  1. QUOTE(sti3 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) I appreciate her passion but find her writing cutesy/precious/whathaveyou. I think her legions of adorers are taken in by the fact that she's a woman fan. If she were a guy writing what she does she'd be ignored. I spend all day reading news and sports on the net, and I can tell you there are very, very few people; male, female, or otherwise, who can write this well.
  2. Get well Soon Cam!!!
  3. Lennon/McCartney [/thread]
  4. I guarentee you that the Sox will try to kick Cleveland's asses no matter what the situation or ramifications. This team has no fear of Oakland or anyone else, as well it should be. To be honest it would be a travesty to every fan who pays to see those games, if they rolled over. It would piss me off as a baseball fan. Resting starters or pitching minor leaguers to set the rotation for the post season is one thing, losing on purpose, or even not trying to hard is another.
  5. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) No, the NICE thing is that you'll still be an hour and a half away by train..... Don't worry, when that restraining order expires, I will be right back in your bushes
  6. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) What is the Red Eye? I like to call it the Newspaper for Dummies
  7. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) Gotta ask, Mike: how long does it take you to get to work everyday? Hour and a half on the train, just less than an hour on the rare occasion when I drive. The nice thing is that the place we just bought would have been at least double the cost in most of the decent Chicago burbs.
  8. Neal Cotts is another great example of a guy who got thrown under the bus by many here, after basically no time at the major league level. I am so glad to see the blessing of Soxtalk carryover to another guy, and to see Neal kickass out of the pen for the Sox.
  9. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) This is too easy If it never gets reported then what basis do you have for your statement? How do you know that Frank has been put on waivers repeatedly? Where did you get that information if it was never reported? Let's try to use common sense here. If a player is placed on waivers then all MLB teams know about it as does the player's union & player himself. There is no confidentiality agreement governing this information. So it's ridiculous to suggest ALL or even most marquee players get put on waivers & no one ever reports it. Put another way, if the NYY$ put A-Rod, Jeter, Posada, Randy Johnson, or Mike Mussina on waivers do you really believe not one NY reporter would write about it? Not if it is a part of standard operating procedure every year...
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) Here's a question for you guys: If Griffey makes it to the Sox to they put a claim in on him or just let him pass through? If they claim him they might be able to get him for absolutely no players just take on that crazy contract, also this negates any chance of another team(the yankees) making a trade for Jr. You don't claim him otherwise you could end up with the whole contract. At least under the deal we had worked out we were getting about $15 million in salary relief.
  11. QUOTE(Yoda @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Congrats, Mike! BTW, is the home located in Michigan City as well? Yeah its actually a block over and 11 blocks up from where I have lived for a lot of my life.
  12. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) No it doesn't. Unless he wants to name names it's just heresay. Secondly 150 players represents about 13% of MLB players on 40 man rosters. A far cry from EVERYONE. Other GM's that have been interviewed on the subject have said it's rare for teams to block. It's considered reasonable by contenders but definitely would be frowned upon by the league if a non-contender did it. Teams do not use the waiver wire to guage interest. They use it to dump salaries. You just contradicted yourself there, you said it was rare to have happen, yet 150 players were claimed by one GM, so if was rare and and such a low percentage of players, that would stand to reason that a lot more players weren't claimed???
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) If a team makes a claim on Griffey Jr., they better be sure they can handle his contract. What's to stop the Reds from just saying "fine, you take him, and we won't have to pay another cent of his contract"? Just as the Padres got stuck with Randy Myers ridiculous contract, the Reds could possibly jump at the chance at getting out of Griffey's contract without a scratch. I know everyone thinks such and such team will try to block the trade.....but this isn't a one year contract that expires at the end of the season we're dealing with. Exactly IIRC we are talking about $50 million to claim him. That isn't exactly chump change for anyone trying to simply block a trade.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) Griffey waivers can always be revoked. I'm sure he either will be placed on waivers or already has been. And I would bet the owner of the Reds would rather have the money the GM and President of the Reds agreed to pay than the prospects the White Sox were sending back. FWIW, Steve Phillips is taking credit for all the waiver claims being made the past several years. He said he claimed 150 players on waivers in 1997 in order to block trades. Hmmm which by basic logic means that there were a whole bunch of people that didn't get claimed, which means there were litterally hundreds of players on waivers during that season. Huh, I guess that means basically everyone goes on waivers
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:50 PM) Please for God's sake tell me you didn't get an interest only mortgage or something insane like that. Fixed rate right now. It's the only sane thing to do with a real estate market the way it is and rates rising for a full year. Oh God no... Fixed rate all of the way. The Fed has just wacked us for 250 Bps in about 6 months, interest rates are about to go way up. I wouldn't touch an ARM or interest only loan to save my life. The only time to ARM is for a temporary house or for high interest rates. And thanks for the kind words all!!!
  16. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) I'm flattered by her very original use of the term "b****" sox. Yes, definitely talented. :puke :puke :puke :puke But, all in good fun. I guess I missed where you guys all posted your pictures so you could prove how "talented" you are...
  17. That was an excellent write up. You could almost hear the tears that we have been crying for 3 years.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) I'm just saying what I think can be said. I looked over the post beforehand to see if he did use something like that. You have to be really careful what you say about a person on the internet. Really it is no different than a newspaper. I have seen websites sued, and personal/IP information supenaed over less than what was just said here. Some people think they are hiding when they post on a message board, but it is no different than publishing a book when it comes to the law. You will be held responsible for what you say, if it is illegal.
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) I think you can say things as long as you say "I believe" before it. Or, "It is my opinion." There are no qualifications here... http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=823417
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) Problem is...we have until about Dec. 19th to offer him arbitration. If we don't do that (and I believe we won't) then if he's not signed before then, we won't be able to sign him for several months. Unless we can convince Frank to turn down the offer of arbitration, then we can still negotiate with him. With Frank and JRs relationship, this might be a possiblity.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) OMG, they just said Row made a case for a GG during the Yankee series on SportsCenter, this is major slurpage comming out of Bristol. It is funny how it takes a series in Yankee Stadium to establish what many of us have been saying all year. Aaron Rowand is one of the best defensive CFs in all of baseball, welcome to the bandwagon YES network.
  22. QUOTE(sti3 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) I don't think they apply on message boards. Anyway, I love ARow, but since the topic has been broached, it's certainly possible that he was on the juice. His power numbers are way down while everything else has stayed the same. But if he was on them, I bet he was smart enough to get off as soon as testing started and go natural. They absolutely apply to message boards, trust me. People have been sued over stuff like that, and believe me, if Aaron Rowand's attourney wanted this guys IP and personal info, Soxtalk would give it up in a heartbeat. Just because this is a message board doesn't mean you can say things about people without any evidence.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) I did the same. I went to my freshmen orientation and was like ahhh so this is where Fullerton is (kind of pathetic, its only 20 minutes from my place and I'd never been). I never visited Manchester before I went there either. I thought I was the only one dumb enough to do that... I feel better now
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) Oh trust me, if I get out to Chicago...Sox tix on me the first time I'm out there Who is Steff having fired this time?
  25. Good luck Jas! Keep us up on where you end up.
