  1. “a lot better” is some wild optimism. I would bet now that they lose 100 games next year too. Maybe a ten game improvement.
  2. I'm more upset about 2011. Opening day Dunn hit a home run and had a big game and my dad was pretty happy and we were looking forward to a fun season. He died the next day. I guess I'm glad he saw the high point. They were still in it late in the season. I'm not sure Ozzie didn't throw the season. I remember him pinch hitting Dunn, a guy batting like .160, in an important game against the Tigers. Everyone knew having the bat boy pinch hit would have been a better option. Dunn whiffed on three pitches. (To his credit he didn't quit and had a decent rebound season in 2012 and was even an all star.)
  3. Considering that Roberts is negative WAR with a .542 OPS one sixth of the way through the season trading him may be addition by subtraction.
  4. Of course Thome put up 12.1 WAR with the White Sox from 2006-2009 (3.5 seasons). Rowand, who was down to about 100 games in 2010-2011, put up a 8.1 WAR from 2006-2009 (six seasons). Rowand had a whopping 1.1 WAR in the two remaining seasons he played after Thome departed the White Sox.
  5. Yes high profile losses, but if the pitchers don’t allow 150 earned runs more than the prior year those losses don’t matter. They got 3.7 WAR from Rowand/Everett in 2005. They got 5.3 from Thome/Anderson/Mackowiac in 2006. The trade was a winner.
  6. That’s a funny thing considering Brian Anderson played all but 28 games in CF that year and Mackowiak probably didn’t cost them all 28 games he was as there. Thome was an all star that year. That trade didn’t hurt them.
  7. They scored 127 more runs in 2006 than in 2005. They didn’t lose because Aaron Rowand (who loved ripping the fans) was traded. Their pitching failed them.
  8. The closer had a storyline in the movie.
  9. Not disagreeing with "most important position" at all ... is there some sort of stat that actually shows this? There must be.
  10. Trust the process.
  11. I’d settle for the actor that played Carlos Pena. Could not be any worse.
  12. That bucket he’s carrying seems to be loaded with holes in the bottom.
  13. Half of the next playoff team haven’t been born yet.
  14. He does look pretty good if he really is 90.
  15. I wonder if he sits in a corner with a blanket over his lap and someone comes in and tells him “Jerry you own the White Sox” and he thinks it’s great that he employs Nellie Fox and Wilbur Wood. I have not met too many 90 year olds (there are exceptions of course) that were still with it and none that could run a business let alone a large business.
  16. I really wonder if Reinsdorf is just senile. When was the last time he spoke in public?
  17. It means it will be a disaster when they come back to earth and don’t make great swings.
  18. How bad will it be when they stop making good swing decisions?
  19. There will be no big stories no matter what the Sox do this season.
  20. That’s where I am with most sports now. I love the games, hate the money in the pro and now college. Went to a couple SuperSectional games this week and saw some great basketball and had a better time than I would watching the Big Ten Tournament or whatever pro games are on this week.
  21. Seven months till the season is over.
  22. They don’t really show up when they are good in the recent past. Add five more years of irrelevance and that will be worse.
  23. Having a story about a guy saying “Yeah … I’ll take less money to play elsewhere” is not really a positive.
