July 22, 20223 yr This what WhiteSoxDave said about the DM he got: "but it was from an agent at an agency that competes with Boras. I performed all my due diligence last night on him and he's legit. Long story short, he told me Conforto injured his shoulder doing something stupid at a bachelor party this offseason and that's why teams aren't lining up to acquire his services right now ." https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3411973/sounds-like-michael-conforto-hasnt-signed-because-he-allegedly-got-hurt-at-a-bachelor-party-this-winter
July 22, 20223 yr I don't know if that's legit, but when has a "hurt himself doing x" and it wasn't an actual team baseball workout ever checked out? Falling off trucks, falling up stairs, it always ends up b.s. And he did it as a free agent in line for a hundred million. And it' sa shoulder injury. I see no reason at all why sox should go after him anymore.
August 4, 20223 yr I agree with this article. https://www.soxon35th.com/taking-a-chance-on-michael-conforto-is-the-right-move-for-the-sox/

Though any deal needs to include 2023 as well, at least a team option. (Now let's take cover from the usual anti-Conforto suspects) Edited August 4, 20223 yr by ChiSox59

August 4, 20223 yr Perhaps that is why Hahn did not more aggressively pursue a trade, at the deadline. If Conforto is going to be able to play RF, as well as hit, he should be signed, whether for the duration of this season, or for both this year and next. What are the chances that he could play RF? Reports that I've seen don't suggest that he could. Edited August 4, 20223 yr by Lillian
August 4, 20223 yr I think there's a lot of uncertainty around Conforto, but he wants to get back in the game and he has a track record of success. Probably worth the risk for the Sox, especially if signed for a lower salary and he uses 2023 to rebuild his value.
August 4, 20223 yr Initial speculation was Conforto would be limited to DH duties if he comes back this season FWIW.

Yeah, something like 2 years $15M. $3M or so for balance of this season and $12M next season makes sense. Could even get cute and front load it so avoid potential luxury tax issues next season if Sox actually decide to add meaningful players this offseason. Edited August 4, 20223 yr by ChiSox59

August 4, 20223 yr I can't believe we're still talking about Comforto on this board. While we're at it, I like our chances of getting Bryce or Machado. Oh wait, no. We're going to trade for Soto. No wait. We're trading for Shohei . . . For God's sake, let it go . . . . .;
