Off topic,  but it just occured to me that Venable is very close to the word Venerable which means " accorded a great deal of respect especially because of age ,wisdom and knowledge. "  Carry on !

I swear I've not once seen anyone yet call him the Venerable Will Venable, probably because it's a bit over the top.

Because it usually goes with "old".

You're right Greg .Just when the team is starting to play a little better  led by the resurgent Robert, JR. It will hurt to trade him.

However this is what we wanted . He's hurt way too often just like Crochet was but he has so much talent that a healthy Robert who walks and steals, plays very good defense and hits bombs is also highly enticing to teams looking to make a major impact at the trade deadline.

The only winning future is to find at least 2 more productive , cheap players  you can stick on the team for 6 years like Quero or Meidroth, Teel , Braden Montgomery,   or  Noah Schultz , Hagen Smith , Grant Taylor, Shane Smith or maybe even Miguel Vargas. Maybe in 2 years the Ishbia's can resign Robert as a free agent.

I didn't think about Ishbia's pocket book , nice !!

XWOBA up to 344. 63rd percentile.

Launch Angle up 5% compared to career average as well. A lot to like about the profile right now.

That suggests his recent surge will continue.

Hopefully long enough so that we can get some good offers.

  • Quin changed the title to Robert Jr. trade value thread

There just needs to be a forum just of fans of horrible ownership.

We can talk all day about trading players while signing Cleveingers and wasting 10M on guys that can't play but you hope some lousy GM will give you something for them.

Five days after this post and Robert is already at an 93 wRC+.  The dude who cares more about being right than a White Sox player succeeding is hopefully about to eat a fuckton of crow.

Dude, you’re totally going to jinx him. Watch him go 0-10 after this post.

Unlike Alonso LOL

Or Bregman.

But that would have blocked Vargas.

50% LoL.

Actually, they have never really provided a suitable answer for who was blocking Bryce Harper, exactly...other than Boras Corp.

Nor have they legitimate solved RF 1B 2B SS or 3B (Machado vs. Moncada) since then.  Until this year (maybe maybe maybe).

Not every significant free agent signing is going to be a home run but that’s why you need to sign multiple. Adding Alonso and Santander (even for as bad as Santander has been) would move the Sox fWAR production out of their batters from second to last in mlb to just ahead of the Guardians.

– Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert finally started to hit (.346 with three homers, eight RBI and six stolen bases) this past week. If continues, the White Sox hope to have him traded by Memorial Day.

Boy that's some serious hard hitting inside stuff.  No s%*#, Bob!

i would bet that there's a 95% chance he's gone in the next 60 days

By July 3rd ? I'd give it more like 45% for various reasons.

Injury

Performance

Underwhelming offers.

Lack of offers.

Normal GM shenanigans applying pressure to Getz  by waiting . I hope they are prepared to move multiple players without Getz being overwhelmed. Robert is the priority.

2 out of 3

Better weather moving forward works in Getz's and Robert's favor.

And you can conversely count on injuries and non performance from contenders...a bunch of teams all stacked together and almost zero premium pitching available.

Alcantara worth less than Robert right now...and Luis Castillo has a pretty big contract if Seattle wants to move him for hitting.

I like it when they win some games. I get the need/desire to trade Robert, but having zero good players on the whole team will make me sad. When Robert is using his tools, he's the best all-around player on the field every night. It's a nice break from Palacios and Palacios-equivalents that comprise 90% of the rest of the team.

If JR would offer him like a 4 year 85 million extension I'd be more than open to keeping him. But you know we'll just lose him for nothing in two years anyways. That's sadly is where we are at.

Sox should pick up Leody Taveras and stick him in right for now until you trade Robert. Would much rather see him than whats his face.

Tavares is pretty uninteresting to me. Low OBP. Ks 3x more than he walks. Is he an improvement on Palacios? Yah, sure. But I don't really see the need to pay the guy $5M or whatever he is owed to be bad.

I might've went with too low a percentage for July 3rd if Harold says Nightingale said Memorial Day , which is May 26th, which seems really early to me. I've gone against Nightingale's insider info/guesses before on Robert or Crochet stuff so beating the insider is nothing new. Some time in June or July 3rd seems more realistic.   Opposing GMs are not going to make it that easy on Getz is my thinking on a lower percent for earlier trade dates. They know Roberts injury history. They know just a few weeks ago Robert was taking walks, stealing and fielding but hitting poorly. He usually starts slow and isn't much of a cold weather hitter and when you're talking about prime time night games which are usually cold in October you may not get the same guy as you get in warmer weather. So at least it's good that Robert has started to heat up even if the weather hasn't yet.

Here on Soxtalk patience was starting to crumble and the proverbial bag of balls was starting to be invoked.

So if it's Memorial Day, Father's Day or the 4th of July, Robert's impending Independence Day has to be preceded by continuing to create more 🎇🎆 fireworks .   GMs may decide to take his awakening from his 5 month, 400 AB slumber since returning from injury last June and his new found batting eye with a grain of salt until its got some hair on its chest. They are going to play hardball with Mr. Getz. You saw how it was with Crochet. Boston wouldn't part with their 1st 3 top position player prospects .

First of all, Taveras is terrible.  Regardless, the Sox aren’t claiming him for $3.9 million and I doubt he forfeits that salary to become a free agent.  No team is signing him as a free agent for that much money just for the remainder of the season.
