Even if Meidroth is just an average big leaguer 6 years and 150 games of control is always better than 6 years. Not only is that one additional year of potentially playing for the White Sox but it's one additional year of control which would improve his trade value in the future. Of course it matters. A best case scenario of this kid being down in the minors giving away say even one extra win in these first dozen games so as to get an extra 150 games of control over the life of his White Sox control is worth it.

What do people think the Sox record would be if Meidroth started the season on the opening day roster? This was a no brainer move.

I doubt the Sox think it matters much either. Probably would be here with an even decent Spring. Then he hit .140. May as well wait at that point. Early MiL returns look good

That's kind of like saying "I don't want the #1 overall draft pick because my team is just going to blow it". The value of "7>6" is pretty clear I think. The team gets an additional non-guaranteed, low-paid year in exchange for, like, 10 games. Pretty unfair to players TBH, I know they've tried to correct service time manipulation, but they haven't done a great job and this is pretty blatant. Maybe the deadline needs to be much later.

Play the best players available and deal fairly with them if they prove worthy down the road,
