  1. This is very much a shot in the dark, but on the off chance someone can help: I currently live in Southern Indiana and work for the government. I want to (1) Relocate to Northwest Indiana (ideal) or Northern or Central Indiana and (2) Not work for the government anymore. My biggest problem is that my experience working for the government does not translate very well to any specific industry. While I have above-average intelligence, outstanding analytical ability, and decent people skills, I don't have the kind of specific experience that most companies are looking for in hiring mid-career people, and while money isn't the most important factor, I just can't afford to take an entry-level position. The traditional route of looking on CareerBuilder, etc., doesn't seem to be working for me because I don't really know exactly what I'm looking for. I'm really open to just about anything other than commission-based sales type stuff. It's more about finding a company and situation I like rather than looking for something specific.
  2. The Marlins-Cardinals game was not on the original schedule. I remember because at the time Mark B signed with Miami, I was thinking that I would make the 100-mile trek to see Mark pitch the second game of the Marlins-Reds series. Then at some point this opening night game got added and that pushed Mark up to the first game of the Marlins-Reds series, which screwed me because (1) Opening Day Reds tickets are nearly impossible to get and (2) much harder day for me to get off work.
  3. I've seen Obama's economic policies blamed for a lot of things, but I think this is going a bit far.

  5. For the first time in my life, I am older than every player on the Sox active roster. See, Omar Vizquel was good for something the last two years.
  6. Based on promising Springs by Dunn and Peavy, I've upped my prediction to about 85 wins.
  7. Awesome year for the Irish! They really have been the second best team all season long.
  8. I would say both of those things. Davis was clearly the best player in college this year, but I don't see him being a dominant NBA player.
  9. So Bill Self went from Illinois to Kansas. Bruce Weber went from Illinois to Kansas State. Does that mean John Groce's next job is at Wichita State?
  10. My wife missed a chance to finish in the top 1% on espn.com when Kansas beat Ohio State. She had Kentucky over OSU in the final. She watched a total of about 2 hours worth of basketball this season before filling out her bracket.
  11. I saw somebody yesterday who was not only writing a check, but getting his groceries bagged in paper. Thought it was the 1980s again for a while.
  12. I have had various friends and co-workers ask me to join regular lottery groups. My response is always the same: If you have something down in writing, I'll be happy to join. None of them had anything in writing, nor were they willing to put it in writing, and this is exactly why I insist on it.
  13. How are you able to play on PokerStars? Do you not live in the US?
  14. So he goes from my 2nd favorite team to my 31st favorite team. That sucks.
  15. Gee, I live about halfway between Bloomington and Lexington. Think there's any chance of finding a bar with that 9:05 Sox game on?
  16. Forte can go become an Argonaut any time he wants. If the Bears had never offered him any kind of long term deal and just tagged him, I might have some sympathy for him. However, if the Bears really have offered him a $25M+ deal with $15M+ guaranteed, then he needs to STFU.
  17. Updated stats: 8-24 (.333), 4HR, 1 2B, 12 RBI, 9 BB, 1 K, .515 OBP, .875 SLG.
  18. I know that murder is typically a state and not a Federal offense, but are there any grounds on which the Feds can go after him if the state refuses?
  19. Not officially announced yet but supposedly a done deal beginning July 2013.
  20. As an ND alum, I wholly recommend Illinois hire Mike Brey.
