  1. QUOTE(Balance @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) It's unfortunate, but it's starting to look like season ticket holders are going to have to tell the people they give tickets to that it's for their own use, not for resale, and so on. It sucks that it has come to a situation like that one. And that sucks... what would ever give you the idea that someone else's season tickets are your commodities to sell again? You should know better, common sense should take over at that point. If the ST holder wanted to make money off of the tickets, why would they have given them to you at facevalue??? But its just like anything else now adays, people don't think of anyone but themselves.
  2. Posted on Tue, Aug. 09, 2005 M O R E N E W S F R O M • Archaeology • Science • Anthropology Biblical Pool of Siloam found JERUSALEM RESERVOIR OLD GATHERING PLACE By Thomas H. Maugh II Los Angeles Times Workers repairing a sewage pipe in the old city of Jerusalem have discovered the biblical Pool of Siloam, a freshwater reservoir that was a major gathering place for ancient Jews making religious pilgrimages to the city and the reputed site where Jesus cured a man blind from birth, according to the Gospel of John. The pool was fed by the now famous Hezekiah's Tunnel and is ``a much grander affair'' than archaeologists previously believed, with three tiers of stone stairs allowing easy access to the water, according to Hershel Shanks, editor of Biblical Archaeology Review, which reported the find Monday. ``Scholars have said that there wasn't a Pool of Siloam and that John was using a religious conceit'' to illustrate a point, said New Testament scholar James H. Charlesworth of the Princeton Theological Seminary. ``Now we have found the Pool of Siloam . . . exactly where John said it was.'' A Gospel that was thought to be ``pure theology is now shown to be grounded in history,'' he said. The discovery puts a new spotlight on what is called the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, a trip that religious law required ancient Jews to make at least once a year, said archaeologist Ronny Reich of the University of Haifa, who excavated the pool. ``Jesus was just another pilgrim coming to Jerusalem,'' he said. ``It would be natural to find him there.'' The newly discovered pool is less than 200 yards from another Pool of Siloam, this one a reconstruction built between AD 400 and 460 by the empress Eudocia of Byzantium, who oversaw the rebuilding of several biblical sites.
  3. But talking about it is about all they are doing... They aren't even wanting to refer this to the UN sercurity council. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/08/09...iaea/index.html
  4. Maybe if more people's infidelities became front page news, people would be a little more loyal...
  5. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) sad move, but the smart move no doubt That's the problem. It took him about a year to come back from this exact injury last time, so are we looking at another year? It is nice to be loyal and all, but can we afford to play a player who might not be able to play in 2006?

  7. That's classy. Kenny takes a picture for a fan, and someone calls out his loyalty to his wife.
  8. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) Thats the one. I still get chills when I think about it. HAR-OLD HAR-OLD HAR-OLD That is definately one of the games I remember the most from my childhood. Another big one was Dave Steib no hitting the Sox through 8 innings, and then having Rudy Law, Bryan Little, and Harold Baines hit consecutive HRs to start the 9th and having the Sox almost come from a 6-0 deficit to win in the 9th, but falling just short.
  9. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) For me it is a tie. The first game I do not remember what year it was 83-86 somewhere in there. I was very young. Sox were down by 2 in the ninth and Harold hit a 3-run roof-shot to win the game. The second is a little strange. It was when I drove up to Minnesota to see the Sox clinch in 2000. The game sucked so much ass. The sox lost by a walk-off homer my Stewart I think it was. But after the game all of the players gathered around us 500 fans or so and were spraying the fans the champainge and Pauly was ruuning around the bases with a beer in his hand. That was fun as hell. Was it against KC and off of Dan Quisenberry in the bottom of the 9th? If so I was at that game too. I still remember everyone chanting HAR-OLD as we exited the park. It was incredible.
  10. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) I hope so... i mean i'd hate to give both of you a day to think it over. This isnt a suspendable offense.... but i could see a few "instigation" penalties being issued if it continues... trust me you dont wanna end up in the "penalty box" cause SS2k5 is in there and he like "young men" to sit on his lap while he "molests" them. whew that's alot of "quotes" for one post I think you are "confusing" me with the wrong former "admin"
  11. And it was the happiest 6 hours of his life, followed by the worst 6 hours...
  12. Rooney's future Sox, WSCR call Radio play-by-play man's contract up after this season Fred Mitchell August 9, 2005 When it comes to no-nonsense, accurate baseball play-by-play broadcasting, White Sox radio voice John Rooney has been a soothing, professional fixture for the past 18 years. But with the Sox's radio rights shifting from WMVP AM-1000 to WSCR AM-670 next season, Rooney's future association with the ballclub remains up in the air. "John's contract is up this year and we anticipate getting something done with the Sox," said Steve Mandell, Rooney's Chicago-based agent. "They say they would love to have him back, so we've been talking. We'll see. The Sox are having a huge year, so the focus is staying on the success of the team." Sox management and WSCR executives will make the decision on the team's play-by-play man for next season. Rooney has teamed with color analyst Ed Farmer for the past 14 years and an Internet site recently acknowledged them as the best radio team in the American League. "There is a longstanding relationship with the Sox," Mandell said. "I don't anticipate a lot of changes, but we will have to go through the process." Rooney's broadcast experience includes national stints with Fox Sports, as well as coverage of college football bowl games and the NCAA basketball Final Four.

  15. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) i don't know why people get so fired up over guys like gammons, levine, ofman etc. chicago is a competitive media market, which means that these guys are going to roll with what they here when they hear it. some deals pan out, some don't, but it does not mean that guys are just making things up. i can promise you that a guys like levine or offman are not going to go public with information that has absolutely no basis in fact. they'd lose total face with not only the public, but with their sources who would recognize them as unreliable and probably untrustworthy. neither of those guys would have jobs if their sources were not good, because you can bet their bosses know who those sources are. To be honest I think some of the guys on here are more comfortable with their panties wedged firmly up their ass.
  16. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Williams has been a bum all season, how does his current health change their financial situation? Actually it only reenforces Kalapse's and I's points. If the Yankees did indeed have payroll to spend, they would have aquired/ or being trying to aquire someone like Griffey. We saw how little the Reds were asking, and we know the Yankees could come up with something, maybe even less than the Sox offered, if they were willing to pick up all of the $50 million left in the KGJ contract.
  17. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) The Yankees would not hesitate to get Griffey. They have been open about thier disappointment with Williams play and he recently injured his shoulder during the weekend so it wouldnt suprise me if they tried getting him or atleast seriously considered it. Money is not an issue with the Yankees and everyone knows how desperate they are. If money wasn't an issue why did they aquire Shawn Chacon, Al Leiter, and Buddy Groom at the trading deadline instead of guys like Jason Schmidt, AJ Burnett, and Billy Wagner? If the Yankees had payroll left, they wouldn't have been scavenging the waiver wires for pitchers, they would have been going out and getting them, not to mention picking up a CF to replace Williams.
  18. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) so your telling me when you ban someone on soxtalk that it doesn't kill them instantly? Dispite how some people react after getting banned....No.

  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) White Sox all the way. It's friggin preseason. I could care less about football right now. ^^ That.
  21. Dan Haren is best friends with Soxtalk's own Jim Bullard, and I remember Jim telling us exactly how good Haren was going to be, not to mention the payroll savings that the A's got, plus the certianty of knowing how long Haren will be with Oakland, and you have got to call this a win-win trade at worst, and if Mulder leaves St Louis soon, it is a difinate win for the A's.
  22. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) Reading is a skill . . . I was just reading over directions on the maps that I am enclosing with my invites and when I looked at the heading, I swear it said "Directions to hell" rather than "Directions to hall." I wonder if Brian thought the samething
