Not a bad return at least they are clearing out all the DH type log jam.

Eder is a 2020 draftee who had TJS, so Crochet if you didn’t eff up his development.

Callis glowing reviews, you can tell he thinks it was a great Sox trade

no one wins the media-trade-rave rewards quite like the sox. too bad those never count for anything outside of rick hahn high fives.

Couldn't they have snuck Grandal into this one?

From Herald 1D ago:

Jake Eder continues to return to form With each passing start this season, left-handed pitcher Jake Eder (Miami’s No. 4 ranked prospect) is looking more like the pitcher who dominated before undergoing Tommy John surgery in August 2021. Eder’s latest outing came on Saturday, when he struck out 10 batters and allowed just two runs (one earned run) on one hit (a home run), two walks and one hit batter over 5 2/3 innings for Double A Pensacola. It was the deepest into a game Eder has pitched since returning to action in June and the 10 strikeouts are the second most in his minor-league career, behind only the 12 he had in his first-ever minor-league start on May 6, 2021. Eder utilizes a three-pitch mix: a fastball that sits between 93-96 mph and touches 98, a low-80s slider and a low-80s changeup.

Seriously on this one. Burger is a top notch dude - the exact kind of guy you want to root for.

But he's also a microcosm of what is wrong with this roster. I like the move a lot.

OTOH he was the one guy who could justify his positions with power and was not a base clogger. But yes, we need more real players and if we have pitchers who ever throw a groundball - an infield that can field it.

Eder is also the #2 prospect in the latest updated team rankings from BA (and much props to them for targeting their update BEFORE the deadline. Love that group)

Man. Drop Cease for an Orioles haul with some proximity to the majors and you can squint and maybe see a not horrible future?

Who am I kidding though, player development is still terrible in this org.

Burger should be a 2 war player in his first full season and has 5 more seasons of control. I get it for roster flexibility but seems everyone else should be gone first. Return seems light there.

I have to say I never saw the trade of Burger coming. 25 homers gone

It was either him or Eloy, man.

Not sure if this is quite as highly ranked of a return as I wanted, and it's surprising that the White Sox would turn Burger into someone with 40 man pressure, but I get the move overall.

Would also have rather moved Vaughn and slid Burger over to 1B. Burger would have been a better defensive 1B and Vaughn just looks lost.

But Burger was blocking Remillard, who can now play more 2B so there is that.

Anytime you get a chance to trade a non-elite 1B/DH for a frontline pitching prospect you do the deal.

I like Burger but if Elder develops into what he is capable of we easily win the trade. Elder may not be on a top 100 prospect list now but he will be when they redo the list. It is an easy trade to make.

One of Burger or Eloy had to go.. It's dumb to have both.

Yeah didn't see fangraphs list. MLB.com doesn't update as often people need to realize he is going to rise when they redo their lists. He is easily a top 100 prospect at this point

Wow this is big news from you. You talked about Vaughn as if he was God in the past.

I’ve always thought that Vaughn was too short to play 1B.

The 40 man has tumbleweeds blowing through it. Burger was on the 40 man anyway. Sox could absorb 5 or 6 40 man guys and not bat an eye.

Jake going to go on to have a Nellie Cruz back end of career.

Here is your BA scouting report. #2 in the Marlins system.

2. Jake Eder
LHP

Ht: 6'4" | Wt: 215 | B-T: L-L

Age: 25

BA Grade/Risk: 55/Extreme

July Update: After having Tommy John surgery in 2021, Eder has completed his rehab and is back at Double-A Pensacola.

Track Record: In 2020, Eder was ready to make his move from the bullpen to the rotation at Vanderbilt. The pandemic prevented that move, but the Marlins were convinced enough to draft him with the fourth of their five picks of the shortened draft that year. The next spring, the Marlins pushed Eder and his fellow draftee Max Meyer to Double-A Pensacola to officially begin their professional careers. Eder rewarded their faith by being one of the biggest breakout stories in the minor leagues before having Tommy John surgery in August of 2021.

Scouting Report: Before the surgery, Eder showed a dynamic two-pitch mix fronted by a one-two punch of a low-to-mid-90s fastball and slider which each project as plus. His fastball had the type of riding life at the top of the strike zone that is coveted today. Eder also showed a strong feel to lengthen and shorten the break on his slider, with the former version looking like a harder curveball. Eder’s third pitch, a low-80s changeup, had a ceiling as an average offering with further refinement. A small tweak in the way Eder removed the ball from his glove at the beginning of his delivery helped improve his command and control, which projected as plus before the operation. He is a dedicated student of the game who keeps a journal of what worked and didn’t work during each of his starts.

The Future: Eder missed the entire 2022 season but should be ready in time for spring training in 2023. If his stuff comes back intact, he has the ceiling of a midrotation starter. If he shows the same form, he’ll add an element of clarity to the Marlins’ long-term rotation picture, which is currently clouded by injuries to Eder, Meyer and righthander Sixto Sanchez, who hasn’t pitched since making his MLB debut in 2020.

Scouting Grades: Fastball: 60. Slider: 60. Changeup: 50. Control: 60

Or Vaughn with someone moving to 1B.

Eder reminds me a ton of Schultz

What about this roster gives you any concerns about 40 man spots?

Who is going to play third base in the future?
