Sox vs KC 8/28 game thread 6:10 first pitch
Dick Allen replied to Bad Hombre's topic in 2020 Season in Review
Mendick has been very respectable as the 3rd second baseman. Can he keep it up once he is exposed? That is a big question, but choosing him over paying Yolmer was the correct move. I would prefer Madrigal. -

I could have sworn one of his hits before he was hurt was 110. It is amazing how many people don’t seem to want this kid to be successful just because Keith Law doesn’t think he will be. I doubt I can find it, but back when TA was a rookie, I mentioned how the ball seemed to really carry off his bat and I thought maybe some day he might be a 20-25 homer guy. There was a post telling me his exit velocities didn’t support that thought. Thinking a guy like Madrigal is a finished product will only make you look like you don’t know what you are talking about in the long run IMO. I think he is too clever and makes too much contact not to be really good. -

Madrigal hit one off the scoreboard in Schaumburg during a simulated game last night. -
White Sox Acquire Jarrod Dyson from PIT

Gonzalez will be gone for Dyson. Goins and probably Collins will be gone for Madrigal and Yolmer. -

And in the 8th and 9th inning with a lead, the Sox can have an OF of Dyson, Robert, and Engel. No one matches it. If the rosters were 26, I wouldn't want Dyson, but 28, he does serve a purpose as long as Ricky doesn't fall in love with him. But even then, with the Sox current roster, it would be very hard for Ricky to play him too much. -

He's a far better pinch runner than Goins, and if you get to extra innings, pinch runners have even more value. -
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX NO HITTER WINNER

White Sox are selling $27 tickets to the no hitter. -
Goins is a 32 year old pinch runner with 6 career stolen bases. You really don’t need to know more than that.
-
Sorry, Gonzalez is the next to go, then Goins.
-
He will take Delmonico's spot when he's ready to go. I do agree, there is not much opportunity here. Surprised he came back actually. But it's for a month at best. The money is probably the same everywhere, he might as well go to something familiar.
-
He's better than Goins. Yolmer is fine as a back up.

Coronavirus has forced Pret a Manger to permanently close all of its Chicago locations except one at the University of Chicago. Too bad. Convenient, quick, good, and relatively healthy.

How much longer do you wait on EE and Mazara?
Dick Allen replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
At least they traded him. The Tigers ditched McCann with 2 years of control and half the price, so he must really suck. I would give this guy a break. He is 25 years old, was sick and fell behind. He isn’t alone struggling. He obviously has power but hasn’t shown it yet. It will eventually. -
8-23 GT: Sox @ Cubs (1:20pm)

What is funny is Jerry Manuel was criticized for pulling Garland the first sign of trouble. Ozzie left him in and was given a ton of credit.(Garland was also a better pitcher then). Now managers are idiots for not pulling a guy the first sign of trouble. All in all a great series. Cease pitched really well, the Sox had their chances and it didn’t work out. Now destroy Pittsburgh on Tuesday. -
I am guessing you are just joking, because if not, this is one of the most classless posts of all time.

This will be a test for Robert. I still don’t understand why they throw him strikes. -

Only 3 of the Sox homers last night went at least 440. Let’s see if they can do something about that tonight. -
Madrigal is in Schaumburg right now. He will be the 2B, Mendick will be the back up IF. So Yolmer or Holt would be behind him.Unless there is another injury, with a little over one month left, hardly any opportunity.
-
Once Madrigal comes back, Mendick moves into the Goins role. So IDK if Holt or Yolmer would be very interested. Neither would play much if there isn’t an injury.

2019-2020 Official NBA Thread
Dick Allen replied to Bananarchy's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I was never a big Wendell Carter lover, but the Boylen system didn’t exactly cater to his strengths. Same with Laurie. Laurie was a better player before Boylen ran the show. I expect improvement when someone who coaches to their players strengths gets hired. Lavine is fine. He just is miscast as a #1 option. He just doesn’t finish at the end of games. No need to get rid of him unless it is part of the coast to bring one of those players in. The problem is the Bulls still don’t really know what they have. As crazy as some of the stuff that went done was, that is the real problem with the Boylen era. It will be interesting to see what they do with their roster. I don’t know if much can be done this offseason with Otto Porter on the books, but I suspect when the Bulls are contenders again, not all of Lavine, Laurie, Wendell and Coby White will be on the roster. -

I think there would be. What wouldn’t have happened most likely is Grandal and EE being White Sox, and of course Mazara. 3 of the biggest punching bags so far. You would have an OF set for 6 or 7 years. 3/4 of an infield set for at least 4 or 5. A potential star 1B coming probably next year. You would have McCann catching . Basically your minor leagues would be used to develop pitching and trade chips. It still is impressive, but Harper would have made this line up unreal , and probably for a long time. Plus he would have been the lefty in middle of the line up. -

Could you imagine how insane the Sox line up would be if they had signed Bryce Harper? -

Around the league, there are a lot of guys putting up awful numbers right now. Gary Sanchez, Javy Baez., Cody Bellinger, Altuve, Semien... Chances are, EE isn’t a .156 hitter and Mazara actually has some pop. Odds are overwhelming that James McCann isn’t suddenly a .350 hitter. Ride the hot streaks, but usually things come back to or at least pretty close to the mean. The guys slumping will heat up, the guys on fire will cool off a bit. No need to panic . -

The Sox have hit a ridiculous amount of homers the last week or so.
