  1. It's pretty ridiculous that they didnt even interview a single other candidate. It just makes the whole Ventura leak thing even more awkward. This has obviously been the plan for awhile, so why even bother with that dumb ass charade?
  2. If you want an idea how the White Sox FO really feels about the fanbase, read that follow up Nightengale piece. f*** this organization.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) I am ok with it. If he wants to go I am ok with that too. Give hiom the players and see if they perform I'm happy to provide you with a list of why you shouldn't be ok with it...
  4. If this ends up happening, I will not attend another White Sox game until Jerry either dies or sells the team. Reinsdorf is becoming Bill Wirtz incarnated.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) Mark: There will likely be 3 White Sox players from the June draft on your next 100, right? Klaw: Wrong. Who are they assuming would be the third? Burdi?
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 07:32 AM) I talked with Scott Merkin this weekend via DM on twitter. He said if he had to guess, he'd think it would be Renteria or McEwing as next manager but that could change obviously. He also said Don Cooper is 100% back. Would be yet another FO fail.
  7. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) I watch as many games as I can. What is life without White Sox baseball? Fulfilling
  8. Haven't watched a game since getting back from vacation. I'll check scores, stat lines, and maybe a highlight once in awhile, but I see no reason to give this team valuable hours of my day at this point in the season.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) I hope they get swept in the NLDS. I've been the "Sox guy" ever since I was a little kid. Back in the day, we'd have some fun and go back and forth with it and then once the Sox won most of the s*** talking went away. All of a sudden everybody became Hawk fans. Recently, a bunch of people who don't know baseball and have never talked baseball with me have started talking the s*** again. I am annoyed by it. I don't hate the Cubs team or their players but I wish their fans' suffering to continue. Maybe that's immature, but oh well. This is what annoys me the most. People that don't even pay attention to baseball (especially outside the Cubs) and never have, have latched on and just become insufferable. It's the Blackhawks 2010 all over again. I don't need you to be able to recite stats or discuss advance metrics, but don't try talking s*** to me as a Sox fan. I am 100% positive I am a more rabid baseball fan than you and I will talk you under the table if you bring that nonsense. I was at Wrigley 2 years ago for the Crosstown Classic, there was no one there. Please dont pretend like your fanbase isn't fairweather as f***. Small anecdote from another experience at Wrigley: some friends and I went to the final game of the 2012 Wrigley sweep Crosstown Classic. After the game, not only was I called a f***** by Cubs fans, but 2 tried starting a fight with my friend and I and some others were telling his girlfriend how ugly she was. Why should I ever want that fanbase to feel joy? There are bad eggs in every fanbase (The Sox have plenty), but that type of behavior is unacceptable in my belief and there is a decent amount of it in that fanbase. Not the first time I've experienced that sort of stuff there.
  10. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) I guarantee you that whoever they'd get to replace Cooper would be a downgrade. If JR is smart, he'll let Coop continue to do his thing and fill out the rest of the coaching staff with people who can improve offensive output. How can you guarantee that? You have absolutely no idea who they are interested in and who would replace him. Who has Coop developed lately? Who has taken the next step? Unless I'm mistaken, Coop is still calling the games and some of the gameplans I've watched this season have been absolutely atrocious.
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) This is just whispers so don't take it to the bank but apparently the coaches, other than Coop surprisingly, were acting as if they were on the way out at a Sox charity golf outing a few weeks ago. Steverson specifically. My only concern with hiring Renteria is that he might be averse to getting rid of Coop if he is offered the manager position. I dont see there being any big shift in attitude in the locker room if this staff isn't wiped clean. Judging by this comment, Coop obviously has gotten comfortable in his place in this organization. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of hiring Black. Former pitcher that emphasizes pitching and can bring a great pitching coach in Balsley, fan of analytics, strong emphasis on clubhouse chemistry, players like him, bad W%, but I think that's largely because the Padres are a f***ing mess.
  12. Whoever they decide on, I really hope it's a full cleanse of the coaching staff. The message is stale and they need a lot of new life in there. Coop has run his course, teaching every pitcher a cutter isn't innovative. I haven't seen big improvement from any Sox pitchers in awhile. My vote would be for Renteria or Black from the list above.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 08:23 AM) Defensively in right field, yes. Great to see the White Sox playing him much of September in center. Willful ignorance is never a good look.
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 08:31 PM) I don't rip him. Just don't hero worship him. He's a good player one of the Sox best. And that's the problem. Certainly not his fault that the Sox haven't gotten better talent around him. The Front office- that I rip. He's one of the leagues best.
  15. I know everyone has moved on to being embarrassed by the Bears, but this is just another damning moment for this organization this season. Who the hell is even running this clubhouse anymore? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0919-story.html

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) My lord, you f***ing people. Do you seriously strangle splits for "when it mattered" with other players in other eras? With other players on other teams? Math nerds, please do me a favor and tell me how many more wins Jose Abreu would have netted us if his second half was his first half. Add that total to the Sox's win total and tell me if we're in contention yet because Jose Abreu hit "when it mattered" By the way - newsflash - if it turns out that Jose Abreu wouldn't have made a difference by himself "when it mattered" then guess what IT DIDN'T MATTER. JFC. A lot of you are looking WAY TOO HARD to find ways in which Jose Abreu had a bad season. I'm sorry, but Jose Abreu did not have a bad season. His season will end up being very, very similar to last season. Last season was a good season. Not spectacular, but good. If Jose Abreu had the 4 more home runs in the first half to make his numbers "acceptable", and if every one of those home runs turned a loss into a win, the Sox would still be out of contention. This. All this. The Sox got nothing out of DH, CF, and pretty much C this season. Abreu had a good year, he wasn't the problem. The bullpen and back of the rotation were largely horses*** as well.
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 04:42 PM) Player A is Baez. They're close in UZR but DRS significantly favors Baez. Yup! Pretty interesting to note the statiscal similarities despite the polar opposite of perceptions. Maybe Lawrie is pretty expendable.
  18. Something interesting I saw today regarding Tyler Saladino: Player A 362 Inn 11 DRS 4.4 UZR 14.9 UZR/150 .972 FP Player B 319.2 Inn 2 DRS 2.7 UZR 14.3 UZR/150 .994 FP Saladino is one of those players and the other is highly regarded for their spectacular defense. Not much of a difference statistically. Here are their offensive lines: Player A .271/.308/.426 .312 wOBA 93 wRC+ Player B .280/.316/.418 .314 wOBA 94 wRC+
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 04:12 PM) On the other hand this is the most interesting thing the Padres have done in 2 decades.
  20. It won't happen, but it sure would be awesome if this somehow mitigated the Shields trade

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) Wondering why you would want Shaw instead of Vazquez??? I do think both will be available. Shaw has played 3rd because Ramirez bumped him off 1st and Panda was hurt but he has been poor defensively. He would be a solid bat as a back-up to Abreu and back-up at DH but I think I would want better ( starter) if Sale is involved. Mostly because Vazquez is a defense only catcher that can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag. Travis Shaw, on the other hand, can hit and play defense. On the season, he has 4 DRS, a 5.8 UZR, and a 19.7 UZR/150 at first and 7 DRS, a 2.2 UZR, and a UZR/150 at 3B. Couple that with a career .200 ISO, .460 SLG%, 8.0 BB%, and a wRC+ of 104, he seems like the choice of the 2. He's the type of MLB starter the Sox need more of. An infield defense of Shaw, Saladino, Anderson, and Frazier could be rock solid next season. You then have versatility with being able to move Shaw back to 3rd if you trade Frazier or Collins comes up to DH and Abreu gets moved back to first. And he bats lefthanded and is controlled through 2022.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) Trade Sale and Melky Cabrera to BoSox for CF Benintendi, C Blake Swihart, SP Eduardo Rodriguez, 3B Rafael Devers, 1B Josh Ockimey and LHP Brian Johnson. Trade Lawrie for a minor leaguer. Trade Coats and Jennings for Danny Valencia. Sign Josh Reddick 3 years 42 million Sign Kelly Johnson 1 year 3 million Sign Brett Cecil 3 years 14 million Sign Eric O'Flaherty 1 year 3 million 1.) L - RF Eaton - locked down for years 2.) R - DH/1B Valencia - needed OBP/power punch at DH 3.) L - CF Benintendi - Cornerstone CF 4.) R - 1B Abreu 5.) L - LF Reddick - Buy low free agents op could be traded 6.) R - 3B Frazier - Trade in July assuming team falters 7.) R - SS Anderson - Corner stone SS 8.) S/L - C Swihart/Narvaez - Catcher of the future 9.) R/L - 2B Saladino/Johnson - Let Saladino show what he has with some LH power behind him in case. Bench: C Narvaez, OF Tilson, INF Kelly Johnson, INF Sanchez 1.) Quintana 2.) Rodon 3.) Rodriguez 4.) Gonzalez 5.) Shields CP Robertson SU Jones SU Cecil MR O'Flaherty MR Putnam MR Petricka MR Ynoa/Kahnle I honestly think this plan of action would get the Sox back into contention the fastest. That Sale package is the realistic type of package I imagine they are going to get for him and I'd be ok with it for the most part. Not in love with either Rodriguez or Swihart, but those are the type of pieces that make sense in a trade like this. If the Sox could get Travis Shaw instead of Swihart, I like the package a lot more. Benintendi and Devers as a centerpiece for the trade would excite me greatly though.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) You're going to pay Robertson elite closer money to set up...for a guy 25 other teams passed on? If Burdi was guaranteed elite, to be better even than Robertson, he should have gone in the top 3-5 picks. This idea of him just absolutely dominating from the get go like Jenks in 2005 is pretty far-fetched. Who was the last elite closer to be taken in the top 3-5 picks? Go ahead, I'll wait.
  24. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 03:14 PM) Attendance will fall if they trade him or not. This franchise is in a death spiral. ^ Doesn't matter what they do this offseason. This season will have a lasting effect on the fanbase.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) I do like the idea that there should be some weighting for putting up Cy Young numbers in a pennant race versus for a team that isn't in it. That's a really dumb idea actually. Why should really good pitchers on bad teams be penalized for their teams performance? Should Josh Donaldson get more MVP consideration than Mike Trout since the Angels are garbage? No.
