I just think Getz does not like Gonzalez and traded him when he could.

I think this is a part of it. This was a past regime pick. Not saying that justifies it, but probably plays into it.

If pick 34th is worth something, wonder what pick 15 is worth! What a dog s%*# trade.

I absolutely hate this trade. Absolutely shitty return on value here.

Gonzo is gonna rake for the Pirates and that makes me sad.

I really don't love this. 6+ years of control of a guy who has broken out in AAA and shown flashes in MLB for a comp pick in a draft that's getting weaker by the minute thanks to NIL money everywhere seems light. But good for Gonzo. Maybe he'll get an everyday job in Pittsburgh.

Also, this all but confirms Roch is the pick at 1.01.

What if that guy isn't there at 34?

This is where overslot money comes into play. Sox are playing from a position of power. They can tell a kid and his agent to tell every other team he won’t sign because the Sox are going to pay him the most.

It’s not about the RP.

Pick 34 can be an impactful player at a position of need. I don’t hate it.

#34 pick historically

I’d egg Chris Getz’s house right now if I had his address and wasn’t in Florida

I just door dashed a flaming bag of pooh...that'll teach him.

I thought Gonzalez would be part of a package for a SP. I guess the comp pick is interesting.

This seems about normal value for a comp pick. There's always some risk when you trade a pre-arb guy. I don't think the league is all that high on Jacob, though. This may very well be a nice sell-high move. Like a lot of things, this stuff always works out if you're able to call your shots. I think Jacob looked a lot like a major leaguer but the ceiling is not super high and we all know his track record up to this season was absolutely horrible, he wasn't even viewed as a starting caliber infielder on Charlotte's squad to start the year.

Getz is going all in on the draft, now is the time with the draft position and the additional money. Roch, Thome, and ?

I’m gonna be annoyed if they take all local high school guys with their 2-5 picks

Landon Thome and Joseph Contreras incoming. 🤣

Until Griffin returns.

Then he would be competing with Nick Gonzalez at second base.

My dream of taking Bell and Burress still in play?

Trading a player who broke out and is major league ready for a pick that we hope one day is as good as the player we traded. If we traded Gonzalez, it should be toward a controllable SP and not a draft pick that won’t help us for years and will have a high chance of busting.

I would be shocked if league isn’t high on him based on the reports from Law and others

Unlikely...

The pick is around $2.9mil in slot value, gives the Sox the biggest pool in the draft again. Feels like a move best evaluated after seeing what they do with it.

It's not as straightforward as trading a 15th OA for 34 if it allows them to come away with an extra high level talent this weekend.

They must have someone in mind they needed this pick/money for.

I'm hoping it's not something petty or stupid like that. On the other hand, we are the White Sox.

I'm hoping maybe they didn't like his underlying metrics or something cause this is poor value. If u really want to move him or if you are planning to extend Murakami and hes blocked get a SP for him at the deadline rather than the pick.

I’m not worried about the “who replaces Mune” angle. Vargas plays 1B, and DH is easy to find if needed.

Clearly they are identifing a guy they want at 34 badly. Woods is 24, has very good stuff... when he controls it.

Hate that Gonzo had to be dealt though as someone who is of (half) Mexican descent. Sucks.

There are a million Jaden woods out there.

Miguel vargas wasn't an MLB quality 3rd baseman coming into the year. Guess they should trade him at his value then and not today.

What nonsense is this.

Either Getz continues to be terrible at making trades or Jacob Gonzalez was nowhere near as valuable as some people thought.

Gonzalez had no future on this team, so I'm not against trading him. But I thought it would be to help the team compete this year.
