And what a creep this guy is. Taking advantage of a foreign reporter, and her leaving the profession due to the harassment she felt she would face just flat out sucks.

He's scum.

"I'm also very concerned that "a baseball source" and ESPN were aware of this criminal behavior for 3+ years. And apparently failed to report it to authorities. How many other women were treated this way by Porter in the intervening time? Lots of speculation on my part this early in the story, but this really bothers me."

Uh-oh.

I seriously don’t understand it. Who are these people? In what world is it OK to do that, or better yet...in what world has that EVER worked for a guy? “I know what I’ll do...I’ll just keep sending her texts, I know she isn’t responding, but I mean, she has to respond after text 45, right? 50? No? Alright, I’ll keep going..”

This guy has a great job, would think he’s somewhat smart to be able to move up the ranks like he has.....how can you be this big of an idiot? It’s just shocking how you would throw your career away on being so horny you can’t stop texting someone that clearly isn’t interested.

It's about power and control. These men are rich and powerful, no one can tell them no.

I'm not so sure it's about money as much as being around a culture where athletes are pretty much used to getting whatever they want...and treating women in this way, and it being excused or simply getting away with it over and over again.

Some will say it's related to the fraternity mentality prevalent at universities as well as Steve Cohen's version of Wall Street (think, The Wolf of Wall Street, Billions, The Big Short or Inside Job).

Power, definitely.   Perhaps his pride was wounded when a woman from a Central/South American or Caribbean (second or third world to most Americans) turned him down or didn't return the interest.   So entitlement belongs as one of the words in the description.

Watch the video in the ESPN article with Passan. He says ESPN was first aware of this story in 2017, but the victim only just gave them an interview recently which (presumably) gave ESPN the evidence they needed to publish the story.

So obviously ESPN can't or couldn't legally intervene and preemptively warn the Mets (knowing they were interviewing him for GM) without first-hand sourcing/proof/evidence, even if they wanted to.   It does get to be a slippery slope with media today.

This is where Cohen's hiring process is going to come under attack.  Not doing due diligence or more exhaustive background checks into family/relationships/social media.  Assuming that anyone under "Saint Theo" would be beyond reproach, etc.

Usually these types of idiots have a history of similar situations...

By the way sending dick pics to reporters is much less offensive than drunken driving.  Even though yall have been brainwashed to think otherwise, dick pic DMs don't kill people.

Where have we heard that before, twice?

Oh come on, like you haven't sent a few dick DMs here and there yourself....

I bet former Chicago sports reporter Sierra Santos alone knows what the junk of half of Soxtalk looks like.

Sierra Santos knows a lot about guys junk. Siera Santos.....that's questionable.

The reporter probably actually spells her name with 2 rs but had to change it because some porn star used the reporter's actual name as her stage name.

BTW I only know this because I used to follow the reporter on twitter.

What an idiot

Scary thought that 50% of SoxTalk would DM a local reporter with pictures like that, and actually believe that it would be an effective strategy, and never have any future consequences, lol.

And we wonder why so few women typically post on baseball message boards.

I'm sure we can work Brett Favre into this thread to get some more jokes in.

I'm not disagreeing but I think you undervalue, in today's climate, how big of a PR nightmare any sort of sexual misconduct is vs a DUI where no one was injured (regardless of the fact that someone could've been).

He gone

First of all, and will never condone such behavior, but if your going to pick a professional woman to send these too the last people on earth are reporters or anyone in the media. Just a complete idiot.

good.

Looks like porter came up short.

He deserves it, although Cohen's zero tolerance line was BS. If there was zero tolerance, how come Sandy Alderson was trying to spin it yesterday?

But for Porter, what an idiot. Has to be done in baseball. Ruin your total career on an attempt at an inappropriate relationship.

Personally I believe this is your worst guessed percentage in your entire posting history.  I think a lot higher of the majority of the people that post here

Caulfield did not make that guess. Here is the original person to blame:

I agree, but I wouldn't send a dick pick to my wife either. The only thing that can happen is bad.

I wonder what the percentage is of women who ever get one who look at it and think OMG I have to have it. I'm guessing zero.

I do think this guy saw this was a woman new to the industry, from a foreign land, and he figured he could take advantage. I doubt he would have even tried sending one to a more established writer or reporter. He's basically a predator.

Didn't some well known actor do it?  Brad Pitt??  Can't remember.

Anyway, Porter hit the Self Destruct button.  Couldn't stop.  Maybe a psych major out there can explain it.

Your first paragraph is true because of power and control. It isn't necessarily dollars, but being in a position of this importance leads these men to believe they can do whatever they want. Having money puts you in contact with others who feel the same way.

This guy is a stalker.  And yes, like drunk drivers, stalkers sometimes kill their victims. Women know this. And unlike drunk driving, which is usually somewhere between a misjudgment and a complete lack of responsibility, stalking is a methodic, considered attack against a specific victim. Don't downplay stalking.
