Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan

Featured Replies

This year in 17 starts is literally his only "off" year. Hard to say he's washed yet. I'm good with this. Last year was a solid 2.3 WAR season, 11-8 with a 3.54 ERA, 162Ks and a 1.18 WHIP. Coop will fix him! Lol.

How is castillo worth anything at his full contract. Guys got negative value. Just weird. He's washed

If you took out Boston Smith, maybe the trade would make some sense. I can’t fathom how taking on a worse contract than the one we gave up required us to give up a legitimate prospect. I don’t even

Not mad at the trade but this isn’t gonna push you over the top. Gotta think they are gonna acquire another starter before the deadline

Don't like giving up Smith, but Castillo is controllable and has a good track record, even if he has been on a downward trajectory. The stuff is still really good and he's had a rough year. But they must think they can turn him around.

Seranthony just started to turn it around, but in case he doesn't, we also dump his $10 million owed next year.

I do wonder how much money we get back in cash on this.

Wow absorbing all of the contract. Willing to take on $ to give up less prospects? This is new

I don’t love including Boston but they do shed Dominguez so oh well. I get it.

Doesn’t go a lot of innings, doesn’t keep the ball on the ground…not a good trade

Joel Sherman said cash considerations were also in the deal so I’m confused

Initial reaction is I legit hate this trade. Gross as f***.

Basically Boston Smith for Castillo. The other two do not matter. I liked Boston Smith but unless Castillo's stuff has severely declined, I don't mind this.

I don’t like trading away from our pen where Dominguez looked to have restored his form and I also don’t like that it included Boston for a rental.

I’ll wait until after the deadline because this isn’t the only move and we all know this.

Not a rental

Don't love it, not sure he gives us better innings than what we had in house unless they have some kind of tweak in mind to get him back on track.

They must really value his postseason experience.

They’re taking on Dominguez’s $$$ so it defrays the cost a bit.

dump his 10 million? they just absorbed over 25 mil and potentially 50 mil

There is no way this is true

If it is true the Sox got ripped off. Take all the money for a bad pitcher and give something up.

I'm not hating it. Basically trading a somewhat fixed Seranthony, a minor league free agent, and Boston Smith. I didn't want to give up Smith, but he's a bat, not really a catcher, yet.

Castillo SUCKS this year. Don't really get it.

Trading for an all star 5 years ago is the Sox sweet spot

Boston had been a fun follow, absolutely raking on every level. Oh well.

I wonder if:

A.) They buy into the fact that the way Seattle has thrown him around really has effected him

B.) Maybe they have identified something they believe will help him return to form.

C.) Value his playoff push / playoff experience. ( I haven’t looked into his numbers for those situations yet.)

It’s a head scratcher for me at first but if this is one of two starting pitchers we add as the lesser add, we have plans to bring up McDougal, and we also get a catcher / RH bat / more help in the pen - it may make sense.

Would have rather had this be for Kirby.
