How often does this really matter? It mattered exactly 0% for the last "rebuild" and will probably matter the same % for this one. Regardless, this is exciting news, and should be the first call up of hopefully a few more that will give us a reason to at least tune in to the games. Most likely it won’t matter. But if he is successful another year of control 6 years from now blows away 5 or 6 games meaningless in Detroit and Cleveland .

Even if Meidroth is just an average big leaguer 6 years and 150 games of control is always better than 6 years. Not only is that one additional year of potentially playing for the White Sox but it's one additional year of control which would improve his trade value in the future. Of course it matters. I don't understand how anyone could argue against manipulating service time when you're talking about a team that is expected to be this bad. A best case scenario of this kid being down in the minors giving away say even one extra win in these first dozen games so as to get an extra 150 games of control over the life of his White Sox control is worth it. What do people think the Sox record would be if Meidroth started the season on the opening day roster? This was a no brainer move.

I doubt the Sox think it matters much either. Probably would be here with an even decent Spring. Then he hit .140. May as well wait at that point. That's kind of like saying "I don't want the #1 overall draft pick because my team is just going to blow it". The value of "7>6" is pretty clear I think. The team gets an additional non-guaranteed, low-paid year in exchange for, like, 10 games. Pretty unfair to players TBH, I know they've tried to correct service time manipulation, but they haven't done a great job and this is pretty blatant. Maybe the deadline needs to be much later. Team is fucking terrible regardless if Quero, Teel, Chase, Colson, etc is on the roster like 10 more games. They’ll have their growing pains. Maybe they wouldn’t be as bad but they wouldn’t save the season from a sub-.500 finish. Edited April 11 by Bob Sacamano
