding to the sustainability.
  21. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) The projections didn't like us because we had huge offensive holes at catcher and second base, with question marks elsewhere, horrendous defence/baserunners and huge holes at 4 and 5 in the rotation and just an okay bullpen. I wouldn't say that's anything close to great on paper. I called it as an under .500 team preseason. I'd put that more on the fact that we've assembled a team of historically poor defenders/declining players rather than bad coaching. I don't think it was a year too early at all. Look at the parity in the league . Hovering around .500 puts you in the playoff picture. Any team 10 games over .500 at the end of the year probably makes the playoffs. The Sox now are trying to rely on having better defense to support the pitching with Beckham and Sanchez and LaRoche getting a bit more playing time at 1st. There are just certain times that a team that spends like the Sox have to show a clear effort to make major improvements and that was having a lot of room to add salary and the ability to do it without giving up a 1st round draft choice. Those situations do not come up often together. Make improvements along the way or finally be a 2nd half riser ,get in the playoffs and let the pitching carry us. It certainly wouldn't be the 1st time that's happened
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 07:21 AM) Three pitches, I think, is the ultimate requirement for consistently being able to pitch well deep into the game, because it gives you a weapon for the third time through the lineup. The other night we saw him go fastball/slider almost exclusively the first time through, start adding the change in tough spots the second time through (and honestly it didn't look real good at first), and then start to lean on the change as a wipeout the third time through (and it looked fantastic). I'm starting to wonder if there's a correlation between those "one bad inning" guys (like Edwin Jackson, John Danks, etc.) and the number of legitimate pitches they have. Maybe if you only have two good pitches, you're constantly going to be at risk for a meltdown the third time through the order. You know as well as I do that it's not just the pitches . It's the location and the difference in speed between them and how well you outfox the hitter. Not only making the hitter think about which pitch he's getting but in what location. Danks has enough pitches just not the command or the difference in speed between them.
