Not to mention the less separation there is between the players, the most chance of negotiating some savings and pushing it out to multiple picks over the draft. You obviously take "your guy", but if you can save a couple of million in the process, that is an extra 2nd round pick's worth of money. It could allow you to push a pick in the 20's down to the 2nd round, and it could still leave you enough extra money from other savings to add another HS pick at the end of the draft or after round 11. This is where I'm at. I hope Lebron and Emerson put themselves firmly into the conversation. Leverage and options are valuable.

I doubt they negotiate with anyone. They’ll try and reach a deal with Roch or they’ll just take him anyway. He’s not going back to school.
chitownsportsfan
Not even the Sox can screw this one up. If he doesn't pan out he doesn't pan out but this guy looks like the easy choice. An average to good defensive SS that hits like 270/330/450 is a 4 WAR player. Be nice to inject that into the club in a couple years and move Colson over to 3B like Machado did. Now colleges can pay more than players can make in the draft unless they are really high draft picks. With the transfer portal many can bounce around as free agents and do pretty well.
