  1. re: links from the artist formerly known as Twitter; it's probably because various discussion boards don't recognize that new URL yet as something that should embed. I suspect that if you use "twitter.com" in the URL in place of "x.com" it will embed fine.
  2. Fun things you can also do when challenged to a fight on a baseball field, instead of fighting or "looking bad/weak for backing down" (not a direct quote of anyone; just summing up): look completely bored/unimpressed with the dumbass yelling at you, then slowly turn your back on him and fold your arms exaggeratedly flick away the imaginary dirt/filth from your arm/wherever the dumbass poked at you make the Razor Ramon/Scott Hall finger-waggling/ooh-I'm-scared gesture, complete with accompanying facial expression if opponent puts fists up, take one step back, go up on your toes and take a comical 19th-century bareknuckle boxing stance with hands pointed inward, draw a line in the dirt with your cleats and dare them to cross it, then draw another one Ali shuffle in circling pattern wait until opponent is being held back by multiple people, then do the pantomime "let me at him/fighting-against-restraint" gesture to indicate they're not really trying to break free
  3. My only thoughts on the fight are that Tim bizarrely squared up in a southpaw stance even though he’s righthanded.
  4. Totally understood - my comment was general in its musing, not pointed towards you.
  5. I never fail to be amused by the duality of “This player is worthless - get rid of him/we will reap the finest crop of prospects in exchange for his outstanding talent” that is sports fandom. No slight intended to anyone here; every team’s fanbase does this. It’s just funny, is all.
  6. Phillies owner John Middleton seems to share the same philosophy as Cohen:
  7. I have no dog in this fight, but of all US cities/metro areas without an MLB team, there are zero with a population greater than half of Chicago’s. (San Antonio has a city population a little over half, but its MSA is 1/4 the size)
  8. Just for additional insight, here's attendance from 1948-1957 for all three clubs (not refuting what you're saying; just thought it might be interesting to look at the trend): Giants: 1948 1,459,269 1949 1,218,446 1950 1,008,878 1951 1,059,539 (Pennant) 1952 984,940 1953 811,518 1954 1,155,067 (WS) 1955 824,112 1956 629,179 1957 653,923 Dodgers: 1948 1,398,967 1949 1,633,747 (Pennant) 1950 1,185,896 1951 1,282,628 (84 home games) 1952 1,088,704 (Pennant) 1953 1,163,419 (Pennant) 1954 1,020,531 1955 1,033,589 (WS) 1956 1,213,562 (Pennant) 1957 1,028,258 Yankees: 1948 2,373,901 1949 2,283,676 (WS) 1950 2,081,380 (WS) 1951 1,950,107 (WS) 1952 1,629,665 (WS) 1953 1,537,811 (WS) 1954 1,475,171 1955 1,490,138 (Pennant) 1956 1,491,784 (WS) 1957 1,497,134 (Pennant)
  9. This already exists; it’s just that it only began in 2019, so it’s going to take several more years to gather status/renown: https://www.mlb.com/awards/all-mlb
  10. Technically, his best was back in his Phillies debut in 2016, when he struck out 16 and threw 97 MPH: https://www.mlb.com/video/4-14-16-cg-sd-phi-c590280983
  11. Regardless of who is the official beer sponsor, there are always one or two places in the stadium to find other labels. For instance, you could get Miller Lite last season, just not at every vendor. I'm sure Revolution will be available somewhere in the stadium, just not as many offerings and with the dedicated area.
  12. I heartily recommend For All Mankind; it's a good alternate-history romp through the Space Age.
  13. Two full days - it’s 11:59 pm ET on December 1.
  14. I saw a draft wheel concept somewhere (the old Grantland site, maybe?) which put all 30 teams in a shuffled order (1, 30, 16, 9… you get the idea) which was then followed to the next number in the sequence year-by-year regardless of your record; in other words, you get the #1 pick once every 30 years, and then you pick last the next year, and then you pick 16th the next year, etc., etc. Each team gets a top 5 pick every 6 years, 2 top 10 picks every 12 years, and so on.
  15. There's a ripple effect beyond the games being played, whether it's selling tickets (difficult to do without a guarantee that there will be a season, or when it'll start), Spring Training locale gameday staffing, MLB stadium gameday staffing, marketing plans (you can't feature players in imagery without an agreement in place); etc. Uncertainty creates more uncertainty.
  16. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/tickets/postseason Refund Policy for Unplayed Games In the event that the series for which this ticket is issued concludes before the date on which the Game was scheduled to occur, a refund will automatically be posted to the payment card used for payment of the ticket. No credits will be issued and the ticket will have no cash value.
  17. As someone who has worked at a business that involved sending lots of emails to large lists of people, I would like to mention some general caveats about the sending and receiving of emails: Not every email sent out by "Company X" gets successfully delivered into a person's inbox Sometimes it gets filtered out by a user's ISP, even if earlier emails were successfully delivered Or it bounces as undeliverable, for whatever reason - if that occurs, this email address may be filtered out from receiving further emails from Company X, so that Company X doesn't get penalized for violating anti-spam laws. Or a Gmail user gets tired of seeing the emails show up in their inbox, and instead of setting up a filter/subfolder for them, hits "Report Spam" to send these emails to their Spam folder - this gets tracked as an "Unsubscribe", and the user is filtered out from receiving further emails Even if it does get successfully delivered, not everyone sees it or opens it Open rates for emails run between 10% - 60% of total emails delivered. Fewer still click on the emails once opened. In short - if you haven't received something, and you're a Season Ticket Holder, reach out to your rep.
  18. It’s always a useful thought exercise to ask oneself “how much would they have to pay me to do this job and put up with all of its b.s.?” and from there, the understanding of why no one’s interested in doing it at the offered wage.
  19. You meant...hands *on* him, surely?
  20. How about: whenever a White Sox home run is hit into The Goose Island section, the goose head begins spouting out free draft beer? Fans crowd about the goose head in anticipation when a power hitter is up, cups at the ready; holding up signs saying “GOOSE ME”, etc.
  21. Long COVID, perhaps. My wife got COVID last winter and post-recovery had a recurrence of symptoms every 10-14 days until she got vaccinated. Mercifully free of symptoms since then.
  22. They're all in good shape to advance - the voting is in a two-phase format now; the first phase ends June 24. If a player is in the top 3 (or top 9 for outfield), they advance to the final round of voting.
