  1. He once generally mangaged a team that wound up only 16.5 games out of first place. Hasn't been back to that level, but what do you want only in his 7th season.
  2. That's what I have always thought. You have to be able to hit gas. Guys used to be able to get away with slider speed bats. The one thing Paulie could always do was turnaround major gas. He was hitting .400 and had some issue with his wrist, and then became old fast.
  3. But he was. Does Jose not have a responsibility to see the baserunner in front of him? If a ball gets away from the catcher isn't the runner on 1st responsible for making sure the runner on 2nd actually goes to 3rd before he takes off? It's the same concept. Maybe Anderson should have been somewhere else, but he wasn't. That doesn't mean you pass him up. It's a rare occurrence. Guys get hung up a lot more often because they don't pass someone. On a deep flyball that is either going to be a home run or caught, I would want all my runners tagging. At the very least, make him make a throw. Maybe it winds up wild.
  4. You are supposed to watch what is in front of you What if Anderson fell down or hurt himself? It wasn't a no doubter, and this wasn't the first time Jose played baseball.
  5. What Anderson did may have been stupid, but passing him up was more stupid.
  6. They play a lot of really bad teams, so they might be better than thought.
  7. All that stuff takes care of itself. Never have the White Sox had too many good players.
  8. You mentioned size. 5'11" is fine for a baseball player. He seems to have a lot of power, and tons of guys who supposedly know what they are looking at feel he is worthy of #3 if not higher. The only question I would have with Witt is there seems to be some doubt about his swing, and the White Sox seem to be one of the last organizations I would think could fix it. Other than that, it looks like the two teams in front of the White Sox will be making their choice for them.
  9. Dick Allen 5;11" right handed first baseman. I'd take him 3rd.
  10. Keep in mind Shields was pulling in around $20 million a year the last several years. Most likely the reason no one gave him a job is he probably isn't willing to work for peanuts.
  11. I agree. The other thing is, with Anderson where he was, Abreu had very little if any chance at 2B if the ball somehow stayed in the park anyway. He would have had to make sure TA would have made 3rd and the throw to 2B is a lot shorter and he a lot slower, so it basically was HR or single or out for him. either stay on 1B or not even get there until the play develops.
  12. Wow, I didn't know they could send him down. Must have been the minor league contract. That saves some cash. So not nearly as dopey as thought.
  13. It was Abreu's fault. He had TA in front of him. He probably should have pulled up before he hit 1B.
  14. Yeah I don’t know why Jason is arguing it, he was clearly inside the line.
  15. Eloy gets replaced by a LF that makes him look good. Rondon cant wait to get back to the infield.
  16. I wrote in the game thread move him to 1B, but I agree with you. If Collins has to move to 1b, and it looks more and more like Vaugn is the Sox pick, somehow, some way, Eloy is going to have to learn how to play a passable LF. I had heard he wasn't very good with the glove, but he looks lost out there.
  17. Carlos May once hit a home run on opening day but missed home plate when he ran the bases. He got a triple.
  18. Tim Anderson is exhibit A? He was called up when he was 23 and hopefully has figured it out at 26. If they called him up when he was 21, he might be doing something other than flipping bats right now. a guy like Robert is not going to sign a team friendly extension because he has already been paid. If he is as good as we all hope, he is going to command top dollar, something the White Sox haven’t yet shown they will pay. To have maybe 3 or 4 mediocre at best years from him before he figures it out is stupidity if it can be avoided. To call them up to struggle is silly. They will do plenty of that anyway when they are farther down the developmental line.
  19. Actually I think there is a case for cancelled to be used. The general rule the English police use is cancelled means gone forever, and in baseball with the game rescheduled months from now, the rosters will both certainly be different and the pitching match up will be different making it a totally different game.
  20. Rushing prospects is now good? White Sox are going to White Sox. Go back to the old way that produced some nice busts. PLEASE SELL THE TEAM JR SO SOMEONE WHO CAN WILL HAVE THE URGENCY TO BRING IN DIFFERENT PEOPLE TO MAKE BASEBALL DECISIONS.
  21. 36 year old Ervin Santana, coming off of an ERA of 8.03 with a FIP of 7.94 will wind up being paid around $1,370,000 per start by the White Sox. Can't spend $1 if you only have $0.50.
  22. Just added to the tab. Him, Alonso and Jay, you are halfway to one of the years they couldn't afford Machado, and that is before investment.
  23. Yes. It seems to me there has been a shift. Before the Sox rebuild, it was suggested you suck for 3 years, it sets up a 6-8 year run. Now it seems, you suck for 4 or 5 years, it sets up maybe a 2 or 3 year run.
  24. They claim theses guys get along as well as any team ever. I don’t hang out with them, as long as they aren’t wife beaters or child molestors, I would rather have 25 assholes who can play.
