Hahahaha! Well, now that the dust has settled a little, I have to say, I'm really proud of the way this team battled back today, in the face of a complete collapse of the pitching. I feel awful for Martin, Fedde, and especially McDougal. Clunkers are going to happen to the best of them, and the promise of tomorrow awaits!

I mentioned it around the deadline, but this has kind of a 2020/2012 vibe where the pitching was extended past where their talents and abilities were, and it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of these guy

  • pitch chart of a guy who has absolute control of his fastball and would never miss way away from the zone unless he was sending a message

I go back to something Len Kasper said earlier in the season about how every season is different...you will never have this situation again. How about going for it a little bit?

They went for it a little bit, but not a lot. Like I said then, they did the minimum.

Going into the Detroit series Sox have lost 6 of 9. Tigers have won 8 of 11. The Sox are the first team they've played this month who have a winning record.

Can you imagine how evil you must think Davis is for him to say "I'm not trying to hit you" one pitch, then believe he was lying when it happens the pitch afterwards

Seeing the replay, I kind of wonder if his reaction after it helped with him seeming to go towards Stewart and then being separated out by an ump... wonder if he said something that affected it too.

He appears to be Adam Dunn only he can play pretty good defense. To be fair though he's still a young player.

Nope they are all suppose to be like Michael Jordan

This was not suppose to happen,

Yeah, but when you’re leading the division with only 6 weeks to go, do you just pack it in or do the right thing and try to win it.

Yeah I am honestly not too well-read on the latest thinking on what in the hitter's mechanics is now believed to produce bat speed. And IDK about you, but in my long-ago playing days people tended to talk about "bat speed" in a way that was more about "how long does it take for the swing to go from start to finish" which maps more closely to swing length in the parlance of the Statcast jockeys. Usually short swing = slow bat speed even though the swing itself is kind of "fast". Wouldn't surprise me if flying open could lengthen the swing and therefore produce higher peak bat velocity even if it has some other downsides. Wouldn't surprise me if it also just costs you everything. I think Miguel might be wearing down a bit which could affect everything all at once.

They kept showing that Vargas homer off Detroit. Seems like his shoulders were so much more balanced.

From Sox Machine:

*Venable said the Sox are undetermined on their starter for Friday, and that Martin will need to be evaluated for his blister.

I think Davis was trying to apologize, but nobody was going to let him engage with Stewart at that point, so he never had a chance to explain himself. I guess I can't blame Stewart for being upset regardless, having come that close to getting his block knocked off. Just very unfortunate. If there was a serious blister issue, Davis should have spoken up and maybe exited voluntarily before something like this could happen.

Fucking lame. Take the Tigers series and I’ll be happy.

All three games winnable, two losses undone by pitching

Win a game in Detroit and you are still in first place. Get swept and you're not...with the Cubs just waiting licking their chops.

It ALWAYS comes down to pitching and the last 15 years or so the Sox are usually short in that crucial area.

Cubs almost got no hit by the Nationals. Sox can beat them.

Sure anything can happen but like Detroit the Cubs are red hot right now with Milwaukee right in their sights.

Sure, but when 2 of your best hitters give you nothing, it's a lot harder to win.

They scored 8 runs. Should have won

Cubs have had two other hot streaks like this. They're a streaky team. They're probably gonna end up having another bad streak soon. Hopefully we catch them at the right time.

Realize what matters is what happens on the field but the Athletics daily baseball newsletter "the windup" projected the last six weeks of the season today.

They have Detroit winning the division, the Sox not making the playoffs and the Cubs winning theirs.

Well……

f*** that newsletter 🤣
