Sox get swept by Dbacks
I know this wasn't directed at me. To get me back interested I'd like to see legit players on the going up side of their MLB careers at 2nd and RF. That shows me a little give a shit. I'd like a new manager with some experience without ties to the organization. I'd like a new hitting coach. I'm in the minority but I'll accept the front office staying the same. There are some positions that also need help like catcher. But many of the other spots are likely to improve with healing.

Abreu to slumping Sox: “We have to believe”
What does he know? Abreu is an idiot blaming injuries. It's TLR, It's Hahn, it's JR. End of story. Injuries weren't a problem.

Fire Rick Hahn
Good point.

I have confidence they can dig an even deeper hole.

Heads Up: Site is all upgraded and we are back
Because he really likes the fans, TLR bought a cork board and some push pins and will set it up at Jewel.

I agree. Which leads to this paradox. One of the worst GMs in baseball, who should be fired, put together a horrible roster that should be winning the division. Is he really as bad as we're saying here, or did Hahn hand a decent roster to a horrible manager who then didn't deal with unforseen injuries and rapid declining players? Personally, I'm struggling to reconcile he sucks with we should be winning.

Fire Rick Hahn
As horrible as the roster is that Hahn put together, so many people actually thought this team would win their division. Many fans and insiders thought they could win a playoff series. People are actually disappointed this incredibly flawed roster isn't winning. Just looking at half the mistakes Hahn made should have had everyone predicting third place. We all could see they had no chance.

Vacation/Travel Thread.
Anyone done Alaska by land? I'm planning for 2023 or 2024 a trip to Glacier NP, Bannf PP, then Alaska Highway to Alaska then the loop stopping is Homer, Seward, etc. Not certain about the return route. Towing our travel trailer.

Student Loan Debt
It's less than we'll send to Ukraine. Call it a university bailout. Arguably Tesla is the most successful automobile manufacturer over the last ten years. So why are we paying millionaires a $7,500 tax credit to buy a Tesla?

8/26 Arizona @ Sox GT, 7:10
We need a GM who can put a competitive team on the field. Only an idiot would have thought this team could win anything.

Reese McGuire
So as a GM you would keep a guy on the roster who plays half a season at best because you also signed a bad deal at catcher? I would cut my losses and move on and find a reliable second baseman.
-
Reese McGuire
Call it what it whatever, the guy has not managed to play even half a season. I don't think that's a buzz word.

Why pay Madrigal the league minimum to rehab over and over again? We both can think of a couple reasons. Two issues here. Nicky turned out to be injury prone and not someone you could build around. Dumping him was a good thing. Don't you remember the CBA agreement? We want players to make a lot of ?. We don't want JR to spend minimum wage when there are enough profits to pay those guys tens of millions. (I agree, those salary numbers are crazy).

In other recovering from groin issue news Nick Madrigal, after a few months on the IR, is hitting a lot of singles and walking.

Student Loan Debt
@BigHurt3515 it's less than we'll send to Ukraine. Less than many business bailouts. Most of that money will be spent on taxable expenditures which will roll into businesses and eventually fund state and local governments. Money always flows towards money. The rich get richer and the government gets bigger. It is more efficient to just give it to the government and businesses directly, but with this the population gets to touch it for a moment.

Student Loan Debt
My job has me listening to 20 to 30 college recruiting pitches each year. I understand the additional tech and modern upgrades that cost colleges and get passed on. But what has also inflated tuition are the resort amenities that have been built to attract college students. Dorms are bigger and nicer. Pools are connected to lazy rivers. The health club fitness centers are state of the art. Colleges have to upgrade to compete. Combined with easy credit and many universities could keep raises rates and keep growing in enrollment. I'm hoping Biden can get free K-14 passed. Community college cost structures aren't much different than high schools. It's just extending public education two years. Increase Pell grants to 1970 levels in regards to percentage of cost covered. And maybe we can regain world class status.

Market/Financial Thread
If I had a guess there would be a graduated plan so that those at $125,000 to say $150,000 would have 80% forgiven and so on. Lots of married voters earning over $125,000.

I teach this. By law, typically in June, Congress sets the rates based on the Treasury note auction in May. That might not be as helpful to borrowers as it appears. Over the past decades college costs have risen as fast as loan money has become available. Basically if rates went to zero, in theory students could borrow more, so universities would award their professors huge raises* and adjust tuition. *More likely they will improve the eye candy with better cafeteria, resort pools, and other entertainment options. The net would be same payments with more debt.

Unprecedented inaction?
Sorry it was just the first couple of series. Perhaps as late as the Boston sweep but that just got them back to .500. But my main point is where did you predict the Sox to finish based on the opening day roster? Hahn put together a roster that most everyone predicted would easily win the division and probably go a round or two in the playoffs. And not just fans here, but writers, and professional odds makers. I'm fine with cleaning house but Tony gets me pissed off enough that I just don't have any extra give a craps to really throw shade at Hahn. In the dramatic turnabout factors I would rank replacing Hahn a distant fifth after Staying healthy / New manager (tie) Healthy but steep decline players Hahn.
