QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 01:24 AM) I was about to guess the replay group in NYC had already gone home but that couldn't possibly be the case, as the Yankees are all still playing in SD. Watched the replay. Clear that ball wasn't out of the field of play. Hard as hell for a home team to evict fans for that one, because it was the second bounced and everyone probably assumed it was out of play already from the original bounce before it caromed in that direction at a totally different angle. Obviously, with Trout running....he scores easily. I can't imagine if David Ortiz hit that ball against the Yankees (trailing by 1 late) and it was, let's say, Bogaerts or Bradley, Jr., running that they would have been sent back to 3rd base with their team down by a run still. Just no way that happens. Never in a million years. WRONG. That group in NYC are all Yankee or Met fans. New York teams always get the benefit of replay calls.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) I am happy with this alignment. Jesus, Matt Davidson though. I hope he comes back and hits .300 in AAA. Such a tough break for a guy who has shown by many accounts to be nothing but a great dude. If Leo Durocher was around today he would tell you great dudes finish last.

July 1st, 2016 - Chicago White Sox vs. Huston Astros - 7:10
SCCWS replied to hi8is's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) A battle of two hopeful teams starts today in a pivotal series. Both are on the outside of a wild card spot and both seem to be on the rise after being in a rut. The Sox have begun to recover after a horrid stretch, winning their last three consecutive series. We sit 2.5 games away from a wild card spot. The Huston Astros on the other hand have gone 40 and 20 since May 1st. They currently sit a half a game from a wild card spot. In the White corner, likely hailing from somewhere south of the equator, we have Miguel "The Rat Dog" Gonzalez. Sporting an intimidating set of sideburns and facial scruff - this man on a mission has been brilliant and then f***ing awful in his last two starts. The offense supporting him looks to heat up as summer temperatures continue rising. Things are clicking and aside from an injury to recent call up Matt Davidson, every man 1 through 9 believes they can mash today. Spark plug Adam Eaton has recently revealed this game will be dedicated to the injured Davidson and in homage to him, every batter will either strike out or hit a home run. In the Ugly Ass Uniform corner, hailing from a brew house in Milwaukee is some poor asshole who's mainly know for hitting Stanton in the face. A team comprised of a perennial league leader in hitting, a left handed masher, a young power hitting egotistical prick, and the Alex Rodriguez of the current generation - these guys got everything necessary to bust-a-move. Will the White Sox turn their season south and smack the moon men with a 55 pound slab of raw brisket? Will The Rat Dog throw a gem or give up 16 hits? Will Tim Anderson fly into the air revealing himself as the real life Superman? Will it ever stop? Yo, I don't know - turn off the lights, and I glow. To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal... Blah blah blah... Something about a candle.... Blah blah blah... WICKED! hi8is take away - the white sox will win as this will be the third game they win and will signal their eventual record of 28 - 5 in their next 33 games. If this does not happen exactly as I foretold - then I will make a video of myself eating a 1,000 year old egg. Stop, hammer time. Or take spelling 101 -
hahn also announced that Greg will be sent down to the Charlotte Message board to work on his player analysis.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) Exactly. Hopes of winning the division disappeared a long time ago. Good luck getting in wild card contention. The White Sox either should sell, sell sell in an attempt to rebuild or make moves based on next season. Sure if you can get a good reliever for nothing, go for it, but make moves in regards to the future not this season. That ship has sailed. Personally I'd trade Lawrie, Shields, Melky, Avi for starters. And also dump Robertson and maybe even Frazier. Sell time. Actually they already are since they are 2.5 games out. As many problems as the White Sox have, the AL is pretty weak this year. If the season ended today, KC and Boston would be the two wildcards. Two teams that have as many holes as we do. We just took 3 out of 4 in Boston and Farrell may get fired before Robin. KC is the 2nd worst road team in the AL. Only Minny is worse. Toronto---we just took 2 of 3 from them. Detroit? Another team w a manager on thin ice. I think the teams that make the best moves at the deadline will win the WC spots. But right now, there is no front runner.

Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/28/2016

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) I'll be there tonight, Hoping for an offensive show behind another dominating Q start! Offensive show and Q start typically don't belong in the same sentence. Hope you are right. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) They don't need to add two bats, as they are already committed to Morneau, to fill one spot. One more bat and a bullpen arm, would make more sense to me. I would put a 4/5 SP ahead of a bullpen arm. Who is next in line if Gonzo or Sheilds crashes or if one of the top 3 goes out w an injury? Unless you are comfortable w that choice, I think another starter who could do long relief and be ready just in case is a higher priority than a BP arm. Probably more expensive as well.

QUOTE (chisox802 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) I agree with all of this. Cleveland is very hot, but they will cool off here eventually. It's going to come down to our head to head with the BIG 3 the later in the season. Hopefully this time we perform a little better...... I agree with all this. But the Sox are probably due for an injury to a major player or two like most teams. So they have to be able to compensate with a very limited bench. I think they desperately need to find another 4/5 SP. I don't even know who comes up if one of the 5 starters hits the DL. I guess Beck would be the 6th starter on the depth chart

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2016 -> 07:25 PM) The problem with the WC equation now is the Astros...they are on a 22-9 run right now, and have a plentiful minor league system to draw from to make more moves at the deadline. So that leaves Boston/Balt/Toronto/NYY...KC/DET/CHW...and then the Astros and Mariners fighting for two spots. It certainly doesn't feel like we have a 2/8 chance of making it right now, more like 1/2 that, maybe 12.5%. With Cleveland playing the Braves, the division lead is likely to widen even further this week. Theoretically, we should take 2/3 from the Twins, but then we've got the Astros. Royals and Cardinals play 2 and 2, home and away. I think the Sox catch the Royals next week to 10 days. They are almost as bad as the Twins playing on the road. 2nd place should be the goal for the break.

Chicago White Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays 6/26/2016

Another great job by the ACE of our staff. Nice time for Twins to come to town. We need the rest of the rotation to dominate the Twins while St L. wipes out the Royals. We need to get back to at least 2nd place by the break. Indians are disappearing over the horizon. -

Actually great job by Robin today being creative with the lineup considering this awful bench and starting 2 of his catchers. Result was both hit home runs. -

Let Albers DH and he is still available from the bullpen. Kinds like a twofa. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) There are more teams looking to add in the offseason than at midseason though. It'd be a way bigger market in the offseason. Agree but that is why I said that only a few teams may have the pieces to interest the Sox for Sale. We have really only heard Dodgers, Red Sox and possibly the Yankees. But Boston and LA may not be in the market if they acquire pitching at the deadline next month. Normally offseason gives you more options but for Sale that could go either way. Q would probably be better in offseason. Rumors today indicate Red Sox are chasing other players.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) Neither guy should or will be moved the deadline. You can get more in the offseason Not always. At the trade deadline, the competition is other teams selling staring pitching as well. In the offseason the competition is almost every teamwilling to trade pitching as well as the free agents. Fo example, it seems like the market for Sale or Q will be limited because it is going to take a lot to get either one. If Boston decides they need another staring pitcher for the pennant chase this year, they might trade off assets that would take them out of the market for another trade in the off-season.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) Just because they pitched for the same team doesn't mean they received the same run support. The offense is scoring almost 2 runs/game more for Sale than Quintana this year. Agree. But we are not talking this season, we are talking 5 seasons. It is pretty strange with such a large sampling that with two talented guys, one guy wins and the other struggles around .500.

QUOTE (captain54 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 09:21 PM) That Shuck, a hitter in the 190's, came up twice critical game situations, with no one to ph for him, is an embarrasment So did Anderson and Eaton. Eaton had a pretty good series but he was hitting .280 ish and didn't deliver either. I believe the announcers said the White Sox have won more World Series titles in the last 90 years than they swept series in Boston. 3 out of 4 on the road is a solid week. -
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 08:20 PM) There aren't a "lot of guys having underachieved". Frazier's average is way down, and Abreu is producing at a lower level than expected, but that's it. There are no surprises from the rest of the lineup, particularly those dumpster dive moves you called "surreal" in nature after they were all made in the offseason. Nothing underachieving about what we've seen from Jackson, Rollins, Avila, Navarro, or even Lawrie this season, not to mention that from holdovers Avi and Shuck. Their output is exactly in line with their performances of recent years. There was no basis coming into this season to expect anything different than what we've seen. You played the "oh, they just underachieved" card to defend and explain away the entire 2015 season. That dog is no longer hunting as we approach the midway point of the 2016 season. I would add that their core of best players have also been very healthy this season but we see so many players going down to injury that The sox can expect to lose 1 or 2 key players for some stretch.

I think Shields gives them 6 solid innings. Everyone should look out their brooms today. Wonder if Abreu will sit it out after getting plunked in the leg and such a short turn-around. Got to go and move my car. I am parked on Lansdowne St just in case Big Game doesn't have it.................

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 08:54 PM) ... why? Bradley is left handed and is a better defensive CF. Offensively they are both 20-25 HR and .280+ hitters.
