Just for you @caulfield12 I even feel like fully processing this response. I believe you will be delighted in the reference. I've been waiting to use it. I’ll concede that Getz has made mistakes, but I’m thoroughly enjoying this season. After the last few years, being a White Sox fan had become positively Beckettian: endless waiting, diminishing expectations, and the nagging suspicion that the thing we were waiting for might not exist. And yet, here we are in September, playing meaningful baseball. Apparently Godot showed up. He’s just a couple of years late and has questionable roster-construction skills.

Getz has made moves that got this team to .500 a couple years faster than many here thought. For the first time in years we were buyers at the trade deadline and his moves didn't pan out. They were risks and I'm certain the organization knew they were risks. You can make good decisions and have them not work out. Like the lotto tickets I just threw away. I am interested in what the organization can do with Castillo when they have an entire off season to prepare for next year. It will tell a lot about the organization if they can turn him around. It's been two decades since this sort of project worked out regularly for the team.

I love a little September slump. Makes for a better October. Not wondering when we play next.

Now we will find out. Culture isn't really know until it is tested.

It still seems really old school in the era of managing by computer. Are there any stats that shows that players play better after their manager yells at an umpire? It seems like someone should be able to run an analysis to determine when he should yell and how long.

I keep thinking these guys are adults with families and shouldn't need someone yelling at regulators to motivate them to work. How would you react if your boss started yelling at other people.

Arguing and getting thrown out to motivate the behavior of players and umpires seems like last century thinking.

Working without stats and objective evidence is the usual path in my academics. But trying to fit that into analyzing a baseball team is difficult. One key to this team's success is chemistry (not the Barry Bonds type) attitude and believing in themselves. In the world of advanced analytical analysis how do we factor in that X factor? It feels like we could statistically replace the production of a few of these guys but the end result would be a 90 loss team as we predicted. It seems so 1970s to say something like "I like the chemistry and have a feeling in my gut these guys can win".

Who's the one guy that no one would pick to be the September Hero? The pick that will make you look like a genius later. The roll platter, underperformer, the break out, the Hollywood pick. I'm going with Castillo. He'll go 3-1 this month with a big win in Cleveland.

I wish we were à franchise where 5 million is chump change. Imagine if that beer league team needed a shortstop, we could put a package together.

While we might not think they have that great of a chance, the amazing thing is, they believe they can win. With nothing to back it, I'm believing they win a playoff series. I also believe this could be our 1969.

It will be interesting how the rotation sets up for the playoffs. Of they have to battle just to get in, you have to take what you get. If there is a chance to rest someone or skip a start to set up your game one guy, I wonder by then who it will be.

His contract looks bad because our owner has always placed "fiscal responsibility" over anything else. Put him on the Mets and it's slightly above their average. So basically a role player contract. We expect guys at that salary to be stars.
