The cost for internal team performance personnel goes up now - if the only advantage you can wring out of the same sets of data is the quality of people working with it, those people can command more $ for their expertise. Same thing if they ever eventually set a max on number of analytics people per-team. Constraining supply doesn't constrain demand, it just makes the supply more expensive.

They should (because the ballpark village wouldn’t exist in the first place if not for the baseball games at the ballpark) but I’d bet they’d settle for the owners of said profit centers to stop simultaneously pulling out their pants pockets to show how empty they are.

My non-expert two cents' of opinion: Philly is in a non-desperate situation, because Crochet is a "nice to have" for them rather than a "desperately needed" - they already have four solid+ starters and Painter in the wings. Unless part of the return is Philly unloading a contract on the White Sox (for example, pitcher Taijuan Walker and his 2/yr. $36 million owed) along with multiple prospects not named Miller/Painter/Crawford, I doubt it happens.

I'm still not sure if his approach is deliberate or oblivious but I can absolutely picture that, yes. Like, the fans could pack the stadium for the potential loss #121, and as the game was in the 9th inning there would be a ton of sarcastic/cynical cheering - but I just know that on the broadcast he'd misinterpret it - "SOX! fans....on their FEET!...trying to support their TEAM! Trying to give some HOPE! They haven't given UP!" For Attitude-era wrestling fans, his delivery reminds me a lot of when Shane McMahon did color commentary on Sunday Night Heat. We're just missing some "YEAH YEAH BOOYAH YEAH!" calls. All that being said, I feel empathy for Schriffen, much in the way that I felt bad when a classmate/co-worker was nice but too earnest/peppy and gradually annoyed everyone around them.

I'll be the contrarian and speculate that Sizemore has no interest in being the full-time manager, and is just doing the club a favor by filling in for the remainder of this year.

I don't quite understand why anyone is concerned about specific parking logistics at this point, but I get the feeling when I read certain comments that people think they will somehow change/stop this project going forward if they "win" an argument here. Like, I get it - if one finds something unacceptable about the whole concept, that opinion is a completely valid opinion to hold; it's just not going to make any difference in the end. It's a site development proposal... if the money is there in the end (whether Jerry's or whomever's), the new stadium at The 78 will get built. If it's not there, it won't get built. Parking garages (which take up far less surface area than lots) will be constructed beneath/around many of the other proposed buildings in the development plot to provide a certain amount of parking. As for the rest: There will be an entire new neighborhood constructed, with housing catering to a younger demographic with disposable income. They will be within a walkable distance to the new stadium. This nearby new population can potentially 1:1 replace a present-day graying, exurban one. In other words, the club doesn't have a problem with parking - certain fans might, and they can be replaced with other fans that won't need parking at all. and of course there will be public transportation nearby, as well as potential ferry access, etc. Lots of ways to get there.

In that case, additional years of experience will help him with the nuances of coaxing out the personality of his broadcasting colleague. In any event, he will continue to improve with time.

Schriffen is an equal-parts hodgepodge of: nice person ultra-enthusiastic “homer” devoid of historical baseball knowledge, game-related context, and insight; he’s neither an ex-player nor a long-time fan It will all improve in time (several seasons’ worth at the least).

Different, of course - but that's part of what I'm saying; if we concede that Opening Day draws more people and therefore offsets lower attendance during an April timespan, it's irrelevant if that's on 4/1 or 4/16. You have to have an Opening Day; you have to have play other home games in April; attendance is lower in April; why not just try to make the weather potential better wherever possible. Kick the southern teams an extra % or two of the split, etc.

I understand that this is the perception. But in fact, 11 of the 15 stadiums with domes and/or in the warmest cities had their average attendance decrease in the second half of April 2023: Sure, their home opener would skew that first half of the month avg. higher - but that's sort of the point. Texas' notable increase in the latter half of the month is quite something, I'll concede - not sure if that has something to do with Dallas-area school schedules for Spring Break or not.

I’ve never understood this argument by those teams; just do the first two weeks (April 1-15) in the warmer cities and domed stadiums, and then April 16-30 in the others; no one misses out on summer month home games; the colder areas get two weeks to buy some time for better weather.

Regarding the size of the land vs. ballpark, something else to keep in mind is that the vast majority of the team’s office space currently crammed into the area behind the third base side of GRF can instead be off-loaded into a neighboring building in the new complex, like how the Cubs did.
