  1. The Padres report was somewhat of a rumor, whereas the Cole to Sox item was pure speculation that the author put at a 1.6% chance of happening. That being said, your point on the media right now is fair. Just will be painful if the Padres of all fucking teams land someone like Strasburg and we settle for the next tier of free agents.
  2. I think them seriously pursuing both guys is not realistic, but them being in the mix for even a single elite free agent this offseason after landing Machado and having two albatross contracts on their books speaks volumes of how they, another mid market club, operates vs us. And that falls on our owner...do you disagree?
  3. And let me be clear, I’d like to aim WAY higher than Calhoun.
  4. If we’re trying to build a team with playoff hopes, I’d rather sign Calhoun to one year deal than trade for Mazara. If Nomar was a good defender, then I’d be more willing to roll the dice. Unfortunately he’s not and his floor is simply too low and reward is too small to pass safer, less exciting additions like a Calhoun.
  5. Yelich had a wRC+ over 120 in his four fulll seasons with the Marlins, while Mazara has been around 93. And Yelich had one season where he flashed an elite quality of contact (2016), which is something Mazara has never done. I just don’t see this being a good comparison. The reality with Mazara is he’s only under control for two more years and his agent is Scott Boras, so even in the unlikely event he breaks out he’s a short-term solution. If we want to roll the dice on a project next year, I’d much rather see what we have in Collins at 1B/ DH than invest in a guy who has 2,000+ below league average plate appearances at the major league level.
  6. Disagree this is another rebuilding year. We need to start going for it starting in 2020. We may not see enough growth out of our young guys to get there, but we need have the major holes filled in the event they do. There is no more punting seasons when Moncada and Giolito are only under four seasons of control.
  7. Boston can’t afford Cole.
  8. I’d much rather have Benintendi than Puig / Calhoun because he doesn’t come with the baggage of the former and has far more upside than the latter. I just don’t see why the Red Sox would ever give him up given their payroll constraints. Acquiring Lopez simply creates a hole in the OF and doesn’t really accomplish anything for them.
  9. Anthony Castrovince from MLB.com has Gerrit Cole signing sign the Sox in his bold predictions article: https://www.mlb.com/news/bold-predictions-for-2020-offseason
  10. If you want a “realistic” offseason, MLB.com had article stating the Padres might after both Rendon & Strasburg. While there is no way in hell that’s happening, it does make Reinsdorf look like a total joke when it comes to big name free agents. It also highlights the idea that when impact guys like Rendon do become available, you should be willing to consider any and all options to make them fit.
  11. Why would the Red Sox, who have a serious financial problem, trade their most affordable OF for Lopez?
  12. The White Sox won a World Series under KW in addition to making the playoffs multiple times. Rick Hahn has yet to achieve a 2nd place finish or even a .500 season. Yes, some of that is by design, but honestly hating on KW but giving Rick Hahn props is very mind-boggling to me. Worst case scenario, hate on both of them at least.
  13. Yolmer is the last thing in the world Boston would ever want right now. And he simply has negative trade value at his projected arbitration salary, so he’s not really a trade chip for anything.
  14. That’s a dreadful deal for us IMO.
  15. How can they shed much of Price’s salary?
  16. For a similar price I think you could get Wheeler & Castellanos and they’d probably give you close to 7 WAR.
  17. McCann has historically hit RHP very well (career 117 wRC+). Part of the reason why adding Grandal and then effectively platooning MCann & Collins across multiple positions make sense.
  18. All depends on the price. But if MLBTR is right, you could get the three of them for ~$55M in AAV. I think the Sox could afford that if they were willing to sport a $140M payroll next year (which they should), but that’s far from a guarantee.
  19. Fully agree, but if the big market teams focus their attention on Cole & Strasburg, there’s no reason we can’t be one of the favorites if we’re willing to strike early.
  20. What’s Moose’s WAR if he starts 75% of his games at DH?
  21. 5 to 6 for each I agree with, I thought you were suggesting a good 18 teams would be after each one of them. I still think we should easily be able to afford all three guys, whether or not Hahn can actually execute that plan is another story.
  22. There will be 15 to 18 teams competing for each of those guys? Sounds like the most active free agency in baseball history!
  23. Yeah, the order would need some tweaking, but that could be a seriously good lineup.
  24. Sign Grandal, Castellanos, & Wheeler. This lineup would be significantly better than last year: Anderson, SS Moncada, 3B# Abreu, 1B/DH Jimenez, LF Grandal, C/DH/1B# Castallanos, RF Robert, CF Collins, DH* / McCann, C Madrigal, 2B
